  1. I have gone the Linux route on a few occasions but ultimately from a device and software support point of view, Windows is king and for efficiency and steady work flow (for me) Windows cannot be beat. If Linux was a true competitor then perhaps, but Linux is fragmented so far as to say there is no one true Linux distro which I think is part of the issue when it comes down to unified hardware and software support from Vendors. Ultimately though, its all money. Linux is not driven by corporate interests and while that can be a good thing, it also means there is no uniform driving force behind it, no money to throw around in the interest of collaboration with vendors/partners etc. In any case, depending on use scenerio Linux can be great, no doubt about it.
  2. SteamCache eh ? Interesting notion. For those wondering on what it is and how to set it up : https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/01/building-a-local-steam-caching-server-to-ease-the-bandwidth-blues/
  3. Nail on the head there, casual mobile gamer's tend to just want to play the game and then put it down to resume ''life'', they do not tend to flock to forums to discuss it...shame that they don't but I certainly understand the psychology behind it.
  4. Yeah I created the Bug thread for that board. The Asus Zenith Extreme. Now that board was fantastic (For TR1), it was a fantastic hardware set but it was massively held back by various annoying BIOS bugs which either stifled performance wise or just straight up stopped things from working such as Nvme RAID. Any time an update was released it generally just broke other functionality. Asus was not there interested in the platform in all honest and it was clear that the invested (HEAVILY) in to the Intel side of things. The BIOS from what I understand is better now but it should not have taken that long. Elmor's departure also did not help matters, he was the only one that ever really gave a darn about the board and the consumers.
  5. Source:https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMD-znver2-Scheduler-LLVM-Pend I have to admit, this makes sense. I have been hearing of this new wonderful AGESA with tonnes of fixes across the product line...but still waiting on it.
  6. Yeah that is the nail in the coffin for X399, still love my MSI Meg Creation that is for sure.
  7. There was a lot of customization you could do with XP manually or view utilities such as TweakUI and others. Windows 10 does not have as much customization but still has a fair bit. That being said most of the modifications I make are for performance/usability reasons. I tend not to play with the GUI side of it as I am fairly happy with it. @shuck6566 Windows 10 is rather forgiving hardware requirements wise, I have been fairly impressed thus fair when running it on less that stellar systems, still does a pretty good job.
  8. XP was certainly one of the best that MS produced followed by Win 7. Im even a fair fan of Windows 10 assuming you minus the telemetry aspect etc. It is still a solid OS. If you combined the stripped back nature of XP with the advancements of Win 10, that would be great.
  9. I love the fact that he reposted his food just so you could see it @Simmons .....What is the world coming too.
  10. So it seems that it is likely that TR3 will not compatible with the X399, well it has its day in the sun !
  11. Stop banning for coffee time, it is all about tea time people. Banned for making me have to post this.
  12. Source:https://hexus.net/tech/news/ram/135887-gskill-announces-ultra-low-latency-ddr4-4000-memory-kits/ Likely a nice pairing with the upcoming TR3 platform.
  13. Source: https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/amd_s_ryzen_threadripper_3960x_3970x_and_3990x_launch_reveal_dates_have_leaked/1 I am actually more interested in pricing over anything, not upgrading but looking to see if they will remain priced competitively to carry on punishing Intel.
  14. Good old Windows NT ! Some of the school computers were running that beast lol.
  15. I think the main driving force for the Intel/AMD combo was the uSFF builds such as the Intel Nucs. This was a perfect Combo for an uSFF Intel Nuc build that you wanted the ability to play games on with at least some moderate settings, other than Laptops..it was hard to see where the Combo would be used. Ultimately it was always going to be short lived with Intel now investing in its own GPU technologies. So it was only a matter of time before the alliance came to an end.
  16. Well just look at that..it has been corrected :excited_w00tbrows:
  17. The mind boggles when you think about what we ran back in the day and the systems we used to use :lachen:
  18. True, they were certainly smaller back then. I think the smallest game I remember playing was Lemmings at school on a floppy disk. Sure feel free to post keys here. I will at somepoint create a freebies section as well for this kind of thing. Welcome to EHW
  19. Feeling fuzzy inside P.s, my entry has a typo in on the table.
  20. Banned for going home....and even having a bed, its all about that cold concrete floor.
  21. I remember that too. That was hugely frustrating, I even had the latest driver from Nvidia at the time...but apparently windows knew better! That's when I murdered windows update for a while as it was more trouble than it was worth. @The Pook Nothing wrong with living on the edge
