The EOC stats don't update very often so it's hard to tell where we really lie currently. Behind the scenes I've convinced another heavy hitter to fire up some hardware. So we might end up in a neck and neck brawl with TPU for a while.

Techpowerup is where a lot of our members went when the site was closing. I made an account over there but ultimately decided to fold for HardOCP instead. I came back to EHW when it was purchased and looked like things would go back to business as usual, but it's been a slow crawl getting people back into folding here. I've been slowly replacing a lot of my GPUs with more power efficient RTX 40 and 50 series cards to be able to fold more. However, most of the builds are still in progress since I'm an idiot and watercool everything. THAT SAID... We ain't going down without a fight! I'm spinning up some hardware now. This is about all I'm going to be able to manage without finishing a couple builds.

EXTREMEHW AUGUST 2025 48-hour FOLDATHON, August 30th 00:00 UTC Start
Fluxmaven replied to damric's topic in Folding@Home
Lol just popped in to see when it started... It already has. So I'm firing some stuff up. I really meant to build another rackmount rig to toss in the basement that I could just leave folding all the time but I've been out of town for work constantly. If I toss a card on the test bench, I have an excuse to relax this weekend and not bench for team cup -

Then you should be fine. Can always undervolt it a bit if you're really concerned. Now if you flashed a way spicier BIOS, I could see you running into some issues. -

I'll obviously be folding... How crazy depends on if we get a cool weekend. -
So I was in Microcenter the other day returning a mouse I didn't like... Somehow ended up buying a monitor I didn't know I needed lol. I definitely wouldn't have dropped a grand on a monitor this size, but they had one open box for $500 which is still a tad cheaper than a basic 240Hz OLED. Zero hours on it so whoever bought it must have just had buyers remorse and took it right back. The main monitor on my bedroom rig had been an older Viewsonic Elite with an actual G-Sync module. So I had been thinking I should do something different with that rig. Going back to an Nvidia card that is better than the 6950XT (without regressing on VRAM) would have been considerably more than I spent on the monitor. It was also tax free weekend in Ohio for under $500 which was the cherry on top.

techpowerup Thermal Grizzly Officially Launches der8enchtable

I already have a nice test bench that I barely use, but I'm and idiot and still want this. Thankfully it's expensive enough to not be an impulse purchase. Now if they wanted to send one for review...- 1 reply

EXTREMEHW JULY 2025 48-hour FOLDATHON, July 26th 00:00 UTC Start

Thanks for turning things up a bit. There was a brief time when I thought I might be able to stay ahead but checked again and you were blowing my doors off. Hitting finish on most of the rigs since we're about at the end of the foldathon. I'd love to fold hard 24/7 but can't justify fighting the AC. Electric bill was just over $800 last month and will be the same or worse this month. I'm going to keep my 3090 FTW3 a bit longer since it's still under extended warranty. The 3090 Kinpin is the only 30 series card I will end up keeping long term since it has some sentimental value due to some custom modifications a friend did. All the rest I'd happily replace with more efficient cards... Need to take care of a few other things before dropping money on higher end cards though. -

79.5 degrees in the office currently. SO much better than when I run the 30 series cards. My most recent GPU purchases are the 5060 TI 16GB and a 4070. I haven't finalized what build the 4070 will actually live in, yet so it's just on the test bench for the foldathon. Both of these GPUs are pretty even in PPD doing a bit over 8m currently. The 5060 TI is doing it at 90-112w power draw. The 4070 is averaging around 180w. Both undervolted. I just got the 4070 so haven't dug as deep on the undervolt on that card but should be able to whittle it down further. This is huge because the 3090s uncorked only do a couple million more PPD at 3-4x the power draw. They also lose more PPD with a significant undervolt. The 5060 Ti seemingly just cut it's power draw in half from stock with almost no PPD loss at all. I absolutely get the hate for the new Nvidia cards. They are overpriced and raw performance uplift from gen to gen isn't high. The efficiency gains are awesome though. For the average gamer with one GPU living in moms basement, I'd just get a used 3080 or an AMD card. For distributed computing running a bunch of cards, the lower power draw is a godsend. -

Yea I was hoping for a cool week to be able to fire up more cards. I live in a big old house so it's a battle to keep it bearable inside this time of year without adding the heat load of a bunch of GPUs. Still going to suffer a bit for the cause -
Howdy, Team Cup 2025 is already underway. In the past couple years, EHW made a really strong showing for being such a small team. If anyone has a bunch of random hardware laying around and some spare time, head on over and make some submissions. I'm not planning on buying much if anything this year, but I'll try and get a sub in with everything I have that fits any of the categories.

How old is your PSU? Which Leadex do you have? Super Flower makes really good PSUs. If yours is getting up there in years, might be worth it for peace of mind to upgrade. Leadex VII XP 1200W is a great option that gets you the new connector and a little bit more wattage. They also have the Leadex VII XG 1300W that sometimes goes on sale a bit cheaper. I've had one on my test bench for over a year now with great results. The adapter works fine, just doesn't look as nice as a dedicated cable.

So I've had a Bitspower 2 DIMM block for a while. It uses the original Dominator hole spacing. The new Dominator Titanium kits, while they do have removable tops it's totally different spacing. So for that kit I just got the optional fins to replace the RGB top. I then bought "normal" IceMan blocks that have Dominator spacing to use that Bitspower block. From there I proceeded to buy 2 DDR5 kits that I just tossed in systems. Couple weeks ago I got a good deal on a F5-8000J4048G24GX2-TZ5N kit but it came with IceMan direct touch blocks. That is going into my main rig with the EPYC 4564P. Thanks to brother @Mr. Fox I got a great deal on a kit of F5-8000J3848H16GX2-TZ5NR that had the heatspreaders removed before (making it much less of a PITA for me). So finally the Bitspower block has a home after who knows how many years I've had it. I'm up to 7 DDR5 kits and 3 of them have blocks. I still don't know a damn thing about DDR5 tuning but everything will look cool at least.

Glad to have you. I just like stirring the pot. I can't fold 24/7 on all the systems since they have other uses, but it's fun to do crazy PPD for a couple days. Moreso in the winter though -

Hotter than a hoochie coochie over here but I'll still fire up a bit more than what I've been running lately. If anyone is trying to catch these hands, I can always turn the house into an oven and get some big numbers on the board. Not willing to sweat alone though. I need some competition. -
Thanks guys! I'm just glad she uses it One of her best friends becoming a twitch streamer definitely had a big influence on her showing any interest in PC games.

Took the day off work. Decided to finish this while I had some free time. Added an Aquacomputer Octo so I can control fans based on liquid temp. The Arctic P12 Max can get pretty loud but move a ton of air. After I get all the air bubbles worked out and fan curve dialed in, it will be ready to go for the upcoming foldathon.

I have way to many systems. I also have multiple racks, so it makes sense to start doing rackmount builds lol. I'm planning on using this as my main rig for a couple weeks while I tear down my main rig for some long overdue maintenance and a couple upgrades. After that, It will just go into the rack as a folding rig unless I end up needing it for something else down the line. RackChoice 3U case Temporarily its running a Ryzen 5700X3D in a B550 board. That's going to go into my travel rig and the Z790i + Delidded 12600KF will go into this rig. RTX 5060 Ti 16GB watercooled with a Koolance GPU-210 block on the core and an Alphacool MCX One kit to cool the memory. Corsair SF600 360mm XSPC rad D5 Vario in Bitspower top FrozenQ 2016 limited edition reservoir that I've been meaning to do something with for a long time PCB on the Gigabyte 5060 Ti is hilariously tiny. Beer for scale. Having memory on the front and back makes things interesting. Using large loops of tubing to keep from applying a lot of force on the blocks to hopefully keep them from popping off. Added a bunch of zip ties to help hold things in place. After a few heat cycles if they seem to stay on solidly, I might cut those all off. Trying something new. Didn't want to use nuts and bolts to mount the pump since it would stick down further and make it harder to slide into a populated rack. So I riveted it in. Seems to work great. For some dumb reason, I want to do a few runs of hardline tubing. (mostly since I have a bunch laying around). We'll see how that goes but I got some progress done before it got hot this morning so I'm content with putting that off for another day.

So I guess I never did a build log for this... Around 2020 I gave my sister a build I did for fun just so she had a desktop computer... It was an i7 6700 with an OG GTX Titan when I built it, but I swapped the watercooled Titan for a 980 Ti since I knew she wouldn't maintain a custom loop. No pics of what I sent her off with, but here's what it looked like with the Titan. It was in a windowless black Fractal Define Nano S. A solid little system at the time, but it was never cute enough for her even after covering it with stickers. A while ago Cooler Master wanted us to review an SFX PSU. I said I'd do it if they sent along a Pink NR200 to review along with it... They had just discontinued the pink and so I was sent a white version instead. For anybody interested Here's the review of the PSU/Case. After the review, I built her a bit of an upgrade. i5 12500 GTX 1070 32GB Trident Z Royal Crucial P3 Plus 2TB Thermalright SI-100 CM NR200P wrapped with sparkle blue vinyl That has served her well the last couple years. She still doesn't game much but was interested in trying Hogwarts Legacy. Figured that might be a little too much for the ole 1070. As well as Nvidia starting to phase out support for Pascal. Figured it was time for a bit of an upgrade. I just happened to be in Tampa for work last week, so I stopped by her new place and swapped in an RTX 3060 Ti.

81.3 degrees in the office currently and that's with the AC running and not folding on the 3090s. Wish I had the spare electrical capacity to install a mini split. I'm working on a silly project with a 50 series card. I'll post a build log in a bit but hopefully will have it done before the event starts. -
