There aren't many sites left that don't charge sales tax.

American Raspberry Pi Shop. One stop shop for all your Pi needs. Raspberry Pi add-ons, HATs, accessories, Starter Kit, Media Center...

Pishop doesn't charge sales tax, so that's where I buy my Pi's.  It's in Delaware.  Delaware has no sales tax so I guess that's why they don't collect any.

And if anyone does any 3D Printing

Exotic and premium filaments. High end 3D printers. Quality upgrades and parts for all of your 3D printing needs.

Printed Solid, another Delaware company doesn't charge sales tax.

the 3D printer thing kinda made me grin a bit. i have a very modified Ender 3 V2 that i constantly run prints on.

  2. As i was going through my email this morning, i noticed one from ebay. now this isnt out of the ordinary when its bid notifications or something but it wasn't. it was something MUCH worse.

as of july 1st 2022 the following will be implemented on ebay according to thier email:

Canadian and American sellers selling items to others  will pay thier usual fees to ebay.

Canadian and American BUYERS will pay all PROVINCIAL/STATE/GOVERMENT SALES TAX ON PURCHASED ITEMS. ontop of the fee ebay already collects from the seller.

i find it absolutely obsurd that ebay cant take that hit out of thier own cut of the profit margins they get from people selling.

buy what you need off ebay now folks, we have a month to gather anything we may need before the taxing is enforced.

  3. this sounds like a bad cable to me, ive had this plenty in office setups before, especially if a cable has been coiled, or in my case, stored on the 1000FT spool in the spool box for a really long time.

and before anyone asks.....i pull cat5e/cat6/cat7 (depending on site requests) in large office building as a side job for $$ in college. ive had spooled cable be bad when testing after a pull before, its annoying but very very possible if its coiled or its being stretched to its limit by someone. if you boguht it off a store or from amazon and its defective, return/refund it and toss it. and one thing ive learned from customers cheaping out MONOPRICE cables tend to be pretty low quality of materials and have the most issues.

One of the nice things about today's latest and greatest PC components is that you can buy them tomorrow from a unicorn-chaser at a fraction of the original price. Smart shoppers will let someone else take the hit on depreciation. Conceptually this applies equally to a lot of other things, including motor vehicles.

I have purchased the following items currently in use secondhand:

    - 10900K (known good bin)

    - Sopercool Direct Die Block on my 10900K

    - EVGA Z490 Dark

    - 12900K (known good bin)

    - T-Force Delta DDR5-6200

    - EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3

    - EKWB Quantum Velocity on my FTW3

    - EVGA Supernova 1600 P2 PSU

Buying secondhand CPUs allows you to avoid anything that is of average or poor bin quality (unless the seller is dishonest).

is also depends where you buy second hand from, for example theres certain components i wont touch on ebay. but will buy elsewhere.

    BIT.LY

Now it is possible to stop Windows 10 from updating your drivers. By default, Windows 10 automatically installs drivers from Windows Update. Here is how to change it.

i had this issue with my bench rig recently. all i did was this:

device manager---> uninstall driver+tell it to remove from system to delete it----> install version you want-----> reboot.

it played ball after that mess. never updated it again

I've been reading what you all have been saying and you are all making good points. It's time we all realize just where we are today.

Being a parent of a teenager and a four year old, while working a full time job changes my lens just a smidge. Now while I 100% agree with regulating social media exposure to your children, there are two points I think of often. I grew up with an analog childhood and a digital adulthood. I still have values and tendencies towards face to face interaction and less reliance on technology. That simply will not be my children's world experience and I feel that I would fail them if I did not prepare them for that future. Do I want my kids to be self-absorbed, vain and zombified? Of course not. But this exposure to the world they will inherit does require parental guidance.

No generation ever understands the ones that follow. I spend a great deal of time trying to put myself in my children's shoes, but they never fit. At the end of a 12 hour day, am I going to put my daughter on an iPad to watch PBS kids? YEP, I'm also cooking dinner and contemplating life decisions. My kids never did come with their manuals from the manufacturer.... 🤷‍♂️

your kids came with a manual, but your wife hid it from you. its how she keeps you on edge. :wheee:

ROTFL, My first thought when I saw this post was when I told my wife I had over 300 hours in Witcher 3 she asked me "How many of those were spent in the whore houses?" 🤣 And I actually stopped to think about my answer...

tomb raider has 3 focus points:

    1 -  laras booty

2 - keeping laras booty alive by killing things

    3 - puzzle progression

though most may disagree with me on this. but alot wont.

Got sucked back into World of Tanks. Actually been a relatively positive experience so far; we'll see if it lasts.

that experience will last until tier 6 or 7 when you get tossed in with tier 9 players and get outgunned

I don't think the ideas that parents should do a better job monitoring their kids behavior and that social media companies should have some safe guards when it comes to the algorithms they use to keep minors engaged are mutually exclusive. Both are good things here.

the problem is informing these younger parents who are glued to it themselves, thats its not healthy for thier children. a good portion of them are in denial, but look to social media for approval of people on a daily basis. children learn to mirror the behaviour of thier parents at a young age. so if not being liked on social media makes parents angry or depressed, the children will get ahold of it and do the same eventually. its a vicious cycle that needs to be stopped before we get multiple generations into this problem.

...yeah, anyone who limits themselves re. hardware choices - much less when competing at HWBot - should have a thoroughly long vacation filled with mental days. I own about twice as many NVidia as AMD GPUs, but heck, I might even add one of those upcoming (if ever released...) Intel discreet GPUs if those are shown to work well.

In my latest build, w/ everything at 24C ambient, the 3090 w-cooled Strix beats the w-cooled 6900XT most of the time at 4K and/or ray tracing, but the AMD rips well past 24.1k graphics in Time Spy, to name just one example. It is also a 3x8 pin PCB just like the NVidia, and frankly has way more fun options to super-tune, thanks to MPT etc....stock, the AMD is limited to 303W max, now it is running 500W, and I could push it to 600W (but won't). Granted, the 3090 is running 520W (potentially up to 1kw vbios, but I haven't run that one so far either). The amount of fiddling one can do for extra HWBot scores as a result is relatively more limited, unless you are running a Kingpin or Galax Ampere, and/or the 1kw XOC vbios. The AMD is MAD fun just to fool around with, the NVidia is the more focused pure-blood racehorse. Obviously, all this does not focus on folding@home, mining etc which can be a different ballgame.

Either way though, looking at leaks re. next-gen GPUs by both AMD and NVidia, it is going to be a crazy PL fight at the top end, much like the muscle car era in the late 1960s/early '70s. That in turns means getting some really good hi-po PSUs...not just by the numbers on the box, but re. ripple et al. GPUs with 600W max on stock vbios are just around the corner, never mind those spy shots of upcoming GPU PCBs with two 600W connectors 🙊

its coming to a point where the arms race is ending with us spending more money to power the monster, which is going to put high end out of reach for alot more people. if your already spending $2000+ on a card, itll be hard to swallow another $400-$500+ for a PSU for alot of people. the point of diminishing returns has been reached but they continue to push.  @Avacado and @Bastiaan_NL know we throw banter back and forth at eachother constantly, if i owned half of what either of them owns in hardware id be in nirvana and they know it.

    I see.

Well I can't say I'm too particularly fold of too many brands, but I generally do choose SuperFlower PSUs ever since my first Rosewill Capstone because they generally have good performance per price value and solid ripple suppression for overclocking. I generally hate Corsair anything, but especially their RAM lol.

see most wil lturn thier nose up at me for this, but i have logitech lightspeed peripherals A G703 mouse and a G915 TKL keyboard. wireless has little to no latency anymore so i see no reason to fight it.

PSUs wise, i was guilty of using corsair for many years, recently my sig rig got a 1000W Silverstone SFX-L unit that ive been happy with. theres a 750W corsair SFX PSU on my bench, cause i wasnt about to buy another psu at this price gouge point. nor can i afford it as a college student

Here's an idea. Maybe parents should be more active in controlling screen time, and what their 14 year old does online.

sadly alot of todays parents use online social media and games as a babysitter, schools arent doing much better handing out tablets and laptops at a young age either.

Since you guys liked the M2000, you can get similar huge overclocks with the W2100 and W4100 GCN based Firepro and they are cheap asf on ebay.

@Bastiaan_NL and @Avacado are nvidia guys, bastian even lit his cheapazz chips benching ATI card on fire when he was done and sent me a video of it.

Well dang. We're having a severe thunderstorm and power went out for half a second, enough to reset every computer in the house. All of my clients were able to save the work units except my etf rig, so probably lost a day's worth of work on this W4100. On the bright side I might have some better cards for the team soon.

@damric i bet your shipping me your old ones :wheee::wheee::wheee: im just joking 😄

    Hello all.

Originally my plan was to keep EHW ad free for everyone as nobody really likes advertisements and I include myself in that category. However, with the recent massive  increases in the cost of living in the UK, I am now considering bringing advertising to the site so that the site can start working towards being a self sustaining entity. After taking a long hard look at finances, it is clear that my monthly "Free" pool of money is decreasing. As I say, this is mostly due to the increase in the cost of living plus some personal factors that I cannot get into.

As we all are aware, sites cost money to run on a monthly basis with the hosting, Security/CDN, Remote backups, SEO etc etc, this does not include development work to bring features to the community to make it a better place to be.

I will in the coming weeks begin looking into advertisements, this will include your standard ads (Google) and hopefully some sponsor places ads.

This was not the sort of move I wanted to make but for the site overall, it will be a beneficial move. It likely goes without saying that anyone who is a Premium Subscriber will not see the ads. Ads will only be viewable by standard members, or if you are logged out.

    More info to come.

    All the very best,

    E

i guess my little nudge in PMs earlier finally helped you see the light. if you need any assistance just ask, ill offer what i can give you.
