Radeon RX 7700 XT
The Radeon RX 7700 XT, another Navi 32 variant, has a 54 CU/3456 shader processor setup, bolstered by 12GB memory on a 192-bit bus running at 18 Gbps. This design suggests a Navi 32 version with one of the four MCDs deactivated, leading to 48 MB of Infinity Cache. Notably, the core configuration of the RX 7700 XT is designed to contain approximately 54 Compute Units, which accommodates a sum of 3456 stream processors. The USD pricing is $449, which is close to 499 euros. Guru3D will be releasing reviews once the embargo lifts on September 6th.

Pirces seem reasonable. I suspect the 7700XT will come down in price like the 7900XT did.

More branding shenanigans.

 

The 6800XT was a 72 CU part (4608 stream processors) on the bigger Navi 21 chip. The 7800XT, presumably its name sake replacement is 60 CU (3840 stream processors) on the second tier Navi 32 chip. At least the price makes sense and they aren't trying to pass it off as a $600-$700 card like Nvidia would.

While yes, you are correct, you're also forgetting there's an extra card this go around.  Last gen it was the 6900XT as top dog, then 6800XT (the 6950XT was a refresh released way later).  This gen its 7900XTX, then 7900XT, THEN the 7800XT.  So in all fairness you could about equate it to the 6700XT of last gen instead.  I do agree with your point though, its the x8xx part number, they should keep those x8 series chips as is.  AMD has been doing this for quite some time as well I'm afraid.  It's typical marketing to sell more cards, that's all it is.  AMD started doing this type of naming scheme changes as soon as they took over in the ealier HD series days.  Not defending the practice at all, just saying its been relatively normal for AMD to do this.

With Nvidia's mistake on their lower tiered RTX 4000 series, that was a different type of fiasco.  I'd almost say similar to the 660Ti from years ago.  Obviously cut down dies of an x50 or x60 sized card, trying to pass off as a high end 4080 which actually was following their last gen naming scheme, or the 4070Ti and lower 4060Ti.  AMD is not 100% following last gen's naming scheme though, Nvidia is.  

Either way, both companies suck for misleading consumers in such manners. -_-

I'm a bit curious to see how the 60 CU part fairs against the competition and current used market but at a glance, I don't expect these cards to do anything to change the current sentiment of SKIP.

 

If the $/frame is decent, that would be nice but since the RTX 4090 / 7900 XTX release, the whole generation has been slanted towards complacency.

 

Spend more, get more. Not the ol' approach of wait, spend same, get more. Intel is getting into better shape every day. Really curious to see how their next (battlemage) gen releases to shake of the upper mid range.

See this is where the "XTX" for the 7900 just didn't make sense. They could have just called it the 7900XT with the current 7900XT being called the 7900 or even 7800XT, while this 7800XT would be perfect as the 7800.

Right?  No I agree, the "XTX" this round doesn't make sense.  Especially since that didn't leave AMD any room at all for releasing a "Ti" variant later like they did last gen with the 6950XT, unless they're planning on doing a 7950XTX or something.

Oddly enough, as far as AMD goes, this reminds me a LOT of ATI's X1k series cards from a decade+ ago, the last DX9 cards.  X1800XT was originally the top dog card, then Nvidia came out with the GF 7900, then ATI released the X1900XT.  Then Nvidia responded, then ATI came out with the X1950XT, then the X1950XTX.  Meanwhile THAT generation, the x1800 was originally the "top dog" card.

IMO the reason we have such weird naming this gen on the upper end is because AMD and Nvidia didn't want to stop selling last gen cards as the mid range option until stock piles cleared out. That's why Nvidia did the whole 4080 12GB thing at first, and it's why AMD named the 7900xt and xtx the way they did.

Yeah I think there is definitely a lot of that for sure. AMD really had tons of Navi 21 to still sell off. Same as Nvidia with GA104/106.

Benchmarks are out. Not much to talk about. The 7800XT sits right between the RX6800XT and the 6900XT.

 

The 7700XT sits right above the RX6800.

Sounds about right, misbranding confirmed.

 

I guess also tricky with how much oversupply they had of 6800, 6800XT, 6900XT, 6950XT cards which were already hitting those lower prices.

I hear you, but it's a bad trend for both brands. I long for the days where they factory tuned these cards for descent power draw and leaving a nice chunk of OC headroom instead of slamming the clocks up nearly to the silicon limit.
