  1. ...18 GB smartphone LPDDR5 is nice...but where is my 128 GB DDR5 Samsung B-die ? ! ?
  2. ^^banned coz...sunglasses to confuse AI facial recognition
  3. There's an e-waste place nearby...actually went there last week to locate some 120mm / regular thickness fans screws for a rad...I really should go and dig deep in the bowls of a storage area downstairs here in a room full of old stuff, a 486/66 plus mobo along with a Cyrix 100 upgrade I 'inherited/confiscated' as a young lad from older siblings...also a Pentium 200 MMX and more CPUs, and big ol' CRT monitors. 'My first real oc setup' is this one below, yeah Abit IC7x power - still works, even found the memory for it...
  4. ...not sure what Apple means by continuing x86 support "for a while"...hopefully, their need to control everything and lock everything else out won't get the better of them in regard to this. I would love to run MacOS on some of our hardware; instead I am increasingly dabbling with Linux distros as Win 10 is getting really annoying with its product pushes on my desktop, constant attempts at interleaving with their cloud, big data vacuuming... Also...to be marked under 'rumours', with plenty of salt shaking... - fact though is that Apple has been taking big early positions with new nodes at TSMC (incl. now 5nm) and is also working tightly with TSMC on new display tech.
  5. banned coz they ain't dead, they're just phase shifting through alternate realities
  6. ...'moi' ? Thank you but, no...that 2950X is a work-play hybrid I haven't modified for two years because of its productivity role, not least as it has a complex watercooling system that also involves copper hard lines in part of the loop. However, I would be glad to consider the ProSiphon Elite for a future HEDT build project
  7. ...exactly, per above. And what is worse for the Hackintosh crowd is that with M1, there won't be any easy alternate routes like there were with Intel (max) 28c/56t
  8. Very good point, though you can throttle a 2950X to low speeds and corresponding voltage if you like, at least in my mobo's bios and to a certain minimum level (don't know what that minimum level is though, as I usually overclock, not underclock ? ). Also, my 2950X is on a dedicated CPU loop with a Heatkiller IV Pro TR and 2x 360x55 rads with GTs, and dual D5s. Cinebench loops etc usually are in the 60s C (may be low 70s C in mid-summer).
  9. ...that doesn't sound like a bad idea, especially considering the location of the break...but you may want to check w/ Alphacool as to whether that's going to wipe out the option of getting a replacement...and get their answer via email / in writing...
  10. ...pressing F ! If it makes you feel any better, I had a bunch of orders via Amazon and also a specialist US retailer for a dual-loop w-cooling build over the last 10 days. Some of it arrived on time, some of it apparently did but the security 'buzz code' wasn't passed on even though they have it...so lots of running around. ...but one item (a Phanteks CPU w-block) stands out. Ordered from Amazon with a nice delivery date and online tracking, it was supposed to arrive last Friday by 10 pm...it kept on saying that until 10.01 pm (after wasting the whole day to catch the delivery), then switched to 'could arrive between March 9 and March 17, or might request cancellation'...upon further customer service contact, it turns out that it is either lost or stolen in transit ? after leaving their station in Kent, Washington (where it had arrived 30 min earlier)... ...they promised to rush a replacement order here by this Wednesday, we'll see...
  11. ...not sure it makes a difference w/ GPU folding, but on my MSI / 2950X setup, there's an option in the Bios for 'Creator' vs 'Game' - it changes UMA to NUMA...NUMA still potentially uses most cores and threads (unless to make other changes on that per above posts), but w/ 2950X, it focuses more and first on a given CCX and its memory access and it can lower latencies and increases RAM throughput. It helps with certain GPU applications (though not all)...NUMA is worth about 400 - 500 points in 3DM Port Royal w/ dual 2080 Ti setup Addition / edit: another way UMA / NUMA can be toggled is via Bios / CPU features / Cinebench (UMA) vs AIDA (NUMA). Ryzen Master also has options for that, but I prefer to do it in Bios. BTW, with my 3950X, Game vs Creator setting are different in that they simply choose between one or two chiplets...
  12. "Apple has confirmed that the iMac Pro will be discontinued when supplies run out. According to the company, the 27-inch iMac is the preferred option for most professional iMac customers and those who need more power can jump to Apple’s high-end Mac Pro. All of these systems are expected to be upgraded to Arm-based silicon in the near future however. Apple has quietly added a “while supplies last” label to the iMac Pro product page, and also disabled upgrade options for the computer. MacRumors reached out to Apple, who confirmed that when iMac Pro supplies run out, the computer will indeed be no more" source ...until new M1 versions at least, there goes your chance for a really expensive... (insert: cheese grader...monitor stand...) Personally, I liked the design, though I rather build my own Hackintosh version...future M1 versions are going to button that down even more though...
  13. ...today was a really weird weather day around here...heavy rains and snow, and sunshine - the whole kitten caboodle...flew over to Harrison Lake and an adjoining ski area just east of here, the cloud formations below are real the weather per FS2020 satellite feeds ?
  14. ...you're welcome ? ...FYI, it is also a good idea to measure out the exact available space in your case re. max mounted rad thickness (with push and/or push-pull fans). I found that case manuals aren't always accurate. So far, I'm amazed at the build-quality of the all-copper core TT Pacific CL480s (the CL360 is the same, only shorter) but I reserve final judgement until I've actually used this new (to me) type of rad. But take a look at the shot below - on the left is the rad of a Corsair H150i AIO (360mm), on the right is the big CL480...obviously it's not just the length that counts, but also thickness. Of course having a thick rad, especially with dense fpi, also means appropriate fans.
  15. ...finished refurbishing two Hardwarelabs BlackIce GTX gen2 xtreme 160s...they had a hard 'life' before ? ...back when I did sub-zero, they never ran with fans but were submerged in a tank of water ice cubes mixed with DICE 'dancing' on top of the rads...dented some fins and took most of the paint of. Thus I can confirm that Hardwarelabs, at least on these models, didn't skimp as the whole thing (including outer shell) is made of brass ? ...a new can of black satin Rustoleum (applied mostly to the outside shell) - and voilà, they look a lot better now for an upcoming dual loop build where each gets push/pull Arctic P series fans, and each will be paired with a new TT Cl 480s.
  16. ...www.extremerigs.net was always a trusted site for good cooling info, but the site has not been updated for several years now - and the table above is actually from a review from February 2015...at over six years old, it is missing some new entries as well as updates of existing 360 rad products. > Here is their original test story that includes the above graph. @Sir Beregond ...this test > here from TechPowerup is a bit more up-to-date (about 1 yr 3mth old)...key is to note how results change with fan speed (and by extension fan type, and even type of pump / speed)...so when you're asking what are the top 360 rads, you also have to think about what type of fan and what rpm (> noise) you are going to match the rads with. It also relates to fin density (fpi) of the rad. As to fans, I have several Hi-Po fans, ranging from GentleTyphoon 3k rpm to Sunon 5k rpm (and faster, they are server fans along the lines of Delta). That said, after testing a few for a while, these days I prefer the Arctic P12s pwm pst (especially in 5-fan value pack). I mount them in push-pull - and at around their max rpm, they are still 'fairly quiet' and cool really well. Hard to beat price-performance wise...
  17. While it pays to have a healthy sense of doubt with all kinds of rumours flying about on the net that are unsubstantiated, RBC Capital analysts are usually well placed and also careful per their legal department...I would tend to trust those far more than the average self-appointed experts that populate social media. This particular comment by RBC Capital came out after NVidia's official earnings call. It is also a question of GA102 / Samsung yields vs final products in open market channels. Be that as it may, NVidia is a very aggressive company (see the Hardware Unboxed mess) and its planned purchase of ARM faces huge resistance from various sides, including apparently re. some early reads of regulators. Nvidia certainly wants to appear in the best possible light with multi-billion dollar deal regulatory reviews going on and facing stiff opposition. That's why I added that to my post above re. 3080 Ti mining 'blockers' and playing nice. Be that as it may, you have unprecedented demand facing fairly tight supply with top-end Ampere, and that opens the door to all kinds of profit-taking side deals. There are plenty of rumours (and marked as such) that GPU vendors have trucks pulling up outside their factory's loading dock in China, with cards never making it to the regular sales channels but instead go straight to mining farms. Another confirmed Ampere supply issue are secondary sales channels by vendors. An example (note confirmation by MSI itself):
  18. ...well, may be NVidia got the message re. the US Administration Review on tech shortages (CPU and GPU loom big in there). Of course, it's attempted purchase ? of ARM might also mean that it wants to be seen to play nice and 'help'...then again, not so long ago, there was this:
  19. ...I love the XSPC RX 360s (have 7 of them in total, since 2013+). Great quality (copper and brass core), quite 'thick' at 55m core depth, and the 13 fpi give you a fairly wide range of options for fans. When in doubt, those are the 360s I always choose. They have taken a fair bit of abuse over the years w/o a single problem. ...just yesterday, 2x TT Pacific CL480s arrived for a new build - they have an all-copper core and are obviously longer, and also even deeper at 64 mm. There's also a CL 360 version, but I have yet to try any of the CLs in real life. ...Finally, I also use Hardware Labs' BlackIce Nemesis 160 GTX for years...if the 360 version of those is as good, can't go wrong with those either ...or just order up a Watercool MoRa 360 (or 420 ? ) ?
  20. ...yeah, it was a Pink Floyd kind of day...even listened to 'Learning to Fly' (one of my all-time favs) before doing an hour plus with FS2020 ?
  21. ...far less than US $2k, and paid for by business as it is also used for productivity
  22. ...I stumbled across it by accident (good MSRP & no tariff up here) when I went to the store to save some money on fans via Arctic P12 pwm pst value packs... ...right time, right place...the Strix 3090 OC was on my shortlist since last fall, but I didn't register anywhere, and wasn't going to pay scalper prices
  23. ...Starship Enterprise ? needs better water-cooling, no ? ...speaking of cooling, missing just a few parts for the next dual-loop build:
