For the last couple of months and even as of right now, I'm targeting the cheaper of the 7900 or 7900X, but I'll be looking forward to when the reviews for these come out to see if either the 7800X3D or 7900X3D can make a good case for my needs. I guess the 7800X3D and 7900(X) aren't really typical targets for cross-shopping if you consider the use cases of the 5800X3D and 5900X, but I do both gaming and production to varying degrees. Either one will be so far ahead of this i7-2600K regardless that I probably can't go wrong either way.

I'm also curious to see how the Windows scheduler will handle the 79x0X3D SKUs. Microsoft seems hellbent on moving people to Windows 11 and I wouldn't be surprised if they withhold any updates needed to optimize the 79x0X3D CPUs from Windows 10.

@UltraMega What you think?  Am not too sure about that one.

Amd just confirmed the release while the older thread was on rumour mill.

I normally leave the rumour thread to die and post in hardware New when it officially coming.

These two threads can coexist naturally, and don't completely overlap. The thread with the newest AMD news is this thread. Category is not too important, they all cycle through the news section the same way.

Yeah this 5800x3d runs pretty damn hot for a freakin 4.3ish sustained gaming chip.  I have a feeling these new ones won't run any higher GHz while gaming.

Interesting they are withholding the 7800X3D until April. Must be a business move. I imagine that's what most of the gamers waiting for these actually want, but perhaps they are hoping they can sway enough that were waiting for that over to a 7900X3D.

Anyway, will be interesting to see how these shape up. I am especially curious to see how Windows scheduling handles the dual CCD SKUs as they only have one of them with the 3D v-cache.

Definitely still interested to see how these perform. I was planning on getting a 7900X3D before I heard about the CCD mismatch. Ended up grabbing a normal 7900x for now and will probably hop on the 3D bandwagon when 9900X3D or whatever they call the next one comes out.

Hey all,

I am in the process of researching a gaming build for my son, who is currently stuck on an 8GB ram, Sandy Bridge 2500 with an Nvidia 750Ti.

I had been bouncing the idea around of waiting till April to check out the 7800X3D. I think perhaps the OS related simplicity (Linux) of 8 standard cores and the cost savings of a 7700 makes more sense.
