The ugly side

This may or may not be the correct place for this topic but I am curious... I want to see the ugly side!

It's easy to find super sexy glamour shots of PC builds with all the lights on and fancy camera settings. Not so much the side with all the cables. SO, I'll show you mine and you show me yours. Would also be curious to know how much crap's worth of wires you tucked, but I suppose some things should stay private.

Here's mine. Wired: AIO, 3 GPUs, water pump, fan/RGB hub, 7 fans, 2 SSDs, and front panel i/o

I used to work at Digital storm, these are just a few pics from back then except for the last one which was a personal PC of mine back when I had a non modular 850 watt PSU and a small case that came with way too many cables.

I don't dare open up the ugly side on my rigs.  I have to literally sit on them to close the dang doors.  I'm actually amazed at how clean your ugly sides are though, wow.  I just let things dangle back there.

Pretty neat topic, subbed for more pics lol.

I've been looking through all my folders, on my phone, my main pc and my backup drive and I've only found one picture from "the ugly side" from all the systems I've build in the past 15 years..

So I'll take some pictures as soon as I've got my case open again, I don't like lifting/moving that thing cause of the weight :classic_laugh:

This is the only one I could find, a build for a friend from 03-2010.

CM Centurion 590 / Phenom II X4 965 / HD5770 and an overkill PSU (xfire plans, never happened)

P1000341.thumb.JPG.293dece35d00c79ffa3c4c4275a00750.JPG

And one from the somewhat better side:

Cleanest one so far. I don't think you have a big enough power supply for that beast though, def not overkill ?

Haha yes, I really don't know why we used that big boy. I know he had plans to use a second HD5770 but even with 2 of those 650w would have been more than enough...

Here's an old one of mine.  I usually don't take "ugly side" pictures.  This was from 2008, an E8400 system in a Lian-Li something that I modded.  The other side is ugly too, considering the gawdy DFI Lanparty board that's in it. ?

That is not so bad, right? I like the jet intake on the front :classic_biggrin:

My CPU block had a bad mount and while it was apart for an extended amount of time while I was turning the SLI water bridges (stainless... bad choice) I came up on that Corsair AIO so I slapped it in. Long-term was to add a second custom loop for the cpu, but my stuff seldom stays together long enough for “long term” anything lol and I’m pretty sure that monsta rad is more than enough for 4 GPUs and a cpu

Scrolling through this topic is so awesome. Just cruising a bunch of real computer pics. Keep em coming! I’ve been admitted to the hospital again and need some tech porn to keep me entertained. This time I planned for stay and brought some headphones and a long charging cable for my phone. You guys are awesome. Thanks for keeping me company. No visitors due to Covid restrictions

Sorry to hear you are back there, I hope you'll feel better soon! I'll see if I can take a few pictures from the active systems today.
Good thing you have your headphones and cable with you, that's actually always the first thing I pack if I need to spend the night somewhere else.

an example of why I don't post "ugly pics". My parts would die of shame and I might be reported for abuse....

This is an HD 5770 with the metal back plate,I had to cut the end of the plate off because it wouldn't fit in 1 of my cases like it was.?

I've done some things like that too, sometimes it's needed to make it work :classic_tongue:

This is the back side of the Main system. Not my cleanest job, but the Define 7XL has a lot of room so it's not needed to run everything really clean.
It has been taken apart a few times already, so it started really clean and organized and slowly became messy.

1959288624_main7xlback.thumb.jpg.6a96c27e1144cc3ae90449bae737d206.jpg

The front of "The Office", the little fan is there to support the 3090 :classic_laugh:
I never took the time to hide the third 8pin cable. I've been swapping/adding/removing cards to this system a lot, that's why the other 2 8pin cables are twisted and messy.

1759673842_theofficefront.thumb.jpg.7d34a9b366315b948a6ae040090a6828.jpg

And the back side, way less room on this Meshify 2 case compared to the 7XL. So the cables are spread out to be able to close the back panel.

Again not the cleanest, but I know myself and how easy I can decide to switch out hardware between my systems so I'm not going to clean that up.

[edit]

And as some of you may notice, I'm a Fractal Design and Corsair fanboy :classic_love:

Damn, all very fancy looking except for that fan under the GPU. Have you ever thought about getting something like this:

Amazon.com: StarTech.com Expansion Slot Rear Exhaust Cooling Fan with LP4 Connector (FANCASE), Black: Electronics

Amazon.com: GDSTIME Graphic Card Fans, Graphics Card Cooler, Video Card Cooler, PCI Slot Dual 90mm 92mm Fans, VGA Cooler: Computers & Accessories

Amazon.com: E-outstanding 1-Pack Dual Fan Mount Rack PCI Slot Bracket for Video Card DIY Support 9cm/12cm Fan Computer Radiator Holder: Computers & Accessories

I wouldn't be surprised if the 3000 series brings PCI fans back into style.

I have a few of those Bykski videocard support brackets by the way, but that's not installed because of the hardware changes.

A single 3090 is alright for now, maxing out at about 48°C over ambient with 470w powerdraw. Inside the case it's not really needed to supply extra air to the card, the 3 fans on the cooler are pretty big and the heatsink is massive. Both those systems are positive pressure with dustfilters on all the intake fans which I clean once every 2 weeks. I do like that dual fan setup though, I'll keep that one in mind if I ever run into overheating problems!

I had a getto mounted exhaust fan on the dual 5700xt setup to suck away the hot air through the slot openings and 2 fans inside to feed the coolers, made a pretty big difference! Something like the CM ATCS 840 box with a fan on it.

Was that one of those 5770's that had the bracket for Macs?

I have a couple 5770's still and they were just bare PCB on the back.

It came installed in my Dell XPS 8300. I should have gone with the nvidia card they offered, but I just waited and upgraded to a gtx 970 on that and used the 5770 on my xeon build before I got a nvidia card for it. ? It's the back that kinda looks like it's a carrying handle on the end.lol

Edit: I found a pair of them for sale just now on ebay for $60.00 lol here's a pic from there...
