65W would be quite a bit less but likely is just what AMD's products need. The 7700X, which has a TDP of 105 watts. So far, the Ryzen 7000 series has been using a lot of power. The 7900X and 7950X even use up to 170 watts.Ryzen 5600X and 5700X, on the other hand, had a TDP of 65 watts, while the high-end 5900X and 5950X models went up to 105 watts.

 

We still do not know how much the performance of the rumoured Ryzen 7700 will be different from that of the 7700X.

If true, this could be a real winner for anyone who wants to avoid an increase to their power bill.

Hoping for prices on the 7700x, AM5 board, and DDR5 RAM to be somewhere in the realm of "reasonable" by Christmas.  Current pricing is absolutely gross, not even remotely interested when its a $900 upgrade just for those 3 parts (3x higher than it used to be).  It really wasn't that long ago you could get a good RAM kit for $50 ish, board for $100, and a good mid range CPU for around $150.  I know that's unreasonable wishful thinking today, but somewhere between that and $900 would be appreciated.  

 

The 7700 65w does look interesting.  I'll wait till some people like us get their hands on them to say for sure.  I'd think the 7700X would likely perform much much better.  But....if its like the Ryzen 3600 vs the 3600x, then it very well could be a huge winner.  I was happy to take the 100MHz PBO loss on my 3600.

Don't forget a new cooler with these things. I really don't know what AMD was thinking with AM5. Preserving cooler compatibility with AM4 sounds good on paper, but in practice resulted in too many compromises that ironically make the thermals worse, like having the thicker IHS to maintain overall height with AM4.

 

Just my opinion, but I find Zen 4 and the overall platform to be a dud. I will be interested to see what they end up doing with Zen 4 3D though. Now that 13th gen has dropped, and presumably these are coming in sooner this cycle (I heard Q1 next year), should be an interesting matchup, and maybe by then platform costs will be better.

This would be pretty sweet if it was like first gen Ryzen.  I jumped on the 1700, threw it under water, OC'd it, and then it magically turned itself into an 1800xX :)

I think a Zen4C on AM5 will be kind of cool too.

 

Zen4C is rumored to be the same as Zen4. However it has half the L3 and lower clock speeds. So maybe they will use Zen4C with a GPU chiplet to make an APU.
