Researchers develop an injectable, microscopic chip to monitor physiological conditions

Recommended Posts

The implantable chip, fabricated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, is as small as a dust mite and can only be viewed under a microscope. It consumes a total volume of less than 0.1 cubic millimeters and rather than using traditional RF communications links, the team is relying on ultrasound to power and communicate with it wirelessly.

This is something I have been waiting to become a reality. Some excellent applications but certainly a technology that should have proper checks and balances.

Sounds like you have some specific interest in this. Care to elaborate? Why has this been on your radar?

Nothing out of interest other than I can see the useful application of the technology, I think we have all seen one sci-fi film or another putting this sort of technology into practice, so I always knew it would likely become a reality. Could be very useful for those with conditions that could be monitored more in real-time and accurately.

Monitoring blood sugar. In real time. And having it sync up to the pump to adjust basal dosage. Not that it isn't possible atm, but this would make it less cumbersome.
