I think the event itself went totally fine and was lots of fun (minus the constant WU outages, but we can't fix that). My only curiosity is how prizes can be distributed a bit better, but not sure it can really be "fair".

 

Simmons for example put up a phenomenal amount of points, nearly 30 million, but some of us managed to come close to him in raffle entries with 1/10 of his point output or less. I think I put out 2 million and got more than 1/3 of the WUs simmons got. Obviously good news for me, but bad for a guy with a mega rig!

 

That said, if you go for points alone, then people with the high end folding rigs would win every single raffle.

 

Not really staging a complaint, just thinking out loud.

 

I'm sure I've answered my own question in that there's no way to distribute things more cleanly.

We decided not to do it by overall points just for the reason you mentioned as it means people with super rigs would clean up all the time which is Uber unfair. The only other metric to use was the WU count, granted we could of just put everyone's name in once into the hat, but that does not spur any meaningful competition.

 

The fun value and friendly competition is what makes these giveaways enjoyable and ensures we make the best of it contribution wise to the cause

 

Just as an FYI I always use a name picker for fair picking. I use Wheel Of Names, great tool as after spinning to pick a winner you can then auto delete those entries in one go so when you next spin you don't end up with the same name again lol

I'm sure there is a way you could also split up GPU resources with like a VM or something or maybe just natively with two folding installs or one In a sandboxie.

You can indeed skew the results by doing that for sure, but you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise it starts to get a little complicated. There are ways of making it super fair, but with that comes super restrictive criteria which is just a massive turn off when it comes to these kinds of events, you have to take the rough with the smooth as they say.

I'm okay with this going by WU since that's not really dependent on high end hardware like raw points output. Just had a look, and out of the top five WU counts, only one of those won a prize. I think there were enough entries to make it enough of a random draw, and there was plenty of time for folks to get in a healthy number of WUs if they really wanted to commit to it.

You could always try to fold half the power or something, to keep it all going.

I know I will once everything will heat up over here.

 

Today I wasn't folding all out, the power went out and I have been working till 11pm.

Oh yea that true man. I can decrease clock and or tdp.

 

Just removed my rx 580.

 

Seem like am the only one having amd driver problem. Both my rx 580 and 5700xt wont spin up the fan on the default profile and just sit at idle and move 1200-1300 rpm max.

 

Just set my 5700xt at 50% fan speed for 60celsius folding a 2060mhz clock.

 

Damn i rmaed my rx 580 thinking it was hardware bug 6 month ago.

 

 

Any idea guy? Red team driver are made by monkey!

If you removed the 580 I'd give the AMD control panel a try.

It works good for me with the 5700xt's although I need to load the settings after each reboot.

And sometimes it doesn't show the right values on the performance page, but I use GPU-Z to check everything and keep an eye on max temps, vcore etc.

Make sure to close MSI Afterburner if you use the AMD control, they don't work together.
