  1. Makes sense, there is usually an event of some sort that makes Windows get a little screwy, I doubt it was to do with a modded BIOS, I only say that as I have never personally seen it, I have however seen Windows updates cause profile issues along with machine ID's changing which can create a nightmare for licensing activation with some programmes.
  2. Welcome to EHW. Personally I have always chosen whichever CPU offers the best performance vs price. Whether Intel or AMD make little difference to me. I have however been a Ryzen fan for a while as they have been year on year excellent CPU's for the money over Intels offerings. That of course may change. The 9000 series I find hard to have a definitive decision on. It was such a rocky launch and poorly prepared for regarding software which really gimped the CPU's. My first thoughts were that the 9000 series were lackluster and offered little gain generationally but like many media outlets, I think our opinions may have to revised once the dust has settled so everyone can take a second look at the 9000 series. Jury is still out on this one. I think AMD should try and keep their pricing as competitive as possible and I'm hoping their lead over Intel does not make their heads too big whereby innovation stalls and prices continue to rise, as that is how Intel was caught with their pants down not all that long ago. I am looking forward to the 9000 X3D variants to see how they compare to the 7000 X3D chips. I am not expecting anything that makes me want to upgrade, but hey I could be wrong.
  3. Definitely a cheap and low maintenance way of having a pet!
  4. Sounds like a damaged user profile to me. This is fairly common if something has damaged the profile, they are a pain to repair and it is generally easier and quicker to create a new user profile.
  5. With the advent of quick info consumption through the likes of YouTube, this is not surprising. There is still a place for written content, in-depth or otherwise. However in the ever quickening pace of the world and the need for instant information and gratification, people have less "want" to read through articles these days. I think it is a real shame.
  6. Im going to bow out of this one as I don't understand what you are trying to achieve.
  7. Not really sure to be honest. I am still not sure what error you are getting when you are trying to submit the registry key.
  8. Fair point, I did actually opt out of insider previews for stability reasons. Guess I will have to wait.
  9. Worth noting that your text is black on the Dark Theme, making it hard to read. This usually happens if you copy and paste any existing formatting.
  10. I guess I will have to locate so pre update benchmarks and see what the uplift is (if any) for the 7950X3D.
  11. Nice, The Callisto protocol caught my eye when first released.
  12. It is likely due to a recent dev change un-related to Rig Creator. Will disable for now, thanks for letting me know. P.s, the new Rig Creator is not installed, so you cannot put prices in yet.
  13. For the money, the Rog Ally X still win for me if I were splashing cash on a handheld. The battery in the Zone is not all that fantastic either.
  14. Which drive did you defrag? If mechanical fine, if SSD you should avoid doing that as data management is different on an SSD and defraging an SSD causes additional writes to the drive, leading to a shorter lifespan. It is however possible that initiating the defrag on the SSD ran a TRIM operation. TRIM is what you want to run on an SSD and TRIM by default should be carried out by the OS. However there are ways to force it manually.
  15. Correct, the damage has been done and that is hard to recover from for this generation BUT if media outlets can show it's fixable through software corrections, AMD can claw something back. I agree, if AMD's guys used such an old codebase....well dummies lol
  16. You state when you first installed the OS you were getting transfer speeds of 140mb/s. Is this still the case with other file transfers ? It is important to discover if all file transfers are affected first as it could indicate a change has happened to the OS since fresh installation such as drivers or a Windows Update.
  17. It is possible some performance can be clawed back once AMD gets it together with their software and works with Microsoft on OS to CPU behaviour. I think it will be worth media outlets rechecking benchmarks once the dust settles.
