...as posted before, I have been steadily moving away from 'traditional cases' over the last few years with new builds, unless they are a full-on server etc. With CPUs and GPUs adding boost algorithms with temps as one major parameter and employing 16c/32t CPUs and 500W GPUs, heat management is thus paramount, and using 480x64 rads (among others) limits case choices anyhow. ...on the TR project, I used a TT Core P5 and added 5x 360x60 XSPC RX360 rads along with 4x D5 pumps, but with Project Raven, I decided on a more unusual approach...not least as I also wanted this system to be able to be easily moved (wheels)... ...starting with a smaller but fully height adjustable 'lap-top desk'... ...and reinforcing it with an 'extra leg' and other bracing to carry a lot of weight, I decided on locating all the rads, tubes and wiring for 24 fans plus 3 fan hubs on the underside... ...while the 'top' part gets a sub-frame (modded older 'test-bench') to correctly align all the components to each other...here an early 'lay-out' test...

...yeah, RGB seems to be here to stay ? . Some Ripjaws have the same chips but come w/o RGB, but since I already got these...These RAM kits will hit 4133 on stock 1.35V voltage and timings on Intel Skylake, but I'm quite happy with the Zen3 5950X doing FCLK 1900/DDR4 3800 on tight timings - seems like the best balance between between bandwidth and latency. The Raven project is also not a pure bencher/gamer but will also be drafted for some productivity tasks as well. ...as to general RGB overload, at least I got rid off the standard air RGB / Strix 3090 OC 'display' now...

...yeah, as stated the RGB memory is really the only 'non-team player' re. disconnect options...however, of the four (binned-by-a-mobo-vendor) DDR4 3866 Samsung-B kits I had for quite some time, three are RGB, and I don't think I want to buy any more DDR4 at this stage, with DDR5 lurking and otherwise having enough Sammy-B DDR4. May be I just slap a RAM cooler on it (even though RAM temps are in the low-to-mid 30s C) ?

...I am running into the typical-for-times new-build issue with the Project Raven, and that is the 'included' RGB on mobo, RAM and GPU block. While I can turn most of it off and/or disconnect it, the TridentZ RGB is not a team player with that. There is if course RGB control software included, but I'm old-school and like to have as few low-level apps running as possible (apart from security concerns with those) though some Bios settings can help...I actually don't mind some RGB, as long as it is all static 'electric blue' or purple, but don't want my systems to look like the Vegas strip at night... ? ...also ran into that with one of the other AMD 16c/32t (TR 2950X) projects designed to exploit 'black, white and grey' - until I turn it on ?

...TT Core P5 'case' doesn't really have a back as such (but a hollow cavity for wires, fan hubs etc)

I remember when I got my first company car; as I would walk up to it in the underground garage, I was certain my personal car (a C4 Corvette) I had rebuilt myself years earlier and which was parked across was either sobbing or giving me the evil eye ("traitor"). ...I use a total of five systems in my home-office (more like central office during Covid-19; includes dev servers and workstation) so the 3950X wouldn't go to waste, but some of the other existing systems would be bumped in a game of musical chairs, and I don't much feel like plucking that setup apart and re-configuring OS etc right now. Also, they might give me the evil eye whispering 'traitor' ?...

GPUs are all full-block w-cooled - still, 700W+ (the most you seem to get from the 1KW Bios) is a lot of heat concentrated on one PCB with a center of 8nm

The InWins I have are about 8 or so years old and have semi-transparent wings & body, along with 4 blue LEDs. They are totally quiet and good performers, ie. as rad fans. They are however only 'Molex'. Strong cooing performance without the noise is important to me as well these days - which is why I like the Arctic P12s...great performers w/o the noise.

All three AMD 16c/32t systems ended up being powered by the same model of PSU. Being in the software / SaaS related field and running our own hardware, my PSU preference for power systems trends in the direction of 'quality and plenty of headroom'...apart from a handful of premium 850 Corsairs, everything else in terms of workstations and fun machines has 1200W or more...some of the machines I describe here pull more than 1150 W (ie. with dual RTX graphics cards, which can be 'pigs on gas watts'). ...for Project Raven, I ended up settling on another Antec HPC Platinum 1300 W PSU...highly rated, very low ripple and if one really wants to go nuts (like I used to at HWBot), two of them can be linked together via their proprietary OC Link for a max of 2600 W. Innards are by Delta Electronics, another plus... Speaking of quality, the heavy-gauge PCIe connectors of this PSU are another advantage (if hard to route and get into place). The Strix 3090 OC - on stock V_Bios no less - can easily slurp down beyond 500 W...there's also a custom 1000 W vBios I haven't tried yet

Good choices (as would be the Noctua Redux). BTW, what colour option is your Lian Li O11 Dynamic ? Also, just don't develop a case of fanritis... ...this is just a fraction, pulled out of workstation and servers...black and white pic to hide the dirt in the top pic...those were lined up for cleaning after several years of faithful workstation service. The pile on the right in the top pic are 9x GentleTyphoon 3k rpm, center stag is made up of the Sunon 120mm 5k rpm server fans; some Noctuas below those and InWins to the left. Bottom one has a few BeQuiet Silent Wing 2s, a 140mm Corsair and a couple of 200mm Corsairs...only ever lost one main-stream 120m or bigger fan, and that was a 120mm Noctua NF12- a screwdriver rolled off the top of an open server frame and hit a blade of the spinning Noctua which came flying off...my mistake ?

The P12 (120mm) pwm max around 1,800 - 1900 RPM, the smaller P8 /rev2 (80mm) can hit 3,000 rpm.

...'Some say' that I've gone Arctic P12-pwm-mad (spoiler), but I tried a few out on some HEDT systems and they work fantastically well - so I bought some more ? . Couple of quick points: I use them in push/pull on thick, high-fpi-count rads, which are also rubber-mounted (as are the fans) AND there's electrical tape covering the gap between the fan bodies and the rad bodies (that does make a small difference on both sound and temps). ...the Arctic P12s are among the best-performing fans I've used re. both temps and sound (or lack thereof). I am going to change over other systems that currently have GentleTyphoon / 3k rpm and Sunon / 5k rpm fans..AND Corsair ML120s which get annoyingly loud at high rpm, louder than the GentleTyphoons for example. On my current build that has the Arctic P12 pwm, all I hear the distant whoosh of the actual air rushing through the rads..exception being some accompanying Arctic P8 (rev2) which are 3K rpm fans - but for that, again very quiet compared to other 3k rpm fans ...the Noctua NF-P12 Redux you mentioned are a great choice as well, but pri$ey. If you have the space, getting Arctic P12 pwm pst for push/pull would be a great option as that also increases your options re. rpm ranges. ..the only real disadvantage of the Arctic P12 pwm pst is that their pwm cables are a bit too short, though the value-pack versions - unlike the single purchase ones - include both a male and female connectors

...didn't he already do that ? ? Somewhat related, many moons ago we had some Radeon 7990s ('dual 7970s') at work, and they could be re-flashed to the twice-as-expensive workstation counterpart card and unlock all the features with the pro-drivers -
Thanks guys ! ? The aforementioned 3950X sits in a regular Asus Crosshair VIII Hero 'wi-fi', and it is a great, fast combo as you will see later on. But Project Raven's 5960X and the 'Dark' version of that very same board have a few important differences...90 amp power stages among them, but the real kicker is being able to optimize and max multi-core and single-core performance simultaneously...having your cake and eating it too ?. DerBauer's timestamped vid below explains this special mobo feature... It's just going to be very messy integrating these three into the existing home-office combo (which these days carries a lot of extra working-and-serving from home functionality). I probably end up retiring a few of my fav but older Intel-E WS workstation setups.
