Battlefield 2042 One of Steam's Worst-Reviewed Games, While It's One of Its Most Played

A rough launch for Battlefield 2042 has seen it become one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam in a little over a week. News of the game's poorly-received start to life comes despite it also being one of the platform's most-played titles since its launch.

Most people have probably already heard about this, but news has been slow lately so posting this anyway. I like that this article actually points out that the game is popular despite the reviews. I believe it has been the top selling game on steam since it launched despite the reviews.

Personally I think the reviews are totally overblown. I've seen a lot of complaints about things being removed that were not actually removed and just a lot of general misunderstanding and misinformation about the game. In my experience it has some bugs but otherwise plays pretty well, feels a lot like BF4 but bigger.

My gripe is that players on both teams look the same..which I'm guessing opens the door to sell skins.

Yea definitely a fair point. Doesn't bother me much personally but I agree they are oddly similar for a game like this.

The most common but for me is the reload message not going away after reloading.

I've only played one game/mode yet - exactly one - 'Breakthrough'.  Though I am a seasoned vet of FPS games, I have great hopes for this game and hope it does not descend into some COD clone/knockoff.  I like COD too, but we need a little bit of it all - Apex, CS, BF, COD etc.

But I AM ROOTING.. (though it'll NEVER happen)... for a UT reboot. C'mon dreams, come true!

Oh my god a UT reboot would be amazing. I still play UT3 from time to time.

Not managed to get to it yet. A couple of friends said it wasn't what they expected, in a bad way.

I would also love a UT reboot, played more of that than any other  multiplayer.

I have played every PC BF game except bf5 (tried it, didn't like that they avoided doing any well known maps/battles). To me 2042 plays extremely similar to 3/4 and if you liked those games there is no substantial reason not to like 2042. Bugs are a legitimate complaint, but even on that front I'm not having many issues. Perhaps part of the disappointment is that it's too similar to 4 and therefore doesn't feel all that new.

Everytime I start playing I end up playing for hours. It does take a while to get the map flow down and maybe people have up too soon due to early bugs.

I think people are also forgetting how bad bf4 was at launch too.

i had quite a few friends who play the game as a group who say they have had a huge amount of problems. anything from directional sound on 5.1/7.1 issues reloading guns where the animation happens but you're still empty and get massacred.

a couple have had in game complains of random latency spikes in multiplayer on fiber connections, along with random hard crashes some within 5 minutes, some 4 hours into gameplay.

i've chose to steer clear as im more into WW2/vietnam time period games than i am the modern stuff. but from what im hearing theres alot of work to be done.

arent we all just sick of companies releasing half baked games and expecting the end-users to beta test?

Definitely a fair complaint but at least 2042 is pushing the boundary.

in a way yes. but we also need to think about the reprocussions. as long as people pre order or buy a game day one. this will continue to be the norm. because devs go "ah they already paid for it, we can fix it later" and throw it out on the release date because thats what they promised the consumer. id rather see them push back a couple months and do playtesting and some form of QC. gone are polished games we used to get.

Definitely no argument here. Still I'm not going to deny myself enjoyment from a new game in my favorite PC series. Bf1942 is what got me into PC gaming.

Also I think it has improved substantially since it released already.
