I just ordered the 7900X3D, have it, getting the Rog Strix X670E Gaming, and an H150i because my current cooler is very thick and the fans won't clear the upper VRM heatsink on the board (midtower case).

 

I just have a question about the X3D- is the extra L3 cache accessible and connected to the faster CCD (that boosts up to 5.6 GHz)?

Good question. I am not sure. If it does, it will take a latency penalty having to cross the infinity fabric I would imagine.

I mean, I imagine it would be as the other CCD is locked to 4.4 GHz, from what I understand.

Vcache is on slower CCD, but it doesn't matter much. It is technically accessible via the other CCD but induces a latency penalty.

 

Windows so far has been very good at making things prefer the CCD0 (with vcache) without any fuss. Memory timings has been a bit of a fuss for me, but just going bit-by-bit.

 

ASUS, as expected, has too high voltages for things. So make sure you double check them, my SOC/VDD MISC was way to high and had to reduce it to 1.25v / 1.35v respectively. Also benefits more power for the cores that way.

Thanks, I'll be sure to look into those voltages since I am getting the Asus ROG Strix X670E Gaming. Already have the 7900X3D. Board should be here tomorrow and I'm waiting on a H150 cooler I ordered on Ebay to arrive. (current cooler won't clear the top VRM heatsink of the new board- it's a thick rad) My mother in law is coming this weekend, and next weekend is the big foldathon, so I might be waiting 3 weeks til the weekend of the 25th to be able to rebuild my rig. Need wife's help to do so and probably can't do it all on my own because of pain.

 

I could use some advice though. The one (and biggest) thing I'm worried about with this rebuild is getting the current small heatsink off of my NVMe drive. When we originally put this together and put the drive in, it had a really really sticky thermal pad thing on the back of it. What's the best way to get this off and not ruin my boot drive? I intend to keep the same Win10/Linux Mint installs that are on that drive and really don't want to break it trying to pull off that thermal pad. Should I heat it up with a hair dryer and then wear gloves and it'll peel off easier?

 

Edit: Also, does anyone have a video or a guide to totally removing the VRM heatsinks on the board I'm getting, or a similar Asus board? If I did, I'd be able to fit and use my vastly superior Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 instead of the stupid H150 with RGB on it and a bunch of cables coming off of it. Since my rig is full RGB I'd need to connect the Corsair link cable to make the block match the rest of my LEDs and fans (synthwave cyan and magenta)

Got the Asus ROG Strix X670-E Gaming, a 7900X3D, and G.skill Flare X DDR5 6000. Now OC'ed to 6200MHz CAS 30 with 1.435v. Also changed cooler to a H150i because my Arctic Liquid Freezer wouldn't fit and clear the two 8 pin EPS connectors or the top VRM heatsink. But my wife did a wonderful job cable managing the cooler.

 

Yes it is the kit that Microcenter is giving away, however I bought it from Amazon because my previous setup had Flare X that was also amazing. I still have no clue what the dies are on it other than they are Samsung.

Upgraded from 9900K @ 5.15GHz 0AVX 1.304v. The smoothness in FPS games is unreal.

 

7800X3D (SP96) DR5=6400 FCLK=2200 ECLK=102 MULT=50.5X BOOST=5151MHz

Found something even more failure-prone than AIDA64 SHA3 -- CPUZ (v2.06) AVX2 (v19.01.64) and AVX512 (v19.01.64).

CO -25 was passing 20x+ SHA3 runs, LinPackExtreme, y-cruncher.

Run CPU-Z AVX2 or AVX512 benchmark = insta reboot.

Retuned each core with Process Lasso and arrived at:

-20*/-20/-15/-20/-20/-20/-15/-20

 

Performance Test 10.2 brutality on an Alpha Core1 waterblock and SuperNova radiator:

Let the Ryzen X3D fun begin !!! I'm also having a blast with a Ryzen 7950X3D and Aorus X670E Master (which btw has asynchronous / eclk but not trying that yet). In any case, check out this vid by Buildzoid (and similar ones in his channel. Also, Skatterbencher has some wild OC stuff on his channel - check both channels out because apart from the two vids below, they have many more on the theme .

 

I only just finished the basic setup yesterday but wow, those X3D chips really make a difference in many games (and even some benches) 😁

I had initially followed the Skatterbench ECLK+CO method and did get 107ECLK working well, gaming, compiling stuff, and then I ran AIDA64 SHA3... insta BSOD. I had to lower ECLK all the way down to 102.5 before the BSOD's stopped.  After re-tuning with CPU-Z AVX2 and AVX512, I'm now at 102 with per-core CO's.

 

Take Skatterbench and Buildzoid with some salt on this...

...very true re. picnh of salt- 'caution is the mother of the crate full of porcelain' as some say (probably lost some in translation).

 

Both Skatterbencher and Buildzoid often tell you not to just copy their settings helter-skelter w/o thorough testing. Still, for my purposes, Buildzoid's vid on DDR5 8000 on a Gigabyte Tachyon were invaluable as a starting point. I happen to have a very similar 2x 24 GB DDR5 kit,and the Gigabyte bios organization between Tachyon and Master is 'similar'...I mostly had Asus mobos over the last decade (work, productivity) so I know Asus bios by heart, Gigabyte and MSI 'not so much'. In addition, this is my first time with DDR5...

What memory do you have, E?

 

I have some really good timings I could share for B-Die and 6000MHz-6400MHz cas 30. These timings may work for other kits/Hynix memory too.

 

You can also run higher Infinity Fabric clocks on Zen 4 too, I run mine at 2100MHz with 1.25v SoC voltage.

Try these timings and speed for your memory. The person I got these timings from was able to do 6400MHz but on my system, it was extremely unstable. So I run 6200 instead.

 

My system passed 4 hour of memtest86 as well as 4 hours of GSAT with these so its rock solid stable.

Both Skatterbencher and Buildzoid often tell you not to just copy their settings helter-skelter w/o thorough testing. Still, for my purposes, Buildzoid's vid on DDR5 8000 on a Gigabyte Tachyon were invaluable as a starting point. I happen to have a very similar 2x 24 GB DDR5 kit,and the Gigabyte bios organization between Tachyon and Master is 'similar'...I mostly had Asus mobos over the last decade (work, productivity) so I know Asus bios by heart, Gigabyte and MSI 'not so much'. In addition, this is my first time with DDR5... 

For sure, I used both of their vids as starting points and learning material.  Most of Buildzoid's RAM settings worked for me 😉

1.35V for the 2x 24 GB kit, which is what it is nominally rated at (so no extra juice - for now )

I have a 2x16 kit of G.skill Flare X B-Die and for my current overclock (6200MHz cas 30, see what I posted above), it needs 1.435v.

 

I am wondering what kit you have, maybe I'll pick it up if it's not too expensive.

 

I will probably try your timings tomorrow, and leave the voltage at 1.435v and see if it does it.
