Had some wierdness with the 96 civic this morning.

57F (14C) outside this morning, drive to the gas station to get coffee. 5 minutes later, go to start back up the car again, turns over and fires up, runs for about a second, and cuts out. Try again, same thing. Try again, give it some throttle, good to go now.

Last time this happened, I had a nearly empty tank, so I thought that was related. Now I am not so sure.

Any ideas?

I remember having that once in my Accord. I figured it just grabbed the wrong fuel map for the conditions (it was recently after I went from a 12kg flywheel to a 4kg flywheel) and derped. I never had it again for around 18 months after that.

However, I believe it may be due to a dirty/faulty MAP sensor, idle control valve, sparkplugs or even injectors for yourself?

It's definitely worth looking into. Most likely, its an old part that's going out.

Found another rattle in my exhaust. One more hose clamp, and a slight adjustment to the heat shield, now the car is quiet.

Almost too quiet lol.

A more permanent fix would be to change the muffler bearings.

Non-stock brakes ✔

Tesla are refusing to publish pictures of the interior and all of the windows are tinted so you can't see inside. I'm going to go ahead and say this doesn't count as the Porsche did it with a production model car. The only difference is the Porsche had a roll cage and they replaced the drivers seat with a bucket seat for safety reasons.

I'm with you 100%. As pretentious as it sounds, I'm only happy with fully unedited, interior cam lap recordings. Manufacturers are so eager to do most anything, honest or dishonest, to improve their lap time that I've become super skeptical.

I guess that further justifies my obsession with the FK8 lol

Speaking of which, I stopped by that dealership that had the red FK8 I was looking at. They sold it last week..

It looks like they're trying to go back to their old styling, but it's not really working

BMW-328-Wendler-Cabriolet-33352.jpg

This type of grille only works on that type of body style. What they've done, is made what I imagine a 2019 Lexus IS F would look like if Rockstar made a version of it for GTA.

Yeah, I'm getting some GTA vibes as well.

The other thing is this car has horizontal grille slats rather than vertical, which I can't remember any other BMW having (though I'm sure there are a few, but probably not recent ones). I think that's part of why it looks so off.

I think this is the M3 that looks the most wildly different from the base 3 series, and I don't think I'm a fan of that concept, let alone how the car looks. And the rear of it is the part that I wish changed - I still can't help but think of a Lexus every time I see one. At least they're sticking with the quad exhaust. It's something.

Final track outing of the year to Cadwell Park. One of the best circuits i've done in the UK, up there with Anglesey. 2020 looks to be the year of BBK as i'm reaching the limits of the stock set up in terms of heat and raw power. Also plan for a new turbo actuator and map which should give me another 10-12hp on top of what I have (~240hp):

Started getting used to packing efficiently. Secure box for tracks with no garages, tyres in boot and 20L jerry can behind passenger seat. None of my friends are able to fit a full set of tyres in their car!

l1GsNUN.jpg?1

Getting set up in the morning:

2wWlRGj.jpg

One of our friends has a little more disposable income and hires a race engineer to set up his car so he can arrive and drive...

2Ra31We.jpg?1

Car was great once again on track. Was a little outgunned by some other high end machinery though:

W9amsOo.jpg

With my mates doing convoy laps (more fun that it sounds!)

8FPLd3T.jpg?1

Friend recently replaced his Integra Type R DC2 (needed engine rebuild and a lot of rust work) with a Megane RS and joined the boost life:

dJFYteL.jpg?1

Was our mate with the Team Schirmer cars first time at Cadwell. When you turn up in a proper track car, unfortunately you become a target for other people with high end machinery!

I'm pretty sure Ford designed the boot to be able to fit 4 wheels in there.

I thought I might be looking at dropping a new short block in my STI, but that was not the case, and I am continuing on my march to 200k miles on the original block.

I had a consistent misfire on cylinder #4 under heavy load (+50% throttle and +9 lbs of boost) and a bit of an unstable idle. If I stayed off the skinny pedal the car ran fine. Those symptoms can point to a ringland failure, and with full bolt-ons, many track and autocross days, along with generally aggressive driving I've been prepared for the motor to go boom for quite some time. Compression test was good, so I started looking at plugs, coils, and injectors. Turned out it was just a bad coil on the #4 cylinder. 20 minutes and 77 dollars later, I'm back to hooning around like a proper STI driver. :music_rock:
