  1. if they force windows 11 on me without fixing virtual machine support, i will have a knipshit as i need VM software for university courses my PC has sat on 21H2 windows 10 pro for that specific reason, imagine what forcing updates to small companies and office enviroments could do to software compatibility. if microsoft forces us to windows 11, theyll then EOL that and force us to windows 12. never ending story.
  2. the 5700XT is now considered an 8-900 dollar GPU according to ebay...which means we all made good investments
  3. flashbacks are real. youtube says so
  4. in my honest opinion, i would never even think of using laptops for folding, or any really intensive workloads. hell. mine has a hard enough time running VMs for my schoolwork. my home desktop though like you mentioned wanting to build. is an overbuilt powerhouse in every way except GPU, because i refuse to pay current prices for one.
  5. My mother and stepfather both are what i call.... "technology inept" they have a hard time with basic tasks on a computer and rely mostly on thier iphones, but theyve asked for something specific, as they are to partake in an upcoming wedding via a Zoom call. they want a monitor, with both speakers and a webcam/microphone built in. i myself have never heard of such a thing, i know they used to do speakers on monitors in the early 2000s. but it stopped shortly thereafter. i did warn them thet may have to give up some screen realestate to have speakers and a cam attached, if i can find one at all. does anybody know of such a thing in existence?
  6. ah mushkin copperhead my old friend. how i miss thy DDR3 voodoo
  7. in EHW land, ETF joins you.
  8. Rig Update Time (temporary soft tube until i have the funds and time for hardline)
  9. this is one of two reasons i cant touch windows 11. i need the read/write for VMs the other being VMs not working properly or sometimes even at all. i need them both for my job and schoolwork.
  10. in a way yes. but we also need to think about the reprocussions. as long as people pre order or buy a game day one. this will continue to be the norm. because devs go "ah they already paid for it, we can fix it later" and throw it out on the release date because thats what they promised the consumer. id rather see them push back a couple months and do playtesting and some form of QC. gone are polished games we used to get.
  11. i had quite a few friends who play the game as a group who say they have had a huge amount of problems. anything from directional sound on 5.1/7.1 issues reloading guns where the animation happens but you're still empty and get massacred. a couple have had in game complains of random latency spikes in multiplayer on fiber connections, along with random hard crashes some within 5 minutes, some 4 hours into gameplay. i've chose to steer clear as im more into WW2/vietnam time period games than i am the modern stuff. but from what im hearing theres alot of work to be done. arent we all just sick of companies releasing half baked games and expecting the end-users to beta test?
  12. i have an MX300 1TB, an MX500 2TB and a few older ones in my storage pile from cruicial also glad to be of help beregond. glad my knowledge is still useful.

  16. Thats one spicy nutsack if it needs cooling. in other news welcome to the forums. joe, and yes man of us are going grey in age these days
  17. in before pro watercooling. (before the comment happens, yes i fixed my 24 pin, it was bugging me too)

  19. blew up the i7 laptop w/ RTX 2060 that was folding for me. such as life.
  20. ill put my own two cents in here, i've got all 3 types of drives in my current rig, 2x sata SSDs, a m.2 gen 3 SSD and a m.2 gen 4 SSD load times for windows have maybe a half second difference between drives. load times for games are also pretty moot, i installed metro exudos in all 3 type of drives to test, and settled that my sata 2TB SSD was more than fast enough, a second or two more at most on a loading screen. M.2 drives were designed for SPACE SAVING for smaller computer builds and such primarily. benchmarks as synthetic as they are make little to no real-world difference. and the pricetag sure kicks your wallet pretty hard between the 3 of them on the shelf. in the end, go with whichever ssd tickles your fancy that you have space for cause every speed jump in drives seems to be more rediculous pricing for much less actual real-world operation differences.
  21. yes steam has that issue, it caps me at about 500 ish downloading. then cuts me to zero for a couple minutes and starts again. the way to mitigate it is to set the download speed to what you see your max drive write speed hit in steam, then it doesnt stop downloading
  22. ironically it took 2 replacements to get a working one. they also dont want the broken ones back because "covid" first one sent back was dead 10G ports, only 1G worked. Second one had a dead fiber port, no signal coming into it. 3rd refused firmware update and bricked itself. 4th one worked fine once i got it hooked up and my ISP login info put into it.
