As knowledge workers, including software engineers, shifted to remote work during the pandemic, officials expressed concern that productivity would suffer as a result. Evidence on this is mixed, but especially in the software industry, remote working has exacerbated the many challenges that employees already face. According to a 2021 Garden survey, most developers found the slow feedback loop a source of frustration during the software development process, second only to difficult communication between teams and functional groups. Seventy-five percent said the time they spend on specific tasks is time wasted, suggesting it could be put to more strategic use.

Very disconcerting, they should stop treating all jobs like sales jobs, every job is different, and some of them there isn't a clear cut criteria on what is productive and what isn't. Like as long as the job gets done, more problems are solved than created, what's the problem?

I have never believed that productivity = Someone working constantly balls to the wall. Productivity should not be measured solely by time spent.
