  1. ^^..."Would ANYONE here purchase a gpu based solely on the info that Nvidia supplies in the "compare" section? Does anyone else think they could include a tad more info?" What other info can they give you ?!: ...out of stock - out of stock - out of stock - overpriced - out of stock - overpriced and out of stock ?
  2. ...but only half the memory, and severe mining limiters (the latter for now, at least). For business, we need 16 GB VRAM min...so the 3090 has that going for it, what with 24 GB. Compared to the 10 GB 3080, 3080 Ti and its 12 GB makes little sense financially. I'm speculating, but wondering if may be the Samsung 8nm yields are thinner than anticipated, and 3080 Ti allows for offloading some product that didn't pass the 3090 test
  3. ...yeah, but I'm sure he'll find something else to bug me about. I told him though that I'm getting a 1 kw e/FatBike ...400 lbs capacity per table, x2 ! Ravens are well-fed, but don't tip the scales at an ounce more than 200 lbs ?
  4. @Bastiaan_NL ...when I picked up my car at the dealer for insurance transfer yesterday, it learned that the aforementioned $182k BMW Alpina XB7 had already sold ! ...Ravens' nest is growing, so more furniture (1 set for each of the two nest locations). Tables hold 400 lbs each
  5. ...unfortunately, that clever approach doesn't work in high-security high-rises, at least as long as there are Covid-19 restrictions ? ...had over 25 deliveries for the most recent build project (Ravens' nest); 15 or so went 'gong-show'
  6. ...it should be interesting to see what kind of supply volume of 3080 Tis hit the actual retail market, what with 'LHR' enabled on that card, and thus at least the mining crowd being redirected (though this LHR approach has yet to be truly market-tested). The other thing I look forward to see is the actual MSRP difference to the 3090 between the same-model AIBs, ie. Strix OC 3080 Ti vs Strix OC 3090.
  7. ...more like 'so many boxes, so many disruptive delivery gong-shows every day ' Anyway, the current plans (subject to change w/o notice ? ) are: Two 'system hubs' with a total of five mobos, covering off two productivity-play areas System / location 1: TT Core P8 modded, 40 inch 4K workstation monitor : Front Left = Asus CH8 Dark, 5950X, Strix 3090 OC - all w-cooled Front Right = Asus CH8 Hero wifi, 3950X, Aorus 2080 Ti - all w-cooled, Printer, etc Rear = Asus Maximus VII Formula, 4790K for Linux This thing will way a ton...the 'naked' TT Core P8 already weighs 30 lbs. However, all rads are on a separate little reinforced table w/ wheels (per above posts) System /location 2: TT Core P5 modded, 55 inch 4K IPS HDR Front = MSI X399 Creation, 2950X Threadripper, Aorus 2080 Ti - all w-cooled Back = Gigabyte Z170 SOC Force, EVGA 980 Classified, all w-cooled System 1 main support, side support
  8. ...lightning strikes do change the colour mapping, but as already suggested by UltraMega and myself, this is potentially a HDR recording issue. I turned HDR on the other day on my 3090 system, and what looked 'cool' in-game on a big 55 inch IPS HDR looked despicable in screenshots of the same scenes. ...anyway, here are some past and current (=last evening) screenies with some 'purple' tones in it which was actually 'real' given the time of day, year and the location (near where I live). Resolution is 4K ultra, HDR off. I've also got some lightning screenshots as well 'somewhere' - will have to locate those first (over 5k screenies on three machines ?)
  9. ...since the rest of the universe seems to run mostly on fusion energy since 'the beginning', it must be a pretty good solution ! ? ? ...but management of those temps on earth remains a big issue. Per below, lots of current news stories re. advances by various countries on fusion advances and 'breakthroughs', but commercial apps still seem a long way out. That said, commercial applications are only one part of the equation (ie. for large scale energy production), the other part concerns the general 'hydrogen economy', including powering our cars, trucks, trains and planes... ...contrary to what people think, hydrogen does work in regular combustion engines with only a few minor changes, but hydrogen refueling and storage remains a big problem. Thus the focus on fuel cells that use methanol which is a great and relatively clean carrier of hydrogen that also gets the much ballyhooed fuel density per cubic centimetre of hydrogen up. Other recent advances have a hydrogen-magnesium paste that looks promising.
  10. ...hard to say w/o knowing the real weather at the time and place, and also personal settings. That said, it does look a bit unusual, even in a vid with a low res of 360p - was HDR on for that ?
  11. ...a little Sunday music
  12. ...'beefy' is an understatement ? ...should be fun trying to fit that underneath a 3-slot RTX 3K GPU... Perhaps a generation from now, processing signals will be carried via light (a la fibre) rather than electrical connections
  13. ...interesting addition. I ended up getting a white Linkup PCIe 4.0 riser as TT didn't offer this yet. However, the TT PCIe 3.0 risers that came with two TT Core cases have worked flawlessly at PCIe 3.0 speed for both GPU and M.2 add-in card. ...600 mm TT PCIe 4.0 option is especially interesting for miners, folders and 'weird' custom builds ?
  14. More boxes arrived today...among other things, the DDR4 4000 CL15 (4x8 Samsung-B) kit for the CH8 Dark / 5950X; for now running it at tight sub-timings and undervolting it for IF1900 / DDR4 3800 before pushing extra speed. ''Old'' kit went back into the CH8 wifi 3950X setup... ...both will go onto the TT Core P8, the base for Ravens' Nest - and on the backside, I hope to be able to also fit a Maximus VII Formula w/ a 4790K for Linux - not sure yet though if it all will fit...weight is the biggest issue (3x w-cooling, 3x PSUs...) ...Two Raven wings...
  15. banned coz...I rather feel nostalgic about modern stuff, else...
  16. ...I'm recuperating from a total gong show week re. time tables, mangled deliveries etc...now feel great, though. And how are thou, the Master of the Hounds ? bant
  17. ...too bad about the bent pin on that Am386/33 in the pic ban bent
  18. ...my dad had a (used) BMW Alpina in Europe; and I have had Alpinas (full editions, or just ECU + related), but yeah, the referenced XB7 is a different beast and has a price tag of C$ 182,000 - no thanks. You can't use all that power anyway in a big metro area...plus I'm genuinely happy with my current ride. ...a few years back before the previous lease expired, one of the sales folks tried s.th. similar with me - they had just gotten an X5 M Competition (~575 HP?) in and he insisted that we go for a quick jaunt, with him driving...so he puts it into launch mode while waiting at a red light, which revved the engine up while holding it with the brakes, and opened the valves in the exhaust. Just before he launched, I tipped him on the shoulder and pointed to the cop car in the next lane on my side...? launch aborted
  19. ^^...still an idyllic place to have a lunch, by the looks of it...may be you should just get one of those VW 'Westfalia' camping conversions done, the ones with a little kitchenette and the extendable camping 'roof' for a quick post-lunch nap. ...yeah, after driving to the Purolator depot by the airport this morning, I finally have all the parts in for the 'Raven's Nest 2.0' per below...no rush to finalize it though, working on the best combo of permutations and combinations for all work, play machines ('domino effect' triggered by the Raven's Nest) ...lunch was 'on the run'...stopped by a delicatessen for Tuna salad, Parmesan crisps and a chocolate milk ?
  20. ...my, my --- look what the cat the doggos dragged in banneritis
  21. ...hehe - that's because that pic was from when it was brand new on the showroom floor.(see also spoiler) ..but it will look just like it when they're finished with it as it is in superb shape. Apart from cleaning, they're doing a handover inspection plus new brake pads, so we're tooling around in an X1 courtesy car for the weekend...M package and all - peppy, but a bit small... fyi...at the exact spot where our X5 was in the showroom back then now sits a BMW Alpina XB7 (black on black on black)...menacing-looking 3-ton beast w/ 620hp...dealer kept on 'casually walking over to it' during our negotiations for the lease buy-out ...
