We value your input here Shawn, you know that. You can absolutely offend people by sharing your views in an articulate manner they may not like. Just try to do it in a more elegant, non-abrasive way and you're golden.

Yup.  I'm curious to know what he had to say about modern cases to be honest.  If other people don't like it, screw em.  Isn't that the point of the thread titled, "Modern computer cases are going to hell"? 🙂

Yeah, and I will be the first to admit there are plenty of people that have been at odds with me over my case selections over the years. Bottom line, if you are happy with it, that's all that really matters at the end of the day. TBH the case industry, if you can call it that, has come a long way since just 10 years ago. For a long time is was basically function over form, and now, each individual / builder has literally thousands of selections on tap to choose from to make it their own.

Sadly this case is no longer available, otherwise I would be using it with my next build.

Yup.  It's like, okay you drive a Honda Civic.  Who cares?  Oh, you drive a Ferrari?  Okay, again, who cares?

Cases are the ONE point in a build where you HAVE to look at it everyday.  YOU have to live with your case, not me.  Doesn't mean I can't criticize the Honda Civic for not being fast or being too ricey or whatever.  But that's part of the criticism you open yourself up to when you post what you've got.  If I had a Honda Civic, I'd fully expect people to rip into me for it.  People rip into my FWD one wheel peel Jeep.  I don't care.....its mine and I love it, and that's what matters.  Same rule applies for cases. 🙂

Now where's Michael at with the popcorn?  :lachen:

I think classic cases and I think of things like the Antec 300/900. Good times.

But we've definitely moved past the era where stacks of hard drives/cages block the main air intakes. I guess now that's been replaced by radiators for many, but still you get my drift.

This one stung lol.   I think classic cases and I think of Antec SOHO and Lian LI PC-60....  now I feel old.

Still?  No lol.  I scored the SOHO BNIB "new old stock" on ebay a while back, and the PC-60 was a rescue from a computer repair shop locally.  When the weather gets better, I get the lovely joy of sanding the PC-60, and re-graining it because its got some massively deep and bad scratches on it.  Wanna sell some of those beauties? 😄  LOL  No, don't answer that, I have enough. -_-

Back on topic:
There's some modern cases that are pretty good.  I can honestly say the HAF 700 was a joy to build in.

Ooof restoring it will be a worthwhile endeavor assuming you have something to live in it that can survive with 3 80mm fans.      I'd only come off one if I was trading for one of the ones on my want list (PC-V750B or PC-V1000LB)...

There are some hideous modern cases, but in general they're easier to build in.  The big difference is they're purpose designed instead of the 1size fits all of 5-10+ years ago.   I bought that same RGB rosewill case and it was okay to build,  I've also got an 011D I picked up cheap locally that is definitely specifically designed for use with an AIO or custom loop, however it was truly enjoyable to build.

Nice collection & trip down memory lane ! 😀

...I recently dug around in the companies' store room and came up with this old monster server case (w/ ABitIC7 and Zalman flower cooler inside). The server case itself is about 25 years old and the top cover is off as it contains a separate compartment for a 2nd PSU. We have four of these server cases that ran our software business back in the day and each weighs a ton but can support upwards of 400 pounds of weight on top w/o flexing as it is really thick metal gauge.

...too bad about the 'institutional beige-yellow' colour scheme of those years. After a much-needed cleaning, I might get it powder-coated for a future build project.  Also, I have to remember to be careful as in those days, the sharp edges of the interior would cut your hand instantly...

But it was a tribute to my father because it was the last computer (using the same case) we both put together, years prior.

So I went hunting around the interwebs to find literally ONE coolermaster case remaining in stock in an effort to replicate the original build.

Hey thanks for the compliment! Not really much of a follower, so yeah, I did something a little different. in point of fact I put a lot of time effort and energy into making nearly 1000mm of radiator work in a case never designed for anything larger than a 120mm fan. lol

...given the 'heavy metal' (literally) of the old server case I posted earlier and also this one, I am thinking that it would make a great skeleton for a custom build ...apart from HD Dremel wheels, the only real cost would be a custom tempered glass front, or may be thick acrylic...I bet I could load that thing up with 2x ATX and 2x ITX mobos for a 'quad' build project 👀
