  1. Refer to the AMD section here: How to Force Windows to Use Dedicated Graphics – TechCult TECHCULT.COM How to Force Windows to Use Dedicated Graphics: Set Default GPU System-wide, Set Preferred GPU, Set Default GPU Through BIOS/UEFI You should be able to dictate under "Switchable Graphics" which adapter is used based on the power profile used (Battery/Plugged In)
  2. The real issue was that they were difficult to get cross platform, and for PC only MGS 1 & 2 were released, 3 and 4 were locked in to console only. So anyone who had played them all, but since sold off their consoles were in touch luck land if they wanted to re-live the magic. That or go and buy a PS4 as they re-released the collection on there. The fact they are coming to Steam is awesome.
  3. Hey guys, So some of you will know that I was/still am a massive fan of the MGS series. I was super stoked to hear that they are re-releasing the series on PC. I am really looking forward to re-living the stories and the nostalgia. Anyone else looking forward to this ? https://www.konami.com/mg/mc/eu/en/ I am hoping that Vol 2 will contain MGS 4.
  4. Usually, I would agree..... I did check Alienware and somehow missed this model, impressive specs and likely better cooling solution than the Asus Strix ROG Scar, at least from initial look. Would have to check reviews. Thanks bud, another decent contender and I get what you saying about having an 18" screen on your lap, that will be big. I am just not settled what size I would like. Yeah I am aware that the mobile versions of the desktop GPU's have a little less grunt. My monitor is an Ultrawide 4K 120HZ monitor and I would imagine a mobile 4090 would have the guts to run it.
  5. Hello all, So I am considering moving from desktop to laptop, will be selling my sig rig (hopefully that goes smoothly). I am wanting to change things up a little. I spend all day couped up in an office at the day job and find myself more and more wanting to be able to chill on the couch and use a laptop instead when I get home, however I want to maintain the ability to game. When gaming I would I would still use the office as I would dock the laptop and use my existing screen, mouse/keyboard. I have been looking at a few options and the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 caught my eye, it is an expensive beast, but considering the specification and paying the SFF tax, it is not surprising. Plus this is something I would get and have it last me for a good while. What do you guys think of this choice ? Anyone have anything else the know of that is worth considering ? Thanks, E
  6. I am confident it will resolve the issues. As an update we purchased the new server yesterday along with the IP's and the server will now be provisioned with the various tweaks prior to moving the site over. When I know more regarding the move and subsequent downtime I will let everyone know Thanks, E

Hey all, Selling quantity 6 of EK-VARDER EVO 120MM FANS. Seen about 6 months of use. A couple of the fans, the protective sticker has started to peel at the edges, and may need to be stuck down again. No idea why some of them have started to lift at the edges but the important opening to the motor is still fully covered and all fans run perfectly fine. Any questions, please ask. Happy to ship international, however additional shipping fees will apply. I have listed prices in all currencies accordingly at the time of listing, but I would double check as exchange rates are always changing. Thanks, E

  9. Why are you trying to extract it ? I would be highly careful, if you reflash a modded GPU BIOS for a laptop, if it bricks, it is game over. No second chances. Different with a PC as you can rescue a bricked GPU by putting in another GPU, you do not have that option for a laptop. So just be careful.
  10. Is there an option in the BIOS to force use of the dedicated graphics only ? Sometimes there is this option and it ultimately disables the base graphics, in this case, Intel.
  11. Update. So we have been hitting our heads against a brick wall with this one. So, we are moving back to a dedicated server. Originally we were on a dedicated server, but we moved to VPS as a more cost effective solution. The VPS worked fine for months, but is now causing us issues. We have done all the diagnostics we can but ultimately nothing we do fixes the performance, so we are now under the belief that is is the nature of VPS now causing issues. Rather than have an unknown amount of downtime for the hosts to diagnose the issue, it is easier to simply move back to dedicated and retire the VPS. There will be some downtime in the near future when we make the move, there will be notification on the day this is happening. This should resolve the loading lag we are currently experiencing and overall improve performance for all the EHW sites (Forum, Review & F@H Stats) I was hoping this would be an easier fix, but it is what it is. Thanks all, E
  12. No I do believe you still need a crossover. Standard patch cable wont work.
  13. Is there a reason you are doing a direct connection? You have both PC's configured to a gateway that does not exist and will not route the traffic. Essentially both PC's are looking out into a black hole.
  14. Ha, we took the server offline for some diagnostics as we are not convinced the problems we are seeing are 100% indicative of our resource usage of the server and possibly an issue at the hosts end. May turn out to be nothing, but worth checking so we get a proper resolution.
  15. Thanks for the feedback, glad it's got just the right sound when stirring too haha.
  16. I would like to own all your RAMZ!
  17. Quick update. We have identified some shortfalls in optimization which are being attended to today and tomorrow on the server side. We are also taking advantage of some further caching and optimized delivery features via Cloudflare which are more recent tools added to CloudFlares portfolio. We also note that the servers RAM usage is spiking to near full utilization at times which we feel is the main culprit. We are hosting several sites on the server, the forums being the most resource hungry and it is likely with the growth of the site that we are now seeing a performance wall. However this is easily remedied, once we finish the other optimizations, we will increase the servers RAM. I am confident after this, we should be in a better place. Thanks all, E
  18. Shucking drives is good for cheap storage but horrible for performance as they tend to use Shingle Magnetic Recording as it's cheaper to produce but its an inferior technique.
  19. This is the sort of thing I consider a basic minimum for anyone who values their data. A NAS in a RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration, though I would always still recommend a backup of your main data storage. I guess it all comes down to people data lifestyle, some data is not "Important" and can stand a loss.
  20. Not yet. We are doing a full backend optimization and we will then check the front end. The strange thing is, nothing has changed configuration wise for a long time, so there is not quick explanation as to what the cause is and thus far it is not obvious. So we decided to do a ground up optimization which Mr @EmXaN is undertaking and hopefully we will get it all figured out
  21. Yeah, I would say a good percentage of TIM application is poor/average on GPU's for the ones I have had a part. Its a shame as ultimately you want a hassel free experience. You buy a GPU, you plug it in your system. Job done. However I find its buy a GPU, dismantle it to re-apply TIM, reassemble, plug it in your system. Considering what we pay, a half decent TIM application with half decent TIM is not much to ask, but we all know its about keeping those production costs down
  22. Nice. Being a nerd for organisation, I like your build spreadsheet!
  23. I still cannot comprehend the electricity usage lol.
