I got an email that the delivery guy couldn't deliver a package because nobody was home at 18:12 while we were sitting in the living room at that time..

So I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who hates rain :classic_laugh:

..I know how you feel...time for a related multi-rant...

Normally, FedEx and other deliveries can be left with the concierge downstairs at our building, but not now, what with the pandemic and all...regular FedEx folks know our phone and buzzer #s, but regular delivery staff is currently away, and new guy knows very little...have had 20+ deliveries over two weeks and a few of them went sideways...'could not deliver / no answer ' door tags when we were here, packages NOT at the subsequent pickup location when they were confirmed to be there, etc etc.

Some of these deliveries concerned an RMA, meaning an extra round of back-and-forth shipping within the above framework. Here's an example, a 3090 Strix 'Nickel plated' backplate...

NickelBackBackU.jpg.8b9d5fe3b2415f5f17da75fa979eecba.jpg

...the front / main block has different issues - right on the GPU 'cold-plate'...now, Ampere's have somewhat more curved IHS and also much more raised lettering than is normal for a GPU or even CPU. That combined with the GPU block's cold plate issues has me concerned - got a new (different-make) 3090 block here now, with much smoother (and thicker) cold plate and cleaner-looking Nickel-plating. I might try to mod the current GPU 'front' block into a backplate cooler by having machined it down to even copper...only concern is weight as both blocks combined plus card weigh > 6 lbs ?

I wasn't even mad, just a bit saddened by the fact he was too lazy to get out of his car to do his work..

Now that waterblock on the other hand, that would get me mad! After making water cooling products for decades they still couldn't figure out how to do it properly.

I'm already using a Bykski GPU bracket to support the weight of the 3090, I don't like flexing PCB's :classic_laugh:

Do what I do, run them vertical or if you can't run parallel water bridges to spread out the weight ?

...just a quick fyi... though rare, Bykski also had a recent Nickel flaking issue on a 3090 block (per a 3090 forum post elsewhere, but also taken care of immediately by their RMA). I think may be the pandemic has thrown all kinds of monkey wrenches into supply chains, materials / quality, regular labour force etc.  Anyway, I have some Bykski blocked GPUs for several years in service now, no troubles.

...but to top it all of, with an RMA, you get to deal with the same delivery company thrice for the same thing - double trouble, adding insult to injury...?

1 night Amazon delivered "my" package and it was the persons down the hall. Delivery guy was already down the hall knocking on their door by the time I'd opened mine.I ran down the hall and caught them as the other person was opening THEIR door and showed the delivery guy AND the other resident the mixed up package. She was nice enough to swap with me,he just said sorry and continued on his way,and I wrote up a complaint about how my $500+ dollar delivery was being left at wrong address!? (was my video card) You'd think they'd double ck when dropping off. He'd even left the notice on line saying my package was delivered.

I was happy my parents were at home when the 3090's came. I use their adres for every delivery, cause I'm 'never' at home during the day. It wouldn't be nice if something like that would end up in the wrong hands, or any delivery for that matter...

...this is their 'revised' PCIe 4.0 riser, supposedly tested with X570, 3090 & Ryzen 5k ...hopefully it works as the GPU w/ custom front and back blocks in my Raven build is getting too heavy for anything but vertical mount. But if this riser doesn't work for that application, I have other builds that can use it, ie. with 4x M.2 daughter cards (PCIe 4.0 and 3.0)

Yeah, linkup seems to be the way for me to go as well. I'll have a 3070, 3080, 3090 to hook up to them.

I went ahead and got a PSU with 8x 8pin so I can run 4 GPU's on my bench I built. I'm going to see if this can take a light load on 2x 1080ti and 2x 1070.

ROTFL, I love looking at the purchases on here and than seeing mine like this....

Had to replace the old 1 'cause the power supply for it went out last night.

Some small and inexpensive things, like some sort of surgeon's knife I bought the other day, make me really happy. The price doesn't matter if you need something and use it a lot!

"...Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in", 'they' being the ravens in Project Raven...now a 5-mobo-2-case productivity-and-play build ?

...didn't think I would be buying more DDR4 GTZR at this point, but the flock of ravens made me do it...at least it's DDR4 4000 CL15. 5 L of Mayhems X1 to help cool things down

7 years old, that's not a bad reason to upgrade..

But before I do that you'll se a reply here: "bought a pool with a fence"

Haha, that sounds like one of my nieces. She's so full of love for everything that lives, both humans and animals! They have a Belgian Shepard, most kids are afraid of that dog, but she hugs and plays with it like it's just a toy! Most important thing with that dog is that he knows you, I can creep up on him and silently call his name and he jumps up with joy :classic_love:

I went ahead and defied the branding gods and bypassed some way better and more costly units to replace a $400 12k BTU floor unit that just won't keep up with all of the office activities. It's only a 12 ft x 16 ft room, but maybe it can make it a meat locker ?

That is a lot of money, I recently bought this for the dungeon and it keeps it ice cold down there.
