Feeling down 'coz you missed out on the 4090 which has been selling like hot cakes? Don't be. Instead, consider yourself lucky you missed out on that fire sale which currently has some folks fearing they might end up burning down their house and everything (and everyone) in it. Anyway, a couple of songs this early AM to help cheer you up: Saved for a rainy day game of trivial pursuit: ...now think of the moolah one might be able to make using a fawlty 4090 card The possibilities are endless.

^Yeah, I get that (after all, this is EXTREMEHW dot net). Gonna hit the sack now, but for anyone who's interested, here's some Amphenol source material for the parts we're talking about: GS-12-1706 GENERAL PRODUCT SPECIFICATION Minitek Pwr CEM-5 12VHPWR Wire to Board Connectors https://www.mouser.com/pdfDocs/gs-12-1706.pdf GS-20-0704 Application Specification Minitek Pwr CEM-5 12VHPWR Wire to Board Connectors https://www.mouser.com/pdfDocs/gs-20-0704.pdf Added (Amphenol's main page for the same product): Minitek® Pwr CEM-5 PCIe® Connector System In news elsewhere...- 31 replies

You can only squeeze so much current through the weakest link in a circuit before something fries; the weakest link typically being where electrical connections are made in a circuit. Forego proper strain relief resulting in too much wiggle room, couple that with exceeding recommended maximum number of connector mating cycles, toss in using mixed metals in connector pins (e.g., tin plated male pins used with gold plated female pins, etc.), exceed the current carrying capacities of any part in the puzzle, etc., and you're asking for eventual trouble. Make it worse by pulling neat tricks like swapping out current limiting resistors that allow you to shoehorn even more power into your processors, etc., and, well, you might get what you're asking for or not, even if unintentionally (but often unintelligently).- 31 replies

New bios was released today for the z690 Dark: That said, hold off on doing any updates, they're going to release another update to fix a problem some people are having with updating using the USB port. See the EVGA z690 motherboard forum for more info (having trouble posting a link to it here).
-
I was going to do that as well, but I was so impressed with @Avacado's results that that I ordered a 13900K from Newegg. I am faced with the same situation as @Bastiaan_NLthough, as we both will be/are using the same motherboard (the Z690 Dark). That's all kinda moot at the moment as I really need to get that Atlas II build finished to at least the point that it's up and running. So I'm going to focus on that now that I've moved that build to a cart that helps make that somewhat easier for me.
-
Moved the Atlas II build to the rolling cart, which makes it a lot easier to work on: Also got parts coming in a few days for the dual MO-RA3 tower (picked up a couple of spare D5s as well):

^Pretty much the same for me, the closest being 5-6 hours south of me, depending on traffic. I'm so far north in NY I might as well be Canadian... ...eh?

Been using the 140mm SW3s, but am now moving to the larger Noctuas to cut down on clutter: It's actually cheaper for me to order directly from Watercool than from someone here on this side of the pond. No sales tax per se, and no shipping charges if I hit the 500 Euro mark (even with the crappy exchange rate Paypal offers). Lastly, I should also note that even though a wait time of 24 days or so was stated for the fan brackets when I ordered, I received a notice from Watercool the following morning telling me the order's been shipped.
-
Yes, looks correct.

Could be--we're talking two kinds of restriction here. The first being against the flow of cooling fluid (e.g., water) internally, and; the second being how difficult it is to push/pull air through the cooling fins. I was referring to the latter (cooling fins, push/pull air through them) when I made my post.

^Not bad. This one's pretty good as far as death metal goes. I can listen to it, but it's not my favorite genre (I had a number of headbanging friends over the years).

Answers: See what @Diffidentrecommended. Yes, you could do that using something like Koolance QD3s or QD4s. If you go that route, opt for the nickel plated fittings instead of the black ones. Historically, people have had flaking/corrosion issues with the black ones. That's dependent on what size MO-RA (360 vs 420); AND if you opt for the 420, whether you go with 9X 140MM fans or 4x of the larger Noctuas. I can't speak to the Arctics, but I imagine they'd be okay. The MO-RAs are low restriction as far as static pressure/fan speed needs go. Me, I've used the 140mm SW3s, but am now moving to the larger Noctuas to cut down on clutter (see the order I just placed below). It's actually cheaper for me to order directly from Watercool than from someone here on this side of the pond. No sales tax, and no shipping charges if I hit the 500 Euro mark (even with the crappy exchange rate Paypal offers). Let us know if you have other questions

Latest purchase, because time waits for noone. Made using an industrial yarn bobbin from early last century... It'll go good with my brass oil lamps: also just got notice of an earlier order of mine shipping from Poland: prepping for youtube; i'm going to narrate the coming apocalypse

get enough chains, gears, rails, and crankshafts and one can make most things work

It's more of a walking puzzler, which I kinda like (I'm an old fart). Also love the Gigeresque graphics and have been waiting longer for it than any new video card. Who knows, I might even do a detailed review of the game with a pip version of me in a video playing it. If I do so though, I'd be wearing a Plague Doctor's getup. ... Anyway, I'll download it shortly; and fwiw, next game I buy will probably be Atomic Heart.
-
I'm guessing Capt. Howdy would agree with that... Anyway, think I might have blown one of my D5 Next control heads when I was moving everything around to accommodate the 2080ti run a few days back (they're more or less fragile junk); and only one pump's been showing up in Aquasuite. I can also move the issue from one pump to the other by swapping the controls heads between the two pumps. Both pumps do still pump water though, so I'm not fretting too much about it. But I think I'm done with the competition for this year. Worse comes to worse, I'll pull the D5 Next Pumps and replace them on the bench with Watercool PWM pumps. In my experiences they've been far more reliable (less stuff to break).

I probably ought to add that both @Avacadoand @Bastiaan_NLheld my hands while I'll put my submission together...
