The *unofficial* What is your favorite mouse club

Didn't see one of these created yet so I made one. Am also curious to know what your mouse grip style is? And what mouse is your main one?

I have a hybrid claw type grip because I got used to a mouse on a logitech G5 and that's generally the best grip on those. I'm a bit of a die hard cord guy in that I like the simplicity of a wired mouse, notably the new MX518 is a rather good wired mouse and I love mine. Although I did cross over to the dark side and buy a wireless gaming mouse and I do quite like it.

I'm more of a palm gripper myself.

I prefer MMO style mice - but specifically the type that has rows of buttons on the side of the mouse like a Razer Naga or Corsair Scimitar. Though if I'm honest I have found the quality of both of those mice to be lacking in areas, especially the Razer. So wouldn't say I've found the perfect mouse yet, but I definitely prefer those styles as I do in fact use the side buttons for 1-8 skill activations or cycling through tool belt inventory in other games, etc.

I don't really play MMOs much anymore, I just don't have the time, but I still find those buttons useful for a lot of the other games I play.

I've gone through quite a lot of mice over the past 10 years or so, and my favorite I think is the Logitech G604. Can could be found for under $60 (see note below), healthy amount of side buttons, wireless with a really long battery life, sleek and heavy. Literally everything I want in a mouse, and it caters towards my palm grip since I have fairly large hands.

However, when verifying that you could still get it for $60 or so, I found out that you can't get it at all because it was discontinued over a year ago. How massively disappointing and frustrating. My favorite mouse before it was the G700S (so good pick @Avacado), and I went years before finding a replacement I really liked after it developed double click issues.

I have a palm grip.

Desktop: Logitech G502 X Plus

Desktop backup: Logitech MX Master 2S (P1, which I never use)

Laptop: Logitech Performance MX

Work laptop: Logitech MX Master 2S (P2)

NVR/file server: Logitech G MX518 Legendary

Spare: Logitech MX518

In a box somewhere/for office use: Logitech MX510

I swore by the wired MX500 form factor for a long time, but a wired mouse even with a USB extension cable was a real nuisance on my desk which tends to pull the mouse back due to mouse pad positioning and the cable almost immediately going over the edge of the desk, causing me to pull the mouse toward me regularly. What also doesn't help is that I have the MX Master 2S on the same mouse pad during the work day.

What finally got me to look for an alternative to the MX500 family was how the decrease DPI/cruise down button becomes stiff after some time, even on the G MX518 Legendary I bought new about three years ago. I decided I had enough of that and the cord when I built my current rig and went for a G502 X Plus. I've been happy with it so far. I wanted additional customizable buttons without going full MMO style. Other must-haves after experiencing them with the mice I use for work were infinite scrolling and horizontal scrolling. The G502 X Plus and the Razer Basilisk Pro were the only ones that fit the bill, but was I really going to get on board with Razer software when it gets even more hate than Logitech G Hub?

The G502 X Plus and the MX500 family aren't really full palm grip mice, but I'm fine with the heel of my palm being on the desk or mousing surface. What I really can't stand is my fingers touching while using a mouse. I once tried a cheap vertical mouse to see if I would like it and I ended up hating it and returning it because the grip area for the right side of the right hand was too short. It caused my ring and pinky fingers to touch all the time and on top of that, my pinky would rub against the mouse pad too.

Speaking of Logitech, I was actually looking at maybe trying this guy and seeing how that works for me. Premium Platinum - Lifetime

Cooler Master Mastermouse RGB. MM520 I think. I use a claw grip for games sometimes but also a palm grip for desktop Linux use.

mm520_001-image(1).thumb.png.a73d0401639137c4c0c54579f49fa8f7.png

I *love* the ring finger rest on the side. Other people hate it and it confuses them and they end up turning it sideways either direction, kind of like that old Apple original iMac mouse that was a circle.

Me: Right Handed - 'hybrid' claw-palm grip - (MU0053) G MX518 Legend, currently - OG MX518 is my absolute timeless favorite.
I still have mine and my Dad's worn-out OG MX518s 'kicking around'. IIRC, I have replacement microswitches for them too.

The Logi G MX518 Legend (the new one) is an acceptable substitute but, I can't help but feel like there was something 'lower latency' and more accurate about the oldskool MX518.

In a (gaming) mouse, one needs simplicity, responsiveness, and accuracy.

TBQH, I'm really quite irritated at all the 'tech' they cram in mice. Especially for gaming, Mice should be amongst the simplest imaging devices in Sol.

I've not been able to find any mouse (since the OG MX518) that allows *me* 'pixel precision'. The closest I've gotten was bottoming out Windows' mouse sens. + in-game mouse sens., and running (basically) max DPI on the MX518 Legend. Even then, I swear I'm getting intermittent 'tracking errors'. Yes, I clean the sensor's lens/hole out w/ a Q-tip fairly regularly.

I honestly suspect EMI* and/or USBhost issues. (like, being plugged into the 'wrong' USB port, and not realizing it.)

*Where I live, any length of unshielded wire (in open air, connected to something or not), picks up 3-15+VAC, dependent on length and orientation. Sadly, I don't have an osscope to 'see' the waveform.

do have 1st-hand experience w/ what (super)imposed waveform (and voltage) can do to HIDs on a PC:

My Dad's HDTV-Monitor's PSU failed, and sent half-rectified(?) mains current (60VAC measured, using old HP RMS DMM) into his PC's chassis.

Amazingly, it didn't kill anything. However, 'odd behavior' and lots of HID input errors were occurring before the TV was *clearly* showing signs of failure.

(Ended up replacing his HDTV-Monitor w/ a newer Samsung, ordered PSU for TV off fleabay, removed back cover off TV, replaced PSU module, and that 6+yearold 50" Changhong 1080p, continues to serves as my secondary display, today)

I've got an original logitech G5 I bought new from Newegg circa 2005 and it is indeed lower latency than the new MX518. A large part of the appeal of these specific mice to me is the shape as they have a nice solid feel in the hand. That and of course they are as good as it gets 😉

My wireless mouse is a logitech G603 and I bought it specifically to control an android TV box over bluetooth. It's got dual mode you can select either BT or opt to use the fancy lightspeed low latency receiver. Ended up getting a new android TV box and no longer need it for that use so I've been using it via the little dongle on my main desktop and it's a solid contender and holds its own against the mx518 even while being wireless. Similar body shape and size as well.

hybrid grip boi

Logitech M510 Wireless - bought it for $5 on Black Friday in ~2010, used it as my main mouse for 5+ years after my OG MX518 died. Still kicking without any issues. Currently my HTPC's mouse.

Logitech G502 Wired - Has double clicking issues and has been sitting in my desk drawer waiting for switches for half a millennia. Probably will never get them.

Glorious Model D Wired - Works fine (other than frayed cable sleeving) but I don't use it anymore, I got hooked on the wireless train.

Logitech G603 Lightspeed - Originally bought it for my laptop, but ended up becoming my main mouse when my G502 started having issues. No issues yet, but it's getting old and it's about time for it to get double clicking issues

In my "Saved for Later" on Amazon I have a Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2, G502 Lightspeed, and a wireless Glorious Model D but not sure which I'm gonna get. Leaning to the Superlight 2 but I'm not thrilled about spending ~$150 on a mouse.

I used to be a wired mouse snob until I bought a 'cheap' Logitech G305 for $30.  I've bought multiple since as they seem to fit whatever the hell my grip would be called (changes depending on game).  Use these for my main pc's and my laptop.

That said, I've also got multiple M510's as they are a great basic wireless mouse that gets the job done.  Not gonna lie, I do miss my wired G400 at times but the G305 is a better mouse overall.  These are still in use in my HTPC and GF's desktop.

I'm not one to stick to brand's but logitech mice have really been reliable for me overall.

yeah, that's true for me too. I had to look up images of the different grips before I answered. none really matched 100% with any of my grips but hybrid seemed to closest to what I usually use.

I used a G600 for a few years, and overall I liked it. I never really used the third top button, and I only used about half of the side buttons because I didn't need them all and a lot of them were a little too uncomfortable for me to reach anyways. Nothing inherently wrong with the mouse though. It's a good value buy for sure, if you think you'll use that many side buttons. I wouldn't call it small, but it's not thing longest mouse either. Pretty medium size in that dimension, but obviously quite wide.

On the other hand, they discontinued the 604 but they're still selling the 600??? come on logitech lmao
