  1. Are there no other higher end boards to be had ? Forgive me, being that I am not leaping to the new DDR5 gen just yet, I have not been looking at the newer hardware.
  2. Nice, I rather like the radiator design on that. With the ducting over the top I would imagine the cooling is fairly efficient. I love buying rigs and repurposing them. A rig like that would be good for FreeNAS, though obviously there is more potential for that rig. I am tempted to go FreeNAS when I do a re-build of the NAS, however I cannot fault QNAP devices.
  3. Slots being DOA or going dead after a while sounds like a physical fault with the board. I have not seen the reviews myself, but is anyone stating that when the slot died it took out their NVMe drive as well ?
  4. I would love for it to be a PC built game from the ground up for sure, it needs to be to live up to its full potential. I really dislike most ported games from console. This may sound PC elitist but I think games coming to PC and console should be made for the PC and then optimized for consoles, not the other way round. I am not developer but would imagine it is easier to tune something down than it is to try and upscale and better it afterwards for PC.
  5. I recall almost burning myself on some GPU backplates in the past. Is that 5700XT in a workstation or media server of some form ?
  6. So I did some checking, looks like off the shelf API bridges for this doesn't exist. I will add it to the development "Wishlist" Funds are tied up currently.
  7. Oh nice....But here comes the old adage "Can it play Crysis".
  8. Source Why cant Intel give something to the consumers ? This is an opportunity to give consumers an accidental golden nugget, keeps people smiling. Retrospective actions to lock it down just seems pretty....No matter how fast it is, its still just a Celeron lol.
  9. Great information @ArchStantonI am a fellow owner of the 5950X is is a beast to get the most out of it. I actually ended going away from PBO and going for the PER CCX all core OC. I did some playing with PBO and Curve tuner, but it was not for me, so went old school and abandoned focusing on single core performance and optimized for multithreaded. Keep up the good work
  10. I think it is not so much a question of the quality of the components, but the lack of cooling ability for them. Folding@Home on a laptop can get real toasty really quickly. While it may not be as hot as running Prime95, the thing I find to look out for on laptops is the sustained heat. Heat spikes or short times of running really hot is usually fine, and anyone would reasonably expect that to be. Leaving it to run intensely over a prolonged period of time IMHO is punishment for a laptop as there is diminished cooling ability. I could be wrong, it may also be poor components related to power delivery. With extensive loads comes increased power requirements which may have been too much for something inside the laptop, maybe even the power brick ? In an ideal world, we could run F@H and other similar programs on all laptops fine, but I think some of them out there are simply not built for the task, I mean technically none of them are by design.
  11. I think ultimately this is for the best. It was never going to get approval...for obvious reasons.
  12. Welcome to EHW ! Nice looking rig. Of course, we would love to have you on the F@H Team
  13. Glad it all arrived well bud. I agree, definitely wait for your new shiny build
