Build Log: The Manhattan Project

Final update before I start working on making changes to my bench rig to accommodate HWBOT competition testing for the 2080ti. I'll need to swap out the Watercool cooler on the cpu and replace it with the TechN cooler; and run the card first on air to make sure it works, then add a waterblock to it. It'll likely take me a few days to do all that because of the hardline, etc. (I've got plenty of Tygon and compression fittings that should help speed that up). 

 

I'll also be swapping out the Kingpin 3090 at that time and it'll be going into the Atlas II build. 

 

Also now thinking about adding a third gauge somewhere to do gpu volt mods (Bastian's idea).   

 

Anyway, some more pix that reflect what the gauges will look like in the pod. They still need to be properly centered in their cups:

Moved the Atlas II build to the rolling cart, which makes it a lot easier to work on:

Yup, it is kind of amazing how much it shrinks once you take the air cooler off a 4090, though it is appreciated per > this size comparison....I couldn't even have mounted it in the twins' case.

Ordered an open air platform for the test bench setup I'll be using for the Gen 5 m.2 nvme ssd review I'll be doing (on the Apex Z790):

'bench' case is out for delivery today, as is a an item from Crucial. 

 

working on the power/gauge panel (fitments for blown fuse led indicators):

I'm mostly interested in monitoring 12VDC; hence the test points that are tied together by the 'buss'  bars toward the left of the panel.

showed up as a puzzle (no instructions), but it's assembled now

replaced the 3mm screws supplied with the bench with some cut down black button caps I've got on hand:

Got the HD backplate & CPU installed for upcoming tests. Not looking to do anything fancy here for the time being (e.g., lapping, delidding, etc.), as I need a running GEN5 setup for those upcoming tests.

 

 

 

 

Will now mount the Apex to the bench frame detailed in the previous posts.

Got the wiring done to the point I should be able to do pending tests for an upcoming review:

Found some issues with the SATA PWR cable wiring, so I remade them. Also, the spare ATX3.0/GEN5 compliant PSU showed up.

afternoon, everyone, it was jaba tiem earlier. anyway, first, the good news... electrical works like a champ and pumps definitely push water. now the bad news (which has since been addressed): i still gotta work on my plumbing...

 

 

 

anyway, lol, of course it leaked. next steps: got my routing figured out, just needed to decide what I want to use for piping. I have 16mm PTEG, Acrylic, and silver shining plated brass tubing on hand (all Bitspower), and of course the Tygon. Decided on PTEG for now, as it will be the fastest to form and fit properly, so I can (hopefully) get my review done by the deadline:

The sheer complexity of your build makes it an amazing work of art. And, it makes my head hurt at the same time, LOL.

 

I also have tremendous respect for your patience. Looking back to my younger days as a third-generation auto repair technician, I always hated doing collision repairs because I didn't want to have to look at the same car for more than one day. Always preferred doing the mechanical work and knocking out more than one job in a day. I haven't changed with age and that same kind of impatience found its way into my PC building adventures. I want it done yesterday, with an order of fries, to go.

 

Thankfully, I haven't been a car guy for about 35 years. I don't miss being dirty and having busted knuckles. Now I won't even do my own oil changes, LOL. Better to pay Walmart or Jiffy Lube.

...but the copper thing certainly has the potential to be included in the next phase

Bench updates: swapped in the SR3 with an Intel W-3265 Xeon, swapped out the Asus X570 Hero/5950 combo; 1/2x3/4 Tygon showed up; also moved the support bracket for the tubing/fittings and added a pair of supports for the runs to/from the vrm block. I might also add an extra rad/dual pump combo in series if needed (I've got them on hand). Now I'm just waiting on the Primochill cleaner kit and cooling additive to arrive (I use distilled in my loops)...

made some changes to the fittings bracket (lowered it; added 30 and 60 degree rotaries)

Some updates:

• rebuilt the dual Watercool Industrial D5 PWM Pump setup for use with the third radiator that will be going into the SR3 segment of the manhattan project
  (for the VRM block; and the dual Intel 900P 480GB SSDS, which I also added blocks to)
• swapped out the SW3s that were in the two MORA420s and replaced them with Noctua 200s
• did away with the splitty9 actives that those SW3s were connected to (don't need them with the Noctuas; but will use one of them with the SW3s that will cool that third radiotor)
• received the additional QD4s from Koolance;
• hung the replacement deaths head moth in its proper place in the ménagerie.
