The Extreme HW Game List - 2024 Edition

Quick update: I'll not be updating thread throughout April and into early May. Primarily due to work schedule.

If anyone wants to jump and add posts with any interesting updates, by all means 🙂 Please do so 🙂 If you have any comments for the sheet, you should be able to write them on the sheet directly, and I can QA, adjust accordingly. My schedule (3rd post) broke for some reason. I've deleted it for now, will fix it when I have more spare time. Lower priority.

In other news, there was a very interesting announcement showcase that aired I believe last week. Called the Triple I (iii) Initiative. Basically a play on AAA (definition for $100m+ budget games), but indies. Not sure what to make of the name lol but the games highlighted seem very interesting. Full rundown here:

BLEEDINGCOOL.COM

Earlier this week, the The Triple-i Initiative held a new hour-long livestream showing off new games and updates of indie titles on the way.

I'm gonna drop this here for now while I work out what I want to post about what follows; in the meantime, I recommend not buying any of their recent releases until others have at least had a chance to properly vet them. Probably take a day or so to gather my thoughts:

3D Realms is not your mama's mama's Duke 3D publisher anymore.

...it's not only about 3D Realms.

Man back in the day Duke Nukem 3D was my favorite game!  I had every map memorized, I knew where all the med kits, armor and weapons were.

This was before multi-player games became popular, and there was only dial up modems in my neighborhood.  But the game would allow you to to dial into a friends computer over the modem and you could play with two people.  I just crushed everyone of my buddies I would play against, and they would get so frustrated.

Those were the days!

Old story always brings laughs when we reminisce among our old selves and how we played 1v1 on DN3D, Doom 2. RIOT/Delta Force 2, I think maybe Quake or Hexen, and or other similar FPS games... (friends I grew up with)

One day my buddy calls, I'm not home. Get the note from mom, "**** called, said it's about a school project, better call him back now kid, says you two have it due tomorrow."

I sense the direction this message has been relayed by ****..... I know what's really up. LMAO.

I call him back and he says, "EFF ME.... I'm busted. Grounded for 2 weeks, PC is unplugged 24/7 and I'm only allowed to call you, the school, and **** and ****."

I'm in shock..... (* happened) ............. I ask just that.

"Soooo I didn't know! I didn't know! I thought it was just like regular long distance!? I didn't know playing **** in Germany was; like, more expensive than calling New York, you know we've been battling 1v1. Dad got the ATT bill and it was $1056.46" ....... 🤣

Ok.. so TLDR:

My buddy back then (mid 90's) had NO idea that playing 1v1 via modem over landline to his opponent in Germany (met via BBS) would cost as much as it did, for his nightly sessions, 4 times that week for about 30~40 minutes each session.

Good times. 👍

Hi all, a quick check-in.

I should have a bit more time to come back and revive this thread. I was hoping to be clear ahead of the Summer Games Fest but it was a bit too hectic the past couple months. I'll try to update the sheet within the week and follow up with a larger post with key announcements by next week. Stay tuned 🙂

Quick little update: The sheet with all games previously logged before May have been updated with the relevant dates and/or Metacritic Score.

I need to go through all the announcements over the past few months and add those games to the list. Quick extract of the PC Game list for 2024, ordered by Release Date.

2024-06-21 - Update

Hey! This summer game fest (essentially new E3) was full of announcements. Some being updates to existing games, new games, expansions, DLC etc. etc. I've created a separate page / tab in the same Google Sheet to isolate these announcements. Linked and embedded below.

I've logged over 300 announcements for context... XD Some may be duplicate, like a trailer shown in one event and then a deep dive in a subsequent event. I wont plug everything from this tab into the data tab. As that data focuses on the all the noteworthy titles for 2024. That said, this should help for next year's 2025 list 🙂

Data may be missing at the time of entry (hyperlinks, system info, release dates etc.) but I'll continue to update it!

Black Myth: Wukong (BMW) has now taken the #1 spot on Steam with highest peak concurrent player count for a single player game.

At the time of this writing, Black Myth: Wukong has already become the fourth most concurrently played game in Steam history.
  Quote

Black Myth: Wukong is now the most-played single-player game ever, surpassing both Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. Here’s the all-time list as it stands right now. I’ve already had to change the number earlier in this post because it jumped another 600,000 by the time I’m circling back to this article a few hours later.:

PUBG – 3.257 million players

Black Myth: Wukong – 2.215 million players

Palword – 2.101 million players

Counter-Strike 2 – 1.818 million players

Lost Ark – 1.325 million players

Dota 2 – 1.295 million players

Cyberpunk: 2077 – 1.054 million players

Elden Ring – 953,000 players

Banana – 917,000 players

New World – 913,634

2024-09-17 - Sheet Update

Below is an excerpt of the recent changes made to the sheet. Of course, some of these scores are subject to minor change as reviews still come in. A few games including like Prison Architect 2, Parcel Corps got delays without new release dates (TBA) whilst Phoenix Springs (indie, point and click) got pushed back a few weeks to October 7th.

Other notable updates:

  • Highest rate games from these updates include UFO 50 (PC only) and Astro Bot (PS5 only).
  • Concord does not exist anymore.
  • God of War: Ragnarok is around the corner on PC
  • Final Fantasy XVI released a demo about a month ago, performance was sub-par, they updated the DEMO with better performance, and apparently the release today is tracking well, with solid performance.
  • And if you haven't noticed, a few of the games highlighted are either developed or published by Sony. They're swinging hard on PC and it's well appreciated 🙂

Next month MSFS2024, Stalker 2, and COD:BO6 all come out within a 5-day time span. I'm definitely going to play all three.

It'll be a good week for Xbox. Maybe game pass will finally gain a little traction.

Separately, Could Imperium just dropped an hour of Squadron 42 gameplay.
