The *unofficial* What is your favorite mouse club
LabRat replied to speed_demon's topic in Keyboard/Mice
Are you, me?! (aside from committing the sin, of gaming w/ a Wireless Mouse ) Me: Right Handed - 'hybrid' claw-palm grip - (MU0053) G MX518 Legend, currently - OG MX518 is my absolute timeless favorite. I still have mine and my Dad's worn-out OG MX518s 'kicking around'. IIRC, I have replacement microswitches for them too. The Logi G MX518 Legend (the new one) is an acceptable substitute but, I can't help but feel like there was something 'lower latency' and more accurate about the oldskool MX518. In a (gaming) mouse, one needs simplicity, responsiveness, and accuracy. TBQH, I'm really quite irritated at all the 'tech' they cram in mice. Especially for gaming, Mice should be amongst the simplest imaging devices in Sol. I've not been able to find any mouse (since the OG MX518) that allows *me* 'pixel precision'. The closest I've gotten was bottoming out Windows' mouse sens. + in-game mouse sens., and running (basically) max DPI on the MX518 Legend. Even then, I swear I'm getting intermittent 'tracking errors'. Yes, I clean the sensor's lens/hole out w/ a Q-tip fairly regularly. I honestly suspect EMI* and/or USBhost issues. (like, being plugged into the 'wrong' USB port, and not realizing it.) *Where I live, any length of unshielded wire (in open air, connected to something or not), picks up 3-15+VAC, dependent on length and orientation. Sadly, I don't have an osscope to 'see' the waveform. I do have 1st-hand experience w/ what (super)imposed waveform (and voltage) can do to HIDs on a PC: My Dad's HDTV-Monitor's PSU failed, and sent half-rectified(?) mains current (60VAC measured, using old HP RMS DMM) into his PC's chassis. Amazingly, it didn't kill anything. However, 'odd behavior' and lots of HID input errors were occurring before the TV was *clearly* showing signs of failure. (Ended up replacing his HDTV-Monitor w/ a newer Samsung, ordered PSU for TV off fleabay, removed back cover off TV, replaced PSU module, and that 6+yearold 50" Changhong 1080p, continues to serves as my secondary display, today) -
From a Techie/Consumer PoV, this is cool as heck. (and something people far older than I, have been expecting for YEARS) Awesome. I wonder if Mint Mobile customers will get any love? Also, am curious as to how they've facilitated this (technically). Like, does it just use one of the longer-wave bands (like 600mhz?) or, do those mentioned devices have inactive features in their modems for sat.comms? Edit: Thanks @pioneerisloud. You read the article closer than I did

Other than the pressurized radiator, this seems like it has the potential to be very affordable. (HFC-245a [assumed] is more expensive than some other refrigerants, but still minor in BOM) -From what I can see, everything on this demo unit (except the cold plate) was off-the-shelf. 'Kinda surprised I haven't seen more of these kinds of coolers; this cooler seems like something an HVAC tech would throw together in their spare time. Thanks to BoggledBeagle @TPU, we have some more information. Wieland already makes and sells Thermosiphons: Thermosyphons - Wieland MicroCool WWW.MICROCOOLING.COM Thermosyphons - MicroCool brings decades of experience both engineering and manufacturing enhanced boiling surfaces. Brazed Construction. The 'new' cooler in question, looks like a direct development off of those. It appears that both the Industrial and Consumer 'attractiveness' comes from how quiet and reliable it can be. -is not all that impressive (if comparing to a high-performance AIO/custom loop). However, there's lots of non-OCers that buy AIOs for their low-noise. These Wieland thermosiphons would be even quieter, while allowing heat to immediately be put outside a chassis/enclosure. (with reliability approaching a heatpipe aircooler) HFC-245fa Refrigerant/Propellant is commonly used in closed-cell spray foam insulation. -and, is a replacement for Ozone-depleting Refrigerants/Propellants, previously used. It's apparently 'safe enough' to be in existing consumer-available products and medical use. Leaks (mishandling, age, abuse) from the Wieland Thermosyphon should not maim/kill from a single exposure, or extended extremely low-level exposure. (The main health-safety concern with HFC-245fa is simple asphyxiation; very unlikely to occur w/ such a small volume involved.) https://hkw1615e5-pic43.websiteonline.cn/upload/HFC-245faMSDS.pdf 1,1,1,3,3-Pentafluoropropane | C3H3F5 | CID 68030 - PubChem PUBCHEM.NCBI.NLM.NIH.GOV 1,1,1,3,3-Pentafluoropropane | C3H3F5 | CID 68030 - structure, chemical names, physical and chemical properties, classification, patents, literature, biological activities, safety/hazards/toxicity information...

Best Graphics Card Repair Business in the United States?
LabRat replied to HeyItsChris's topic in AMD
Oh. I See. Nice. Are those are connected to the Card's header? If so, do you have only the Gnds, +12Vs, and PWMcontrol leades of each respective fan "bonded". (You'll want to leave the RPMsense disconnected from all but 1 fan. Otherwise, the 2-pulse RPM 'read' will see MANY pulses) -
This bit of 'news' is what sold me on one*, oddly. The OoB OC'd models (Nitro+, GB GamingOC, etc) already help to close the gap w/ the 7900XT. Being able to OC it further, was extremely attractive. *That, and me accidentally manipulating @pioneerisloud into 'enabling' my own irresponsibility... (He didn't even know the card existed, until I linked him to it a few days ago. Then, last night I got goaded into it. )

I was 'sold' on "Pokemans w/ Guns and animal husbandry". However, what I saw in gameplay, was ARK: Survival Evolved w/ Pokemans (instead of Dinosaurs) Since Studio Wildcard unironically gave me Gamer-PTSD* over any game w/ similar style/gameplay, it's easy-peasy for me to ignore PalWorld. *(short)story time: Several Years Ago, GF + myself + roomie had absorbed ourselves into ARK. -Home-hosted server, 'bases' across our map, etc. Then, Studio Wildcard 'updated' the game, and broke everything on our little server. -Bases floating in the air, animals scatted across the world, and making memory leaks, you name it We tried to play-through it, but it got more-and-more-and-more cursed as we played. 'Bout that time Wildcard renege'd on promised DX12 support, actively covered-up the fact they ever promised it, and never bothered to improve AMD performance. Furthermore, after being dis-enthused/dis-enchanted, I'd stumbled into their ownership and investments, and just felt used. In *this industry* that openly 'remixes' game-components, and 'reuses' marketing strategies I genuinely think it's fair to apply the failings and wrong-doings of a predecessor, towards/upon 'remixed' successors. In other words: If your GameY is *clearly* trying to be like GameX, don't be surprised when people that were burned by GameX, "apply" their feelings towards your GameY.

On HBM-equipped and MCM GPU designs, I believe "The Interposer" is the pedantically-correct answer. Yeah. I was surprised too. It gives me hope for the MI25 I neglected and let get 'tossed around' nekkid (now artificing). [TBF, I was sanding cupronickel, copper, and silver nearby it, and using it as a test-fitting model. It's likely more perma-damaged than OP's Soap-washed card.] -
HWunboxed? They've... gone downhill. At least, they did correct the record, to a degree. W1zzard (@ TPU) is, and will continue to be my #1 trusted reviewer, for the foreseeable future. (Opportunity for eHW? ) NtM, it's pretty easy to get direct answers from him (if there's any peculiarities in a given review.)

the 7900GRE seems to tackle anything up to 1440p, and non-RT up to 4k. However, that's only for now. TPU reviews: Sapphire RX 7900 GRE Nitro+ Review WWW.TECHPOWERUP.COM Sapphire's RX 7900 GRE flagship card, the Nitro+, impresses with its superb cooler featuring ARGB illumination and unparalleled quietness, topping tests conducted today. Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pulse Review WWW.TECHPOWERUP.COM The Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pulse emerges as the best GRE model released today, offering exceptional value at AMD's MSRP of $550. Outperforming the RX 4070 Super in raster, it... Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 GRE Pure Review WWW.TECHPOWERUP.COM The Sapphire RX 7900 GRE Pure sports a white color theme, factory overclock, and remarkably quiet cooler, all offered at a reasonable price of $570—just $20 above the AMD MSRP... If you're forward-looking @ 4K + VR, I can't blame ya for finding the 4090 the only option. TBQH, I'm hopeful that Navi 4x will deliver on the promises of a mid-tier 7900XTX perf.-equiv, with much-improved RT. If that's the case, you may not have to pay out $1-3k for the performance you're looking for.

wccftech Unreal Engine 5.3 Dune Desert Landscape Looks Incredible in New 4K Video

Looks like $3.99 if you want to run the demo yourself https://whammes.artstation.com/store/3pADL/mw-dune-desert-landscape-runtime-demo I might consider grabbing it, as a pre-release test for the couple upcoming UE 5 games I'm looking forward to. -

"Enable ZeroRPM" should probably be off. I've had issues with that on my Vega(s) (the 6500 XT is fine being left as-is, for w/e reason) Also, the acoustic limit, I typ. set to 0, to disable. %s aren't reliable, and RPM-sense can be errant* Found this out myself, and even my 'stock cooling' Vega 64 never can go to "100%" due to age/tolerances of the blower. I'm also not 100% sure as to the construction and circuitry for the fan controller. It's not impossible that it's damaged. *-RPM sense and PWM control are both flavors of 5V TTL (IIRC).*So, disruptions or errant/reflected signals/feedback can make things go wonky. edit: maybe do another through cleaning w/ toothbrush and alcohol in/around the fan header, and any ICs+board components connected to it? A high-resistance short somewhere could be 'knocking' the fan controller into a safe mode of sorts. ex. the SanAce80 contra-rotating server blower I have on my MI25/WX 9100, reports absolutely unreal and wild RPMs. I'm about 99% sure it's some kind of 'crosstalk' with co-located PWM control signal, or EMI-issue from the 2x 2.25A motors. (Not impossible the fan is reporting RPM by a different standard, too) Worst Case Scenario: You can re-wire or adapt the blower to be mobo-controlled. IIRC, You only need the PWM line ran to a fan header. Though, separately powering the blower will give a teensy bit of TBP headroom. (IIRC, the Vega stock blowers can draw like 25-50+W at peak) -
I need a new 'mousepad'; accidentally melted my steelseries hardpad (that sits atop a piece of 23/32 plywood) w/ acetone. I'd like to purchase one of EHW's mousemats but, I think it's inappropriate for my folding-table desk I'm using @TM. I need something with some rigidity and 'solid-ness' to it itself (to stay flat). Any recommendations or DIY experiences to share? 'Found this lil article about using OilPaint and/or Polyurethane wood sealant to build-up a mousing surface on a laminate desk. Integrate WWW.INSTRUCTABLES.COM Integrate "satin" Polyurethane Mouse Pad Into Desk Finish: Old computer desks tend to wear pretty quickly, but I've found even laminate desks can be coated with poly, I just roughed up the desk... I'm kinda tempted to run to the hw store for polyurethane but, it'll take awhile to cure, regardless of what I put it on. I also have a thing for Glass and Metal. Are there any half-decent out-of-the-box cheap hardpads? Or, any recc's/experiences w/ sourcing the right thickness of glass to coat or Alu. to sand? Thanks.

(Probably already asked. Feel free to quote other replies to me, lol) What's the expectations on turn-around and 'process' for US customers? I'm in need of a new mousepad / deskmat (accidentally melted my SteelSeries w/ Acetone, while cleaning a GPU )

Judging by the reported symptom(s), yes. It's likely software-side. I've had my Vega be recognized as yet-another of the same card, and the old card be stuck in hidden devices. IIRC, this is why everyone spams "Run DDU in safemode", and are right to do so. BTW: Congratulations! I've only ever once had such luck (with a freebie eWaste laptop, IIRC) -

This was mentioned somewhere else, and realized it might be helpful, here: Update of the MoreClockTool (MCT) to version 1.1.0 - Download is online WWW.IGORSLAB.DE The latest version 1.01 of the MoreClockTool is online. With the use of the AMD Device Library eXtra Software Development Kit (ADLX SDK) RDNA3 is now also inclu Also, did *not* realize that about Vega. Ouch! Yes, HBM is very thermal sensitive; the cooler you can keep it, the higher it clocks. 800-945mhz, it can 'eat the heat' but, 1050-1107+ ya gotta keep it under 75C. As you've found out, you can go crazy-high, if under nice and cool water. Personally, 1106Mhz (Actual) on the HBM is my 'ideal'. IDK if it's placebo, but I swear Vega runs smoother when the SoC and HBM clocks are 1:1. If your ambients are that high, more air can only help so much: I'd be looking at an active water chiller, lol. I'm not 100% sure yet. This'd be the 3rd time I thought I killed that card. Both Vega and Navi 2x, seem to get testy with me when I crash them. Sometimes after sitting unpowered or power cycling, they come back. No clue why, other than like a non-UEFI compatible 'safe mode'. Yes, I was using the Navi 24 6500 XT for AFMF'ing my other older cards. Somehow, even w/ an RX580X, Vega 64, and "WX 9100", and even w/ AFMF off, I was getting better benchmarked performance passing another card's rendering thru to the 6500. Tested that like 5x times w/ A:FoP and Killing Floor 2. Strangest part: Vega does NOT like to do the same. (passing frames from one Vega to another is not smooth). Amusingly, I recently moved to the 5800X3D, also. While my (FSP 250W TDP "Rated") air cooler isn't quite up to the task*, the X3D 'boosted' my Vegas' already good min framerate. As you've demonstrated (and I've played with) HBM GPUs aren't dead. OC'd they just keep gaining performance. A dream of mine, is to drop a riser-connected MI25/WX 9100 in a container of mineral oil, then drop in dry ice. *F@H easily thermally-maxes my 5800X3D w/ current cooling.

R.ID Community Driver: Hybrid - Release Nebula 23.11.1 WHQL | Page 436 | guru3D Forums FORUMS.GURU3D.COM I do not see the driver version he used in the video description, can you tell what's the driver used? It would've been the latest Valve APU driver,... BTW, I've had problems w/ the 24.1.1 drivers (the last few days) on my Vega cards*. (primarily just the installer not installing the drivers correctly, and CCC not installing after) *Sadly, it appears my Navi 24 RX 6500 XT has perished. So, I've got a Vega 64 and a "WX 9100" in the machine @TM. More than 1 card, seems to confuse the latest R.ID installer(s).
