DYI upcycled X-BOX active Fan cooler

I bought an Xbox series X - have to say that small box is rly impressive and Quiet but as im obsessed to have all things kind off "cool" i started to look at any possibilities of an Cooler... I just found out there is nothing what would make sense. Most of the solutions are brainless gimmicks doing nothing just some RGB and noise or the best i found was to place another fan over the Fan of the Xbox.. Like yeah 2 fans are better then 1 but was not satisfied...  So i was playing with the idea of making a cooler similar to the laptop ones... Which could be even cooling the external HDD...

1, Step bought an old Laptop cooler for about 3 USD:

It came with a broken leg but solid Aluminum base which is perforated and it had a hub for 5V power supply by USB..

2, Bought 3x 180mm Fans - Fractal design for  12 USD - for this i used one...

IMG_1960.thumb.jpeg.bada3bdaed7ef3113ed809d34873a738.jpeg

3, 3D printed by a friend a nice frame to cover all the cable's and having a stand...

This is making the measurements..

IMG_1993.thumb.jpeg.d7a2567b449149a6bda289dd9b26c0c0.jpeg

4, Cut out the needed base from the laptop cooler plate and just connected it with the FAN and painted it a bit...

5, Basically bought as well a USB to Fan header voltage converter from 5V to 12V for the FAN and as well some Led strips for ambient white light and a Noctua fan speed regulator and assembled all together.. Its visible on the pictures so what to say more 😛

I reused even the grey original stands from the laptop cooler 🙂 and kept all the screws for future project ...

And here is the final Product!:

Let me know what you thing about it. I'm more then happy with the result as the Xbox and as well the External drive are much more cooler so the summer can come. And it didn't add any noise to the system so its Quiet powered just by 1 USB port of the Xbox....

I know its a Kids play compared to some projects here but wanted to share some experience. And im pretty sure this is one of its kind 😄 and its mine.

Dude, that is awesome. I love small mods like this that make a big difference. Sometimes the best things are the simplest. I love the looks as well, you did a great job designing it and the lighting in the dark is really effective. I do not own an Xbox, but can it tell you its internal temps so you can objectively say it is making a different ?

I have no doubt it is as any improved airflow into the console is going to help.

Thanks 🙂

Regarding the temps on a Xbox - didn't found anything what could help to measure the internal temps, but yeah im sure it helps, even you cant measure it you can feel it that its not becoming that hot at the exhaust (top of the console).

BTW - one technical question, the last picture i inserted there is not appearing in the edit mode and im not able to delete it... Is there any bug? :confused_confused1:

Well if you can feel a cooler exhaust then that's all you need to know.

As for the image, yes that is odd. Please leave it as it is and I will document it and speak to a tech about it.  Thanks for letting me know.

This is pretty neat man.  You can buy these off the shelf, but not anywhere NEAR as cool as yours is.  The one I've got is just a plain white stand, and it has some plugs and dips built into it to set the controllers on and charge them.  I think it has a headphones stand too on it (useless for my XBox setup).

Really cool mod!

Thank you very much! And yes there are many variants you can buy from the shelf, but it was not good enough, mainly from the cooling perspective... But i have to admit im a bit obsessed with thermals and cooling.... :misc_cold:

@Memmento Mori

I spoke with the platform developers regarding the image that would keep appending itself to the end of your post. This is because that image was attached as an upload but not inserted into the topic. Any attachments by default, unless position by the user will automatically show at the end of the post. So all that was needed was to remove the image from the attachments area 🙂
