  1. I noticed @firedfly is saying it works fine on his chrome browser in windows, and not on his phone (also chrome but obviously slightly different than a desktop version would be) so perhaps it is somehow related to browser interaction? I use Edge on my windows 10 rig here.
  2. It's really bad in the mainstream media as well. 90% of news outlets are owned by a select few corporations. They only tell you the picture of the world they want to represent, not always the truth. Honest Journalism is dead.
  3. Same, I click the alert notification and it comes up like this sometimes and I have to scroll up. Just switched that setting to show the latest post instead, will report back with results. Also the forum does appear "cleaner" now and looks much better. Thank you for fixing that. Currently what's happening when I click on a notification:
  4. @J7SC_Orion You could always try the vortex cooler if you don't mind sounding on par with a wide open throttle chainsaw. Maybe wireless mouse and keyboard and put the machine in another room? This one pictured is good for about 800 watts cooling performance. Yes you heard me correctly...
  5. No Netscape navigator?
  6. The base unit was a barebones dual processor capable z840 with no GPU/mem/CPU. that cost me about $350 on ebay. It has some scratches but you can replace both side panels pretty easily and covers are cheap online. I used the HP factory water cooling system, which is also compatible with the z820 (which raises the question of building a possible sleeper using z840 parts in a z820), since motherboard/CPUs are in identical locations. I already had this liquid cooling sitting around since I have a lot of spare z820s. But both rigs are pretty low profile looking anyway. Memory is single rank (I know, should have gone dual but it was cheap @ ~ $300) set up in a dual (quad) channel configuration which is eight channel effective, with a latency penalty. That's sixteen DIMMS across both CPUs. Chips can be turbo hacked but you need x99 motherboard to reveal full potential. I chose two 2696 v3 chips because they have the base clock of the flagship 2699 v3 (2.3GHz) but a higher all core turbo (2.6 vs 2.8GHz) and higher single core turbo of 3.8GHz vs 3.6GHz for the flagship. They run about $149.99 on ebay in grade A condition. So this is stock performance with no turbo manipulation but I do have a couple of other tricks up my sleeve which help a little with benchmarking. people have had luck with SOME of the z series computers and turbo hacking by removing the microcode from the BIOS. This is done by mostly by sourcing very old BIOS releases which were produced before some of the potentially turbo hackable chips hit the market. But they are difficult to install and hard to find in the wild now. To make improvements I had to settle for reducing temps and undervolting. This was done my removing standard heat sink grease and applying liquid metal and also to undervolt the processors using throttlestop, which is a bit tricky. But from there I can also raise the NB multiplier to 30, which gives me a little more memory throughput. These CPUs are binned and designed to operate at a very low voltage, just a shame they cannot be overclocked. The system would be unstoppable if I could overclock, or at least more fun! Someone got me into dual CPU rigs way back (shout out to @mr.scott) and I never looked back. It's what allows you to take dated old technology and actually still be competitive against new technology (to some extent). Plus who doesn't like loading up a rig with the best hardware and seeing out it will perform? Two processors is just double the phun in my opinion. There is a build log on this forum in that subsection with more detailed information if you are interested. But yes, definitely my favorite build to date. Plus the z840 has a pretty sick looking motherboard.
  7. I need to be able to both multi and BCLK OC for benchmarking. If I'm lacking one or the other it's not going to be good for benchmarking. Just figured with prices down a bit I'd slowly work my way up to current tech. Starting with the best 14nm processor revision (rocket lake).
  8. Hopefully it will look like this when Im done:

  10. If you run methanol in the bucket, you can get around the icing up issue. Unless you are going lower than -25*F, then you would have to increase the methanol content. How is the project going, any progress?
  11. Sorry if this was answered already, are you planning to overclock?
  12. Is there a link to the leaderboard here? It would be nice to see our scores.
  13. Okay should have read through that in more detail. Yes you are correct it seems to be a about a $50 difference between the K and the KF on eBay.

  15. No, task manager is showing this regardless of how I have my slots set up: Although my power level in HWMonitor is showing 290 watts, which is the limit when both CPUs are maxed out. So I don't know what to believe anymore. lol
  16. Windows 10 Enterprise. If you need to remote in tomorrow I'll be around in the afternoon. thanks for the help.
  17. Every time I go to advanced control and hit configure, I see where you can change the number of threads. However, even If I change that it goes back to the original value (which is let the client decide).
  18. hi guys Still having an issue with CPU not loading up on all my threads. See below. It's clearly only hitting one CPU but the contradiction is that I'm seeing a 289 watt number (which normally indicates both CPUs are maxed out. But yet when I open core temp, I'm only getting heavy loads on CPU#0. See below as CPU#0 has fully come online but CPU#1 is just essentially idling there. Which is why I cannot figure out why core temp is reporting 290 watts. So
  19. Is folding@home able to take full advantage of the CPUs? How does that efficiency compare (GPU vs CPU)? reason being I do have a 24/7 rig I could fold with, dual procressor but weak GPU.
  20. Guess you are right and you cant just change out the mounting mechanism to make it work. Same thing happens with LGA 2011. The different, later variants such as 2011-1 and LGA 2011-2 were not backwards compatible. I've got a spare z820 if you want to tinker with that. It has two rare 2673 v2 eight core processors and 64GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM. Pay me for shipping and it's all yours (just FYI its so heavy, it could be used as a boat anchor). Only issue with the rig is it has one bad memory slot on CPU #1. I have not troubleshot that much so it may be a fixable, really don't know short of reseating and swapping ram, but the ram is confirmed good. You are going to have to provide GPU and SSD.
  21. I think as a collective forum we should be able to find a solution here without you having to return everything. Lets just see if we can find you some sort of workaround...
  22. Whats wrong with core temp? I set it to view temps, peak power usage and a couple other things Thats all i use it for. Also if you notice i have HWINFO64 running in the task bar because I use it all the time!
