k, I went on a "proper" test drive. Those tyres are garbage. Also not a fan of the very little feedback through the wheel. There's lots of feedback through the chassis though. There's even a tiny amount of torque steer in 1st when you properly yeet it. The fuel economy isn't that good when you yeet it though. I averaged 16.2 MPG (17.4L/100km, 13.5 US MPG). Luckily while driving like a normal person, it gets 38.1 MPG (7.4L/100km, 31.7 US MPG). The car is also almost undrivable in traffic when in Dynamic mode. It changes the turbo map so the boost comes on very quickly at low RPM. Below 1500rpm, it drives normally, but once you hit 1500rpm, it yeets because of the boost. Leaving it in Normal mode makes it far more predictable.

This is also the first "performance" turbo car I've driven. I do want to try a really old turbo car from the 80s/early 90s to experience actual turbo lag.

Took my car to the mechanic for diagnostics on the alarm and power steering, they couldn't find an issue so it's more than likely the battery. I did buy a battery but haven't put it in yet because it's dark and raining. I did find this neat feature on my car though. Italian music for Italian car.

The oil filter cap seems like a waste of $50... I completely understand... until you try to remove the factory one with your hand when the engine is remotely warm. My Windshield washer fluid cap also mysteriously disappeared on me too recently which is cool. Realistically I also need to add high flow cats to replace my broken up one's but I'm going to need a proper tune after to remove the inevitable CEL.

Side note - Ran a 2016+ Challenger R/T on a fairly fast roll start recently and he couldn't believe I was stock aside drop in air filters. I think he must have had an issue or couldn't drive stick because I beat R/T's but not THAT badly. Then again I never started at that high of mph and those things are bricks as far as aero goes.

Been dealing with intermittent issues with the Golf R the past ~2mo. It all started when the weather got cooler.

 

Went through plugs+coilpacks, thought it was maybe a bad tank of gas (since it was so intermittent).. ended up being a loose turbo inlet. The screw is at the back of the motor near the firewall. I felt like the inlet had a little too much play and bam, that was it. The behavior did not lead me to believe it was a boost-leak, but with the leak being where it was, makes sense since it was after MAF calculations so it was not getting intended air, or in some cases, potentially getting too much air and causing backpressure.

 

The stock IS38 at 52K miles pushing 380 crank is still tight as can be in terms of shaft-play or any indication of an unhappy turbo.

 

did find a bit of blowby at the turbo inlet, but I will re-check this in a month or so now that the turbo inlet piping is re-sealed and tightened down again.

Well my 130k mile CX-5 has been throwing a check engine light. Based on the P0172 code "System to rich (bank 1)" but the fact that I can't feel anything wrong with it, its running quite normally, guessing a sensor issue. For the hell of it, I threw a bottle of Techron in my last tank of gas, and since then the CEL has turned off and back on periodically. So I may just run another bottle of that and see what happens.

 

Really, next up is I'll check/clean the MAF sensor. Been kinda lazy about that.

In 2001, they were going to make a 450hp V8 hatchback for the road. This is because at the time, they were racing in DTM and wanted to have a road version of their DTM car. It would have had a 4L V8, front engine, rear wheel drive based on this.

Instead, they decided against it for whatever reason and the best version of this car available to the public is a front wheel drive 2L turbo making 160hp. The V8 version would have looked like this

They didn't even have to make it mass production. Mercedes did that exact same thing except actually made the thing. This is what it looks like

Just wanted to share my car 😛 11/2011 Astra 2.0 TDI OPC line with 165 HP and adaptive suspension its nice very affordable allrounder! (Just had to share after i saw the OPC astra :P)
