    This really helps. Thank you. As I am eliminating having any mechanical drives in this build, the m.2 drives did appeal so that I could then just use 2.5" SSD's for any storage I need past the first two drives. So in a way I am using it for physical space saving, not to mention saving on cable clutter as well.

    I figured since I am coming from a SATA 2.5" SSD, anything is an upgrade, so I am happy.

    Micro Center happened to have a 2TB 970 Evo Plus on sale for $219, so I grabbed one the other day. It was normally $329. I am contemplating getting a second one as I wanted 2 drives. Its not gen 4, but frankly don't care since it'll be a gaming machine. That said, was looking around and maybe they just made it sound like a deal lol. Might just look for something cheaper for the other drive.

    That's exactly what I am saying. Personally I don't buy that this is a true rumor. If it's double the performance of Ampere but with double the power draw, that's literally no uplift watt per watt. And secondly, early rumors always try to paint things as "2X this, 3X that" and we all know that's not reality these days. The last time we had a literal doubling of performance (for same tier cards/chips - i.e. flagship to flagship) was probably going from the GTX 580 to the GTX 780 Ti, and close again going from the 980 Ti to the 1080 Ti.

    Eh. Fair, but a lot of us not on the cutting edge run 650-850W for years. Having to say now go to a 1500w PSU would be redonculous. Hell I'd say that would be ridiculous for anything below the 90 class card. If an 850W can't handle a 70 or 80 class card in the future, I'd say they are going the wrong direction with how they are developing this stuff. From an enthusiast standpoint, you are right. But more and more people are increasingly priced out of that stage at this point.

    Typically no, but double what it is now will necessitate rebuying PSU's again. It's excessive when you figure some 3090s can draw close to 500W. Are we really saying next cards are double that? I don't think so.

    Agree with the above, but that also would mean if true that there's technically no performance uplift watt for watt. If you halved the power draw of this theoretical 4080 to what the 3080 draws, is it just a 3080 at that point? I'll wait till we see more concrete stuff.

    Hmm...I've only ever played Dying Light single player. May have to try the co-op.

    For those playing modded, be sure to create a backup. Also helps to have a backup of a clean install. And then be sure to disable automatic updates and always launch via SKSE or something that's not Steam. Anniversary Edition is going to overwrite it and break everything instead of being its own install.

    If they get more in stock, tempted to dump my unopened 5600X and grab a 5800X as the $299-$329 I've seen it for is much more reasonable than it's original $449 price. EDIT: Then again, might just wait for Zen 3D.

    Yeah, Zen 3D should be interesting. I for one would welcome a good back and forth competition with both. Problem for Intel right now is platform expense for a lot of people that might have been on Zen 4 for years at this stage. As @UltraMega has said, CPUs might be cheap, but the overall platform is not. Hopefully that gets better as competition continues.

    No doubt, but pricing got dumb with Zen 3, so I am happy to see Intel offering performance competitive CPUs with more cores (yeah I know big.little) for less as we see where we go from here competitively when AMD releases Zen3D and Intel with Raptor Lake. Seeing the 12600k for $299.99 here at Micro Center and that beat the same priced 5600X. Fail for Intel though is that it still looks like problems with power draw/heat. All in all, I agree that nothing changes for me, but it's nice to see some competition.

    Yeah that's why I am wondering if they are just EOLing the 3080 for these so they can slot in with more VRAM and much higher MSRP. It's not like there is a big difference between the 3080 and 3080 Ti and they aren't discontinuing the 3080 Ti.

    That's too narrow a thought. Take Founder's Editions cards out of the equation as "direct sales". You telling me Nvidia is not raking in profits from AIB cards too? Also let's be honest, the going street prices for hard to get cards enabled Nvidia to raise their MSRP of the 3080 Ti at launch from the rumored $999 to $1199. All in all any of this works out in their favor.

    I honestly didn't realize Microsoft was even close to competing with Apple on that front, but agree it will probably be short lived given what Apple is at this point.

    Yep, makes sense. So if they are halting production, does that make these replacements then like how the 2070 Super replaced the 2080, and the 2060 Super replaced the 2070 when it came to production? Also curious what they'll MSRP a 12GB 3080 these days. Isn't that what a 3080 Ti is really?

    The rest of the title had been cut off when I clicked this. I thought it had only said "Yahoo ceases service" which did not surprise me at all. As to your question, will depend on the company and where they get money from. If China represents a sizable portion of $$$ for them, then no, I doubt it.
