I was just reading the workings of W11 internally and boy oh boy... it sounds like it's not a great move forward.  But, with the theme of 'on the go' can we expect better W11 mobile devices to supplant say, Apple or Android?

 

It all sounds like they're expecting W11 to be embedded on devices far beyond desktops.  I see this as a rapid deployment of W11 workspace for exactly what other articles have suggested - the streamlined 'snappiness' is available to those even on virtual desktop environments.  Signage, ad displays, vehicles, and on and on where tech can intercede in life. 

 

But, am I thinking too far out yet?  It seems to me given current MS track record that if it is what it seems to me, then we're in for a lot of broken promises, devices, and badly implemented inter connectivity (with the non-digital world) over the next 5 years.

 

Then again, if it's a move back to hardware based prioritizing instead of web-based apps and 'make everything work everywhere regardless of hardware', this could be the other thing and really really really good for creative/gaming/hardware acceleration in the near future.  Akin to the leaps of performance form 1999 to 2009 and so forth in hardware.

I didn't realize there were gains this high for gaming. Maybe I'll have to install windows 11 myself...

I think a lot of the Windows 11 performance features will come into affect until RTM. I mean, I am just looking forward to Direct Storage which is coming later on. I guess with anything, we have to wait for it to mature a little.

 

Im on Win 11 now as my daily driver...im impressed thus far with it. I wish the left click context menu was not this minimal version where you have to click again to get what we all consider to be the proper menu but I bet there will be a tweak later on to adjust that.

I hate that I can't move the taskbar. I usually keep mine on the left, having it on the bottom again feels so weird! I found a registry edit that lets me move the taskbar but it doesn't really work when it's set to the side, presumably that's why they don't have this feature enabled right now.

I'm looking at this chart, but the bar graphs are identical for 10/11, I don't see what they are talking about here.

You're right, I misread the graph when I first looked at it. Skimmed it too hard I guess. I have seen other benchmarks that show a difference though.
 

 

This video shows a small but tangible difference in most of the games tested.

Even if its not, you can get tools to customise. I know Start11 is one of them, though unsure if it will allow you to relocate the taskbar to the top of the screen.

In windows 8 programs that changed the start menu were a huge security issue. Almost every time I had a customer with a virus on win8 it was from a custom start menu program. I hope that won't be the case with 10.

Yeah there is a lot of malware claiming to be a tweaking piece of software. I know lots of people who would get caught out by that years ago, nothing changes lol.
