What's that burning smell ? ...I have been in pm contact 'elsewhere' a few times with Veii, and both he and Kefi were posting recently at the 4090 thread 'elsewhere' before/at 'release day' - they both seem like very capable and likable fellows. I bet you right about now, TPU's 'unverified GPU bios' segment is getting combed for various-gen XOC vbios....I can hardly wait for a new inexperienced user to complain after loading a 1000 W vbios on their air-cooled entry-level card . It is of course recommended to only try this if you have a dual vbios on your card, or at least an iGPU - and very good cooling. In any case, I hope they follow this up with some sort of vbios editor that works on the latest NVidia gens (touring, ampere, ada lovelace). I fondly recall my first real GTX6xx series bios modding > via Notepad !! Those were the days...This being an arms-race of sorts, NVidia engineers are probably very busy right about now pushing new micro-codes

Thanks so much for that Google docs table - I had been eyeing an Aorus 670E Master (knew of one left in town) but wanted to know more about the oc clock features. The retailer mounted the CPU (7950X3D, in part for productivity) and flashed the latest bios already. RAM is 48 GB (2x 24 GB) 7200 TridentZ 36 CL....Unfortunately, I won't have time for about a week to ten days to exchange mobos in my w-cooled setup as I am very busy at work...but anticipation is a lot of fun in itself... PRICE was right, and I got a Starfield Premium coupon

@bonami2, @Sir Beregond and all other OLED fans ...this is definitely worth watching on your OLED (including sound at 1.20 min and onwards). While few will have an 8K HDR 240 FPS setup, this is one of the best-produced demos I have seen...

FYI, as mentioned a while back, if your system you use for FS2020 runs into some CPU or RAM limitations, you can always set 'Priority' to high in Task Manager / Details for the relevant .exe file ...approaching Svalbard ...back in town, checking if I am home... ...flying WNW from Vancouver at sunset

Post your Results for the New Solar Bay Benchmark from 3DMark
J7SC_Orion replied to J7SC_Orion's topic in PC Gaming
I like to emphasize that bugged scores via VRAM don't really work with Solar Bay, unlike they did with Speedway and PR starting those whole ECC arguments. Several long-term OCer folks on another OC thread mentioned this about Solar Bay, and the two or so bugged runs I saw when the VRAM was cold confirmed it. There is also a related warning that pops up at 3DM. My biggest hold-back is cold VRAM as I encased it in thermal putty, thinking back to the 3090 GDDR6X ovens...turned out to be a mistake I will have to correct; my VRAM oc's get much better when warmer. In any case, VRAM-bugged runs in Solar Bay seem to produce a lower score for that bench as 3DMark staff worked on that issue after 4090 release and Port Royal and Speedway. CPU & RAM are also important and there are a few secrets about Solar Bay I haven't quite got to yet...my best run so far with my trusty old 5950 on ambient w-cooling is below, but I do know that I will fall further behind the more up-to-date CPUs - still my score is about 50+ spots ahead of the next fastest 5950X 4090 combo in HOF. I am waiting re. upgrading this system until the fall when there is more info about new CPUs for AM5 and TR, as well as Intel's new offerings Regarding Vulkan, below is a relatively short run with ROG Vulkan Furmark when I let temps come up a bit (and also helping VRAM) with artifact scanner option engaged. As already mentioned, I would love to see Vulkan spread its wings across a lot of major game engines... -

I like Solar Bay, also because it is using the Vulkan 1.1 API - the more apps use it, the better, for a variety of reasons. Being on ambient water and using an older 5950X does put some upper limits on for my setup though. FYI, a lot of folks at 3DM Solar Bay HOF have started using sub-ambient cooling (ie. chiller) on their Intel 13900s in combination with the Asus 4090 XOC 1000 W vbios (no safeties). I have that vbios but have not flashed it so far as I am not on sub-ambient or sub-zero; plus I'm quite happy with my latest score, using the 'regular' Galax HOF vbios on my G-G-OC card. In any event, I expect the LN2 crowd to make their entry soon (LN2 on both CPU and GPU) and dominate HOF. Perhaps Splave or so will use it to set some Solar Bay records coinciding with the upcoming release of the Asus 4090 Matrix Platinum...then folks with the Galax 4090 HOF OCL will play their 2x 12VHPWR strengths, and so it goes...off to the races, get the popcorn -
My Microsoft XBox controller is still hanging in there (~ 2 years) but I mostly use the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for FS2020 (in conjunction with the XBox controller). BTW, I have three of those Logitech joy sticks (10, 3 and 2 years old at this stage) and they all still work (different rooms & machines) but are useless for certain other games where you need a reliable controller pad

...Solar Bay is supposed to be 'cross-platform'. I does have a certain amount of run-to-run variance but no worse than Port Royal and Speedway. My VRAM cooling is working against me as VRAM would need +55 C or so to really oc into the +1650 range but at the same time Solar Bay GPU at 600 W+ also likes good cooling. From what I have read, artifacts in Solar Bay will actually reduce scores significantly, so that's an improvement over earlier benches. I haven't posted this at 3DM yet but this run was at 27 C instead of 29 C ambient for the water-cooled 5950X and 4900. ...I like that older AM4 / DDR4 setup. I am using Win 10 Pro in daily trim and w-cooling...hottest day of the year is not 'ideal' for any of this -

@Bastiaan_NL @Avacado @Mr. Fox @Sir Beregond ...interesting new 3D Mark bench which challenges both CPU and GPU. Also, lots of ray tracing. Over 600 W GPU usage for my run which (for now) is at #1 at HOF. I am still learning about this bench and others will do the same so I don't expect to stay there for long, but my 5950X result could hold on a bit longer in class... -
Yup, another price war between Starbucks and Kicking Horse at the London Drugs; loaded up appropriately with both
-
...fairly accurate, judging by the temp it shows vs another thermometer.
-
R.I.P.
-
...always loved J. S. Bach , but who knew....?
-
...usually yes, but gotta wait for London Drugs to spark another round of $ wars, like C$9.99 waiting, hoping, waiting...
-
...time to go shopping soon; down to 5 pounds in the freezer - there should be another price war soon
-
...and another one of these to enjoy your OLED investments... btw, have been watching the price of a LG G3 MLA dropping just a bit
-
Out here on Canada's West Coast, there is a slo-mo price war going on in some chain stores (ie. London Drugs, some Safeways) between Starbucks coffee and Kicking Horse (I like Kicking Horse's Grizzly)...it flares up once a month or so and just in case, we got a steady back-up supply of both Starbucks and Kicking Horse Gr in the freezer

...yup, doing the same with my 2+ year old 48 inch LG OLED. Basic precautions = no burned-in pixels. I used to work with a 27 inch and 32 inch Samsung monitor combo and thought that was 'big', then added a 40 inch Philips for a multimonitor setup paired with the 32 inch...now its 40 inch and 48 inch at my main workstation. It's amazing how quickly one gets used to the bigger sizes - if/when it is time for an upgrade, 48 inch will be 'minimum' as I just love the big workspace area, never mind gamer and vid uses. It is likely that monitor prices will come down, judging by some recent economic data for Asia re. household spending. I have been keeping an eye out for price drops of the new 55 inch LG G3 w/MLA...it has come down a bit, but not nearly enough yet for the 55 inch model I'm considering if / when our 5 year-old media room TV (LG IPS HDR) decides to bid farewell; for now, though, it is still going strong.

I like oc'ing this beastie for the fun of it to max in GPUZ, but for real benching this card on ambient water, I have not gone above 3240 MHz - obviously don't want to clock it higher than that with any kind of serious load on it. With the high clock GPUZ, I am also establishing a base mark to compare to a couple of years from now, just like I did with the prior GPUs, such as the 3090. This allows to check for any kind of degradation over time. FYI, I still enjoy my oc'ed 3090 on another system in another room (powering a 55 inch 4K60). I went for the 4090 as well because I run more than one system also for work, the 4090 was available locally at the base intro price and because the two apps I spent most of my time on - MS Flight Simulator and CP 2077 - both had announced DLSS3 / FrameGen / NVReflex which is a great match for my primary system's 48 inch 4K120. FH 5 and F1 also benefit.
-
... concerning 'heavy' 4090s, another video released yesterday. BTW, I would love to have one of those machines which can lift / replace GPU and VRAM dies for Christmas.
