  1. Apologies for the delay ! Been held back sorting a new host for the site. A winner will be announced today
  2. A huge factor in all this will be how well the new hardware scales. In this day and age and looking at the new specs of the next gen (assuming proper development) I do not think it is unrealistic to start hitting those higher resolutions at 60FPS.
  3. Hopefully not long ! But I am going to bet my money on it being a Samsung IC.
  4. Banned for the fact I am moving the site to a new host :fighting_boxing:
  5. They do not help matters when they decide to gimp some cards and remove SLI/NVLINK from certain cards and not others. I say just keep SLI/NVLINK on all the cards and give the consumer a choice IMHO. And then there is the cost of the NVLINK bridge? ~$100 for what is essentially just a cable with a fancy shell? This is blatant price gouging... a low blow if you ask me. Your telling me...I had to buy one.
  6. Banned because I am spending lots of time fixing site issues for the best performance lol
  7. That is the issue, I can setup CCTV rather easily using my NAS etc, so that is no issue. The NAS however does connect to the internet so you could argue a security risk there.
  8. Careful with those locking nuts, I have had a few people with issues of rust meaning they get jammed. I am sure it is more than likely not going to happen but they can be a bugger if they go wrong.
  9. I do not think you can prioritize one over the other unless you are hitting some form of performance bottleneck. It has always been a balancing act, people want the higher resolutions for sure, but obviously the higher res is no good if you are sub 30FPS. Hopefully with the next gen we can get better scaling than the previous gen, but only time will tell.
  10. I find the concept fascinating that you can fit so much on such a small footprint, having the dual Ethernet ports is good, at least you can now do some form of Link Aggregation for performance improvements over your LAN.
  11. Free bans for all ! P.S Check out our new Rig search function : https://extremehw.net/rigs
  12. I had not really looked into SMR drives until now. It seems they are very different and although they look the same, they should not be used in the same way. They are best for write once, read many times scenarios and it seems that using these drives in a "standard workload" where there are frequent writes could result in errors...even crashing the O/S from what I read. Yikes, cannot simply look at the capacity/price anymore, now you have to research underlying technology also. Some good info here. Lots of people actually buy external hdd's as they are cheaper in order to simply rip out the OEM SMR Drives. For simple storage, these are fine but I hear people use these in NAS enclosures for example and I cannot think of anything worse personally. NAS's are generally 24/7 beasts and is something you can end up doing lots of reads and writes too, so I am not sure why people thing they are suitable for that use scenario. Anytime I buy a new HDD, I scrutinize it a fair it, especially if they are for use in my NAS, but I only either use NAS drives or surveillance drives just due to their endurance.
  13. Oh nice. You are lucky to have someone with a great 1:1 broadband. I wish I had that...I do not even have a fraction of that living in the sticks. Oh and I very much recognize that Liva mini PC
  14. While I cannot get a close up, it looks like those leather seats have done well considering there age..no obvious cracking etc.
  15. They do not help matters when they decide to gimp some cards and remove SLI/NVLINK from certain cards and not others. I say just keep SLI/NVLINK on all the cards and give the consumer a choice IMHO.
  16. Yeah I reckon AMD will be the first platform to support DDR5 both in the enterprise market and consumer market. I look forward to seeing some of the consumer related benchmarks when DDR5 is out. I wont be going DDR5 for a little while, even after its release as I will not have started my upgrade cycle for a while lol.
  17. That killed me lol. Those calipers are beastly though...could stop a tank by the looks of things haha
  18. Certainly nice storage drives but with them being SMR, the speed would take a hit I believe.
  19. Welcome to EHW @speed_demon , I have to say I have never tried the in ear Sennheiser range. How is the bass on those ?
  20. Sad times.. I get it though, the frametimes can be problematic. Lots of recent games (and basically all ID games) do not support SLI. It is really such a bad time to lose the "2x" performance if you can afford it option... We are a time where more than ever, we NEED all of the graphics muscle we can get. 4K/60 is nice but let's be honest we all really want 4K/120Hz or 144Hz and there is no single card even remotely close to doing that. Everyone is basically stuck at 1440p/1080p until GPUs catch up. We are already seeing 8K coming to market (waaaay too early) and even a 2080Ti would fall to it's knees unless it was @ 30fps... Seems like a bad time to "kill off" or not find/design ways to re-invent multi-GPU support... after all the latest APIs DX12 and Vulkan were both designed to provide new ways to utilize Multi-GPU support.. why go through all the work (years) to design and build it into the latest APIs just to kill it off before mainstream adoption. A bit odd I methinkx. I always have to take those articles with a pinch of salt as I have heard the SLI/Xfire is dead thing far too many times and it still goes on lol. Granted there needs to be more support than there is and game developers do need to stop cutting corners. I guess what it comes down to is money, they want to get their product to market ASAP and for them not having multi GPU is a small price to pay. Unfortunately it is a little bit of a falsehood as some of their customers are going to want to use their games to the max which is where SLI/Xfire shines, but they will have stopped their customers from doing that. Kind of a vicious circle really. I do not use the console argument because in all reality implementing multi-gpu into titles will not effect console one bit as it is all down to programming, a small switch in software is all that is needed and would not negatively impact the console market...vice versa for titles being ported from console to PC. I digress, there is still a place for multi-gpu but whether or not in will remain in the pro market more than the gamer market...only time will tell.
  21. Yeah it is or rather was. I don't have a garage, even if I did, it would be too small to reasonably do work in. There are some rental garages down the road from me but they're those ones that are 4.9x2.4m. My car is 5x2m leaving literally less than no room lengthways and about 20cm either side which isn't even enough to open the doors to get in and out of the car. Also they get broken into a lot and have things stolen from them. I have seen many cars stuck that way (in over growth) but they are usually abandoned haha. Nice, also I love the fact you have the trust tires under the car....just in case those jacks fail on you.
  22. Yeah, I have yet to try them without any LNA, I will see how load they are at ''Stock'' first. Haha yeah I have some black Noctua's but I bought them that way but I was tempted to dye some earlier in the year. The funny thing is that the beige and brown colour is such a Noctua thing...you see a fan with those colours and you know what it is lol.
