budget, mainly lol. If I were to do something like that I'd *HAVE* to have 120hz good looking panels. Now that I think about it ... i do tend to get headaches below 75-90hz depending on the light source.

Maybe I should just do a 2x2 stack of 4k 120hz monitors and be done. I'm stuck in decision paralysis.

I've seen a LOT of people run the triple bottom + top monitor option on the battlestation threads and whatnot.  It's a popular choice and kinda makes sense.  I'm just trying to think of it from a practicality perspective.  If I've already got 3 monitors lined up and I'm wanting to play a driving or flight game, I'd absolutely want Eyefinity / Surround on.  Shooters, personally I'd want single monitor a lot of the times due to HUD problems.  So that's why I was saying that, because that's what I personally would want out of my monitor setup (which I'm wanting to ditch my ultrawide for eyefinity again 🤣).

I get the concern about going below 120Hz, that's why I went Ultrawide this go around was to try out higher refresh rates.  My old Eyefinity was all 60Hz IPS.

And yup, budget is exactly the reason I'm still stuck on this 49" Ultrawide.  🤣  Buying 3x nicer 4k, 120Hz panels gets spendy quickly.

Yeah definitely overthinking it. Have you done a 3x4k nvidia surround before? Seems like my card will be screaming murder. IIRC I get headaches at anything lower than 90hz-ish.

No, but I used to run Eyefinity from 2007 till about 2017, and then 5120x1440 @ 120Hz (32:9 ultrawide) from 2020 till now.  I use Radeon cards at the moment, but same idea.  My current monitor is ROUGHLY equivalent to two 27" 1440p / 120Hz panels.

Your 3090 will do OLDER titles fine with surround.  No problem at all.  More modern like 2020 and newer titles, you'll probably struggle.  That's why I said just leave it open as an OPTION by having the 3 monitors match.  You don't HAVE to use Surround, but if you're going for that style monitor setup anyway........why not allow yourself the option to use it if you want to?

  3. You're over thinking it.  The max resolutions and whatnot, reported by your GPU manufacturer, are for each monitor, not the entire array.  You're good to go, outside of GPU horsepower at that res.  I think you're going to find a 3090 a tad anemic for that resolution with any sort of 3d loads like gaming.  All depends on what you're doing though.

Personally, I'd suggest the 3x bottom monitors all matching if you can.  That way you can turn on "Nvidia Surround" on games that you want to use it on (and still retain that top monitor function as a secondary).

Discussion forums have a hard time of it these days with the growth of social media services but it is my firm opinion that forums/sites are still THE staple of quality information on the internet.

  5. I've got a basic model Vizio 4k, HDR, 70" LED tv myself.  No problems to report, picture quality is great from what I can tell.  Have you tried just going to a local Best Buy or something and taking a look at what they have in person?  I tend to prioritize sound quality over picture quality though myself.

  6. Only EK product I've used in recent years was an AIO I won during an early foldathon here at EHW, like in 2020 or 21 or so.  I appreciate the gift from a folding event, but yeah.......the EK Basic 240 is already failing and its seen less than a year's (actual) use.  If anything, I'd say that AIO has probably 6 months worth of actual usage on it, if that.  And its already failed.  It honestly was probably beaten by air coolers from the factory, my 5800x never did run correctly with that AIO on it.

For out of the box parts, I'd trust an aliexpress cheapo knockoff air cooler LONG before I'd put anything modern EK in my system again.

I love IRC. I believe that if the iphone hadn't been created mid 2000's that IRC might still be popular today...

I mean, coming from ICQ, AIM, etc... i yearn for the old style BBS messaging systems. Kinda like answering machines.

Oh, you called? Must've missed it. Oh, you texted? Sorry, forgot my phone has been on permanent DND because while I love connecting via voice and text with family and friends, I'm tired of being called by robots, spammers, scammers, and polling bureaus.

I'm not asking for 1988 and Gremlins back.. but... I think it's still fine not knowing where people are 24/7. Or getting ahold of them.

SLOW DOWN EVERYONE. THE SUN STILL COMES UP EVERY DAY.

    for now...

I still have a dumb phone.  Only changed from it last year to a Pixel 4xl.  Kind of thinking of going back to the dumb phone, I literally don't even use the smart phone lol.  It's connected to my router as a backup internet source, that's about it.  I get phone calls sometimes.  I can do the same things with a dumb phone.  🤣  I might pop my sim card into my dumb phone again.  Sigh.

I also have android. I'll try that "Droid Dashcam" next time I ride (probably tomorrow) and see how it goes. I'm constantly hitting a lot of bumps, lots of gravel and roots, and pretty fast like up over 25mph sometimes on the steep declines. When flat I'm around 12-15 mph but still very shaky with all the bumps. Going back up the hills is where I get a good workout.

Like I said, I'm not sure if its my phone itself or the Droid Dashcam app, but my phone bounces around pretty good and my video seems pretty stable.  It's always worth it to try free options first. 🙂

  9. I have no experience with an actual camera.  However I use "Droid Dashcam" on my Android phone and it appears to have stabilization built into it.  My phone bounces around really bad on its dash mount, and my dash cam footage always seems smooth enough.  Maybe there's an iPhone version of dash cam software out there you can try maybe?  Not sure if that'd eliminate enough of your bounces on a bike though.

Just curious... why do you say that?

Well, its kind of interesting and probably long winded, but I'll try to keep it TLDR.

I started down the "ultrawide" rabbit hole back in 2007 with PLP Eyefinity with 2x 20" Dells and a 30" Dell monitor.  Absolutely loved that setup for over a decade.  I tragically lost that setup........

So, I bought into the marketing hype of modern ultrawide displays, and picked up a 32:9 5120x1440 / 120Hz display.

It's not the same, at all.

GAMING - Fantastic (when the games work properly at ultrawide, older games have problems)

Daily Use - HORRIBLE.  I'm always using windowed programs anymore, I can't fullscreen videos (due to the wasted space).

For actual daily use / multitasking, I absolutely hate ultrawide now.  I'll take 3 monitor Eyefinity again please.  🤣  Gaming is certainly easier on a single ultrawide monitor.  Absolutely.  Everything else is harder.

  11. This is pretty neat man.  You can buy these off the shelf, but not anywhere NEAR as cool as yours is.  The one I've got is just a plain white stand, and it has some plugs and dips built into it to set the controllers on and charge them.  I think it has a headphones stand too on it (useless for my XBox setup).

    Really cool mod!

I just checked, it has 275 Attachments at time of writing this. On another related note, I have adjusted it so each attachment page shows 20 attachments before needing to browse to the next page. This will keep page scrolling a little lower.

    I think that'll work a lot better.  TY E!

10 per page is the default, I will up it to a more appropriate amount 🙂

However there is no drop down available in this version for now.

I figured.  10 is fine.  Probably safer for people with slower internet connections for sure.  Up to you, I just noticed wow.........25 pages of attachments.  🤣

  14. ..............

    Page 1 of 25 (243 attachments):

I'm not even sure HOW you could change this, but I've seen a similar option on store front pages like ebay and newegg I believe.  Is there any way to change HOW MANY attachments show up per page?  Like say if there's 10 attachments per page (which is roughly what it looks like now), could we get a drop down menu to give more options?

I didn't even realize I had that many dang attachments in my thread.  Other very large image threads might also benefit from it too.  Just a small minor add on. 🙂

Otherwise, feature seems to be implemented and working perfectly so far!  Thanks E! 😄

    I think it's a great idea, E!

Would clicking on the attachment itself take the reader to the post the attachment is associated with? Or just open the attachment in a separate tab/popup?

I'm guessing most would likely find the former useful if they were after context.

This, exactly right there, would be absolutely perfect in my museum collection build log thread.  🤩  And lots of other threads too.

It always ignores me setting the ram speed for some reason?  I tried cmos reset to no avail.

What do u think of this on my CPU, the AMD Opteron 4386 how to force it into 3.8Ghz speed?

    SupermicroH8SCM-FMemoryRunningat1333not1866.jpg.6fdc53d1c5ee4f1e79a95a91838facb0.jpgQuickCPUAMDOpteron4386SupermicroH8SCM-F.thumb.jpg.d7b524cc09a562b4c1cf89019c6f5676.jpg

You have unsupported RAM installed from the looks of it, hence it defaulting to 1333.  You have "DDR3 LRDIMM 1866" memory.  Your CPU, being Piledriver, is about the best you can get that generation, and yes it does support 1866, but it requires the RAM to be of "UDDR3-1866 or RDDR3-1866" type.  Because you have low voltage RAM (1.50v / "LRDIMM"), its being recognized as "ULV RDDR3-1333".

This is my guess, I could be wrong.  But its definitely defaulting to the "ULV RDDR3-1333" timings and speeds.

Is the RAM on the QVL for the board as 1866?  Server parts tend to be a tad more picky about these things than desktops.

Thing is, the GRE is faster, generally (in rasterization) and does RT 'fine' w/ XeSS or FSR Scaling (or lower Native-res. 1080p 144hz, here)

The GRE should in theory, be capable of doing RT titles as well as any other 7900 series card I'd think.  They're all Navi 31 cards afterall.  It's a tad cut down in terms of shaders and all that jazz, sure.  But its still a full fat Navi 31.  I'm not sure which portion of the card is responsible for the RT performance on the 7900 series cards, but its not cut down THAT badly.

With that said, yes Nvidia cards are doing RT better.  We all know that.  At 5120x1440 / 120Hz, I have zero complaints about the RT performance on my 7900xtx though.  It could be better, yes.  But I knew RT was a bonus when buying this card, and it does the job well enough with FSR / frame scaling.  Last gen's AMD cards were an absolute joke with RT performance.  At least the 7900 series are capable of PLAYING the titles with RT enabled.  I want to say the 7900 xtx is approximately on par with a 3090 or so in RT performance?  Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the performance really isn't bad for RT titles.

maybe focus more on EHW-adjacent things? HWBOT Tweaks for better placement, F@H PPD Efficiency Tweaking, Motherboard/GPU Prep for Sub-ambient... ?

"How to clear your CMOS" has 25,900,000 results on Google and even if EHW gets in the top 0.04% you're still gonna be the over 9000th result teehee

I tend to agree with Pookie here on this one.  Some of those topics, like the clear CMOS one, are definitely a tad generic and are probably going to get lost on google results.

I could give a how to on how to give a case a fresh coat of beige.  That help anybody?  🤣
