Doesn't specifically have to be an HQ file, just whatever pushes the speakers a bit more than your typical music.

192k mp3 I think is what the "HD" youtube has for quality, or somewhere around there.  You're right, its not the greatest by any means, but its at least listenable.  Personally, I grew up with the mp3 boom.  It hit right when I was really getting into speakers and music.  So sadly, my ears are accustomed to it.  I do still enjoy a good vinyl though too, sadly haven't gotten to experience one of those in like 20 years though.

 

Here's one of my favorites to play with for excursion of subwoofers.   You won't hear the low notes in this.  I believe the "peaks" are at 17Hz and 7Hz respectively with the main bass note being somewhere around 30Hz-36Hz.

This is my go-to test track for bass too. A couple things I'll say about this and my Rythmik D15SE: I've listened to other tracks where I felt it in my chest, but this may be the only track I've ever played on the D15SE where I felt the bass between my ears. To others reading this thread, that is not the same as hearing it.

 

Also, with this playing at slightly uncomfortable levels indoors and standing outside in the yard between my neighbor's house and mine: nothing. Can't beat single-family/detached house living.

It totally depends on the setup I've noticed too.  To be honest, my Honda seemed to do best with a remake of Melanie Martinez's Carousel.  Song absolutely BANGED in that car with dual Dayton Ultimax 10's off about 2500-2700w RMS.  In my SUV though, with three of those subs and a measured 2744w to them, it tended to do better in the 40Hz range.

In a home setup though, especially if its tuned correctly for home theater, those subsonic notes SHOULD be present, and they should be felt and not heard.  I wish I had a proper home setup lol.  Stupid apartment.

Note:  This is clearly not "high quality" music.  This is most definitely a good subwoofer test though if your setup can extend to 26Hz.

I'll listen to the above one tomorrow.  Doesn't look like my style, but I'm kinda getting tired of listening to the same 90's electronica / pop and 90's and older rock I've listened to for 30 years now.  Maybe I'll look up some classical stuff tomorrow too.  

 

For now (thx for bumping the thread, I forgot about it and I like differing music)......I'd like to leave everyone with this one.  Very interesting story if you read into the making of this song.  It was made in the 90's to be a "coming down" song for the 90's raves, supposedly to help people drive home safely and would be played at the end of the night.  Fun random fact, I used to listen to it as a child when I'd have headaches and it'd make my headache go away.  Not even joking.  I just thought that was interesting and perhaps suiting into the theme of the thread too?  Probably a better song than the rebassed junk I listed earlier.......

Oh yea, def not my style either. I'm not sure you guys couldn't handle my style.   This is just a very good audio track with talented artists.

I know we already have a music thread. That one is for music you actually like and would listen to IMO, this one for stuff that's more stand out audio style and less something you would casually listen to.

YouTube won't allow embedding. Everyone with a car system was banging this in '95.

 

As for my home stereo setup, I call it my Retro-Modern hifi because I have an Asus monitor attached to a Raspberry Pi running Kodi and it streams my music off my rig running Linux with Samba. I have a remote for it but it is also possible to control via a phone. (See attached pic at the bottom)

 

System is a Pioneer SX-255R receiver with 100w per channel connected to the back of a Polk Audio PSW-505 12" subwoofer which just passes it through to two Technics SB-A32 floor standers. They have a 1" tweeter, a 2.5" midrange and two 8" woofers per cabinet.

 

The PSW-505 stock speaker blew the 2nd time I used it. So, per the suggestion of pioneerisloud I got a CT Sounds Tropos 12" car sub rated to handle 600w and threw that in. However I ran into some issues with wiring it at first (the PSW-505 amp puts put 300w) as the sub is dual voice coil. I eventually figured it out and its wired in series at 150w, 8ohms per voice coil. I used 14 gauge wire inside and soldered the wires to the amp, and gorilla glued the sub in place after dremeling out some of the wood on the enclosure as the sub didn't quite fit.

 

The subs low pass filter even works but the lowest it goes is 60Hz. It can still hit low bass notes well in songs like DJ Drama Love for Money.

 

As for the rest of the components, Denon DCD-560 CD player with dual Burr Brown DACs, Kenwood graphic equalizer up top, Technics late 80s quality dual tape deck. Tapes btw sound really good on this stereo, I have some tapes of classical music like Mozart and Dvorak that my deceased Uncle Pete made in 1985 and sent to my dad, they sound great with very little typical tape hiss even without Dolby NR on. You would almost think they were playing from a CD.

 

And thats about it except I'm dreading the day the laser in the CD player gives out, components need to be recapped etc. Anyway the setup bangs and sounds great with all types of music, I can play bass music or rap on the sub as loud as I want and it vibrates everything upstairs lol.

 

Hope this post isn't too long but I'm pretty proud of my work on this thing.

Not exactly what UltraMega was asking for in the thread, but dude....I had that receiver's bigger brother years and years ago, the SX-585R I think it was.  135w RMS x7 @ 8ohm and up to 350w RMS x7 at 2ohm.  For an old system brought new again, that is an amazing looking setup for 2.1!  Love what you did with XBMC too.  I use Plex myself for my own personal media collection.  I do miss XBMC though, I might give it another go again soon just to try something new again.  I could just imagine banging your head to some old Def Leppard or ACDC or something else with that setup!

Haha thank you. Yeah I baby it pretty well and dust the components and speakers, speaker grills (not shown) etc. You should see the wiring behind it in the cabinet though, its anything but clean. Tbh I wouldn't mind selling it and getting a modern 5.1 setup for my living room with the 77" LG OLED and PS5/Switch but with how cramped the area is with couches and side tables plus little room in the tv stand for a receiver, its not really doable.

 

Also Chickenheads by Project Pat didn't come out til 2001 on his album Mista Don't Play. There's better songs from that album like Cheese and Dope or We Can Get Gangsta. Nah in 95 around here it was Do or Die as well as the TRU song No Limit Soldiers that I heard coming from cars.

Damn, your right, I was way off. TBH I just googled 95 playlist and it was there. I never bothered to check further LOL. I do remember East vs West though. Luniz, I got 5 on it. Anything Tupac/Biggie. Bone Thugz E.1999 Eternal.

All great stuff especially Bone E.1999. That album is a masterpiece. Not a single bad track.

 

Same is true for Tupac All Eyez On Me and Makaveli. Biggie's Ready to Die too.

 

Project Pat's first album was Ghetty Green I think but I don't think it (or most of the Three Six stuff) was popular til 97 or so.
