seeing a NPC women twerking on the top of a car isn't really the type of stuff that gets me hyped for a game

or at least it hasnt been since the days of Leisure Suit Larry

It's GTA. It's always been commentary on modern society.

Besides, it's also GTA. If you're driving the car, slam the brakes, mash the accelerator. Problem solved.

To be fair, that was GTA V 1.0 on PS3, wasn't it?

It's crazy that the same game was released for three generations of consoles and the PC version even had some creators making HQ texture packs for it not too long ago. It's been around for so long that I'm not even sure anymore whether I had the 980 Ti or 1080 Ti when I played it.

It looks like they're going to do the typical "will they, won't they" thing with PC as Rockstar confirmed consoles but not PC.

Hopefully the wait for PC isn't too long.

Well, those rumours of them ditching the staggered release date turned out to be false which is unfortunate. This is a good excuse for me to sell my PS4 Pro and pick up a PS5 at some point. I was originally going to buy a PS5 for GT7 when that released, but they were still impossible to find from a retailer and there was no way I was going to pay a scalper more than double the RRP for one on eBay.

A delayed PC release is also good news for me personally. I think my 2070 is really going to struggle with GTA VI when it does release. I don't really want to spend close to £2K on a 4090Ti only to find out that's not going to be able to max it out at 4K 60fps.

As far as the release goes, T2 said they're expecting a huge increase in revenue for their 2024 fiscal year, which ends in April 2025. So it seems like the release date target is March-April 2025, but I do think that's going to get delayed to late 2025-early 2026 with a PC release towards the end of 2027.

Curious what makes you think it will get delayed? It easily could get delayed but since it's Rockstar they probably don't have much pressure to rush development. They've had soooo long to work on this, I'd like to think they will have had plenty of time by the target release window.

History. All previous Rockstar games get announced with a trailer that has a vague release date that's just a year. A few months later, trailer 2 comes out, then between trailer 2 and 3, they announce there's a delay then there's a more specific release date in trailer 3 that's a month and year, than a few weeks after trailer 3 releases, they release the gameplay trailer along with a release date that has the day, month and year. The final release date is almost always 1 year after the initial announcement.

Only exception is GTA VI, but that ran like ass on all platforms and still does. I get better performance in RDR2 than I do in GTA IV. The GTA IV trailers looked like they were running at 15-20fps with huge drops into the single digits at some points.

On the topic of staggered releases, I don't mind that it comes to PC later, I just hate how the don't even mention a PC version.

Gta4 and 5 both were developed for PS3 era hardware, so it at least makes sense that some real work would be involved to get the game running on PC hardware but that's hasn't been true with consoles for a long time and it's less true now than ever before with both consoles basically being PC hardware.

Seems like they do this to get people to double dip, or to buy it for consoles right away since they're unsure it will ever come out on PC and then they buy it again on PC when it eventually does come out. If this tactic leads to more sales, it's no mystery why they do it, but it's a dirty tactic all the same.

The only other reason they would do this is piracy. Presumably if it's not on PC at launch, it's a lot harder to pirate but that doesn't mean they can't at least confirm that it will come to PC eventually.

Just annoying that they do this everytime. I think red dead 1 is the only game that actually didn't come to pc tho.

It's Rockstar.  It's GOING to be delayed.  PC release?  Expect at least a year later.

Did we not learn our lessons with GTA IV, GTA V, and RDR2?  I know I did, and I'll go ahead and say it.  I will not be buying this one.  I want to want it, I do.  I love the GTA franchise.  But Rockstar's burned me too many times.

I'm ok with the pc version being delayed.  We'll end up with the better, more polished version.  With the current state of games these days it seems you have to wait a year after release to get a remotely finished version anyways.  Besides, by then I'll probably have justification to upgrade my 6900XT.

PC version will always be delayed. It’s their financial model at this point. Also get ready for a PS5 Pro / Series X Pro $10 update down the line. Double dip aint enough these days. Gotta triple dip XD.

I am sure they plan to launch a series of micro transactions alongside GTA VI on consoles and in my humble opinion, best to soak console users first before the game is available on PC and exposed to mods.

Also, to their forecast for FY ending March 2025, we could see pre-orders open up during that FY which could account for a large increase in their revenue without actually releasing the game.

Considering that digital sales require a full purchase and roughly account for ~50% of game sales these days, it’s a reasonable assumption.

I am more curious, from a financial perspective, how they will handle the transition of GTA Online. That’s reoccurring revenue paying for their current operations. Obviously you want to approach that transition as smoothly as possible to sustain the revenue.

100% a financial decision, RDR2 was one of their longest staggered launches (>1 year) and it was buggy af on PC's launch.

It's an online service seperate from where ever they show their game sales on their IS and regardless of where you report, rules or principles based, you book the sale when your obligation ends and in this case, they'll report income from GTO V when the user redeems the service and will not book the income for GTO VI until redeemed by the user which will be after release.

One bit of speculation (calling it a rumour gives it way too much credit) is that one of the reasons why GTA VI is taking so long to develop is because of GTA Online.

GTA Online is now a separate game to GTA V. The speculation that I heard say that the reason why it's taking so long to develop is because they're not just remaking the entire state of Florida/Leonida. They're also remaking Los Santos in the new engine and GTA Online is going to have both maps available to avoid a similar thing happening to GTA VI online like what happened with RDR2 Online.

I don't see this happening, but if it does, it's going to be very interesting for the future of GTA Online.

Thanks for the technical response.  I should of been more clear: From an operational standpoint, how they will manage the transition and what impacts there are to their engagement and subsequently, their financials. E.g., Overwatch -> Overwatch 2, CS:GO -> CS2.
