The ugly side

I can't even say that it looks bad, considering what's in that system! The only thing are those red PCI-e cables :classic_tongue:

But those waterblocks look so cool that they make up for every imperfection.

I've done some things like that too, sometimes it's needed to make it work :classic_tongue:

This is the back side of the Main system. Not my cleanest job, but the Define 7XL has a lot of room so it's not needed to run everything really clean.
It has been taken apart a few times already, so it started really clean and organized and slowly became messy.

1959288624_main7xlback.thumb.jpg.6a96c27e1144cc3ae90449bae737d206.jpg

The front of "The Office", the little fan is there to support the 3090 :classic_laugh:
I never took the time to hide the third 8pin cable. I've been swapping/adding/removing cards to this system a lot, that's why the other 2 8pin cables are twisted and messy.

1759673842_theofficefront.thumb.jpg.7d34a9b366315b948a6ae040090a6828.jpg

And the back side, way less room on this Meshify 2 case compared to the 7XL. So the cables are spread out to be able to close the back panel.

Again not the cleanest, but I know myself and how easy I can decide to switch out hardware between my systems so I'm not going to clean that up.

[edit]

And as some of you may notice, I'm a Fractal Design and Corsair fanboy :classic_love:

oh man! all coordinated on the ugly side is AWESOME. For some reason that never even occurred to me. Thanks for giving me something new top obsess over

Mine currently. All the cables are shoved behind the bar.

I was rebooting for an update, and made a little change just for @Bastiaan_NL :classic_tongue:

There is still one red cable hiding in there, but it's pretty much invisible since it's the auxillary PCIe power at the bottom of the board.

it's still a bit ugly and probably fits best here at the moment...

lighting setup works fine and i'll post another shot once it gets dark. dimmers have been added to most of the lighting, but i still have to add a dimmer to the one that's currently hidden in the far left.

my jury rigged test setup:

also going to throw an ammeter on it to see how much current the whole thing draws when fully powered; and I'm still waiting on fuses for the big knife switch.

any side of my PC is the ugly side.... that's why it sits up on a shelf lol... the lights in it were there back when I actually tried... 4 or so builds later in the same box and I have completely abandoned all pretense of cable management, I just keep stuff out of the airflow and call it... what can I say, this is a working rig, not a glamourous model ?.... now my wifes PC, I kept neat, hers doesn't even have an ugly side, all cables stuffed into the bay area up top... and what do you know, you can't even see into hers ?... somethings wrong with me lol.

As you have guessed, the first two are my travesty... a real work horse, but ugly as sin.  The next 3 are my wife's dainty little HTPC, not the cleanest build (needs zip ties), but pretty clean for me.... the last picture is my retro PC build on a wall... I worked harder on the cable management on it than any computer I ever have and it's still a bit ugly, but still neat I think.

By now you know I don't do glamour builds, I just make it work and keep it's cool... ok, I suck at good looking builds so I gave up.

Edit: People always ask what's up with all the cables coming out of the side... well.. the PC is so far away from where I actually work, I ran some of the front panel stuff down to where I am... and just recently added the power button to the mix.

That is really cool, so much to look at and going on there!

But I've got to agree with @Sir Beregond that it would be a bit too much for my "office".

If you had to pick one thing you like the most on that wall, what would it be?

If it works and doesn't overheat.. I do like spending a lot of time building something that looks good, but it does get out of control sometimes spending hours on something that doesn't improve temps or function. As long as the cables are not blocking any airflow and can't touch the fans it's not a big deal.

I like what you did with those cables out the side, I used to have a system on a shelf above me and it was hard to reach the power button and usb ports so I did the same :classic_biggrin:

Again, thanks guyz 🙂

The clutter doesn't bother me in the least and when i started out with this wall display, I was going to squeeze as much as I could into it. There's actually a lot of social-psychology wrapped into its theme, which pretty much has to do with a lot of things that helped make me (and many others) what I/we are today.

Anyway...

For those who commented on the "Frankenstein" aspects of the display:

project3-20210412_135905.thumb.jpg.724dbf19b65234bdf3b391fdaf7683e7.jpg

Still need to add fluids to the vessel holding the brain there.

The two small bottles arrived today.

I also received a few other small bottles which I've added to the "radioactive" section of the display:

I keep asking myself the same question every time I look at one of your pictures: "what do I like the most?".
It's hard to answer, but I think I the knife switch is number 1. As I mentioned before, spending many hours in engine rooms I get to see a lot of switchboards and stuff like that. I should get something like that to turn on the light, will brighten up my day :classic_rolleyes:

A story? More like a collection of stories culminating in something akin to Forrest Gump.

Life has been one huge box of chocolates 😉
