  1. I have a pair of Noctua NF-A20 fans on the workstation to blow through the system, and a room fan to help if needed. Should be alright, but the cooler the better! Below 85°C should be no problem, maybe some OC headroom or possible mods. I drilled out a hole in the backplate a little bit to fit the io shield, so I knew it was metal. But here is a little display for you, I scratched a little bit of paint from the side and did a resistance check. Also flipped the picture around in the original folder a few times but the forum keeps uploading it upside down
  2. The generous zodac, I've never heard that one before..
  3. Yeah, I'm already enjoying the simple mods. And it's not expensive, so that's a bonus! The beverage was a NEIPA from a local brewery, we have a subscription with a group of friends. We get a box of beers every two weeks, share/drink and review them together I hope it'll be enough to keep it at a good boost clock for folding, that's the idea. And every bit helps for that, so I might have to use a higher profile m.2 heatsinks on the back to cool it even more. I already replaced those, but on my card they were 0.75mm. This one is a 12GB card, does that impact anything? Thanks The pads came with the m.2 heatsinks, I'll see if I can find some info about them and I'll let you know! I will keep those blocks in mind, though I don't plan on doing any water cooling on the workstation and both the pc's are done. (besides a block for the 3090, dammit Watercool..)
  4. Looking good @Avacado! The GPU sag is a bit extreme, I support the idea of making a bracket in the future I always do it like you mentioned @tictoc, separate PSU and let it run for a few hours, stop and run it again with paper towels everywhere. Never had a leak though, but I'll never power up the system without testing..
  5. After some guys here on EHW triggered my interest in the Tesla M40 cards I decided to start looking for one in Europe. Last Saturday I found one in Belgium for a reasonable price, so I did not hesitate and buy it. Besides that I bought an MSI 980ti cooler, a few screws, washers and nuts and a few m.2 SSD coolers. The idea I have is to improve the air cooling on this M40, in such a way that it is usable in the air cooled workstation I'm (slowly) building. See it as a little side project to get my fix of GPU's in this time of shortage, not that I can complain. [An interruption of this post, to post the final product] [And we continue the original post] So let's start with the card itself: Looks pretty with those red lights reflecting on the original cooler, which looks even better in person. A shame I have to remove it.. The old paste and pads: The paste was pretty dry, but it wasn't hard to clean it. I'm not sure if this is original, it looks like someone replaced the pads. Looks good after cleaning, but we will have to wait for the cooler to arrive. New pads on the aluminium backplate: I did some measuring to get the thickness right for the pads next to the Vram. I'm pretty sure I don't have any option to cool anything on the other side of the PCB, so I try to cool this side of the card as good as possible. A lot of bolts to get some pressure on the back, and not too tight for obvious reasons. Also, an IO shield from a GTX580 installed on the card. Not the strongest solution with only one bolt, but at least it's a good fit. And here are the m.2 coolers on the back with some double sided tape/coolpads. As soon as I can fire the card back up I'll measure the temps on the back with a digital thermometer, to see if I have to improve it. That's it for now, I'm waiting patiently for the cooler!
  6. Parallel bridges are awesome, I had one on the 5700xt's. I could install the pair of GPU's together on the motherboard as a single "block" And vertical is even better, I love the workstation for that!
  7. No doubt that would be part of the vacation! I heard the party's at Road Atlanta are like no other FD event
  8. I wasn't even mad, just a bit saddened by the fact he was too lazy to get out of his car to do his work.. Now that waterblock on the other hand, that would get me mad! After making water cooling products for decades they still couldn't figure out how to do it properly. I'm already using a Bykski GPU bracket to support the weight of the 3090, I don't like flexing PCB's
  9. I noticed your ppd went down, was already wondering what the reason was. Glad it's back online, team ppd was getting a bit low!
  10. I've seen you live So jealous, one day I'll be there at Road Atlanta! I was up until around 4am to watch the finals, I love the 6 hours time difference.. ?
  11. You will regret it... I've been there once, and I still don't know why I did it.
  12. I got an email that the delivery guy couldn't deliver a package because nobody was home at 18:12 while we were sitting in the living room at that time.. So I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who hates rain
  13. But with 1000 units worth 33k average per 3 hours you would think that they are missing a passkey, otherwise the average points per unit should be way higher.
  14. Interesting, that'll dissipate a lot of heat for sure! Haha, they are awesome!
  15. That was so good! The girl singing gave me the chills..
  16. https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=1230589 270 million points in 24 hours, almost 1000 units per update with an average of 33k per unit. What do you guys think, insane CPU system or GPU's without a passkey? Their team is closing in fast.. Some info after looking up the team on the F@H page: SLING is founded by Jozef Stefan Institute, which is a Slovenian research institute. Also, we are number 200 on the team rankings! ?
  17. That's weird, why would those risers not work with a 30xx card? At least it's a good thing you know what the issue is.
  18. IN, Bastiaan_NL I would like to be excluded from prizes, and I'll donate 24 hours of folding time to anyone with less than 5 million PPD with the workstation using at least a 3090 and a 2080 super.
  19. There is a 9 million gap between Stanford and EOC on my side. I filled in the link, and copied the results. One unit is at 84%, after that unit is done I'll check it again. [edit] No difference after an hour, dropped 2 units but nothing popping up on the stats.
  20. Ha, you know I would LOVE to do that Only problem is I'll need to run the workstation 24/7, because that's the only air cooled system..
  21. 3 heatsinks for the back of the M40 3 extra risers for the workstation And a few stainless bolts, nuts and nylon washers to mount the M40 backplate without the original cooler.
  22. Thanks, sadly it's just a reflection of the ML140 fans in the main system. It looked so good I did not move it for the picture I'll try to swap the original heatsink for an MSI 980ti cooler soon, once it shows up from China, also figuring out a heatsink setup for the rear and maybe something for the front by using M.2 SSD heatsinks. Yeah, I consider it a good deal for a little over €200 from Belgium. There are not as much Tesla GPU's for sale over here compared to the USA, it felt a bit better to buy it from somewhere close. And I'm not scared either to hack up new things, I've been paid to do it a lot of times too
  23. Taking a Dremel to a new Core P8, brave man!
