  1. I think it's a cool card and I'm glad to see a 3rd horse in the GPU race. I have no regrets buying it as a spare GPU to tinker with. If I were a low budget gamer looking for max performance per dollar, the 6700xt for the same price makes way more sense. Even after they get a grip on the drivers, this is still never going to to be anything more than a midrange card. I just want to see Intel say "YOLO let's make a 4090 competitor"
  2. Finally got around to playing with this thing. Did the unboxing on the Discord and nobody joined It actually scores higher than my RTX 2080 in Time Spy. I loaded up the new CoD MW2 and let it set the recommended settings. Turned off upscaling and ran the in game benchmark which resulted in 86FPS average at 1080p. Enabled XeSS and it went up to 99FPS. Actually getting into a game it was hovering around 115-125. For comparison that 2080 that gets slapped by the Arc in Time Spy pushes more FPS at a higher resolution (1440p) with a weaker CPU (10850k). So the Arc drivers still have a ways to go. I'm hoping this card will pull the AMD "fine wine" playbook and just get better and better as time goes on. The Arc Control software allows you to monitor and adjust a few things. I haven't tried overclocking it yet but it has sliders for it. Oddly they don't allow you to adjust the fan curve. The fans seem to be on a pretty lax curve and don't ramp up very fast. The fans also have a zero RPM mode when you're just idling on the desktop. Even when they do spin up a bit, they are pretty quiet. What's not quiet is the coil whine my card has. I have more playing around to do but I like the card so far. It seems like it will be a nice card once it's better optimized.
  3. Cold weather really helps. I put down just over double the points I did last month. I just can't justify folding hard when I'm fighting against the AC. 70F outside last month, 30F outside this time. I shut all the vents on this half of the house and just used folding power to stay warm Thanks! Would have been a lot tighter race if you had started folding at the beginning of the comp, and for the correct team.
  4. I've had an A770 for a couple weeks now but still haven't had a chance to use it due to being out of town for work. Finally unboxing it tomorrow and will put it through it's paces.
  5. It's finally cold outside so I'm gonna turn things up a bit. I already won last month so somebody better come catch these hands this time
  6. At my last IT job My boss and I both had clicky boards. This hipster kid that collected manual typewriters started and loved our boards. I sold him my old V60 mini with Blues. So on occasion someone would walk through the hallway and get caught in the crossfire of all three of us hammering away. To be fair, we all had private offices with doors. If anyone else was bothered by it they could shut their door or ask us to shut ours. As far as I know, nobody ever cared. On an open floorplan, I would use a quieter board
  7. You can temporarily tape it on with painters tape that way you don't have to give it a reach around while trying to line the screws up from the front

    2022 Team Cup!

Considering I'd have no clue what I'm doing, I'd just blow my stuff up and he'd easily beat me.
  9. I'd say just swap switches but I've desoldered exactly one full keyboard without a desolder station (just used wick and a solder sucker). That experience took years off my life and is why I only want to buy hot swap PCBs now.
  10. I just remembered this was happening this weekend. I typically hook my travel PC up in my cube and fold with free power from the office on that machine We worked late every day this week so I took today off and forgot to leave it on. Oh well I'll just be down a 1080ti

    2022 Team Cup!

Whatever we decide, I'll just go hang out with those USA Overclocking guys and "borrow" some of their truckload of Ln2 to beat y'all
  12. I was hoping for a 5900X3D but I don't see it happening. I went from a 3900X to a 5900x. I got both around their release times. So it's been a while now but I remember it being a noticeable uplift at the time. I was on lower resolution back then though. Now that I game at 4K it would be hard to tell.

    2022 Team Cup!

I feel the same way. I will still try to make the December meet since I'm so close (last I checked they picked a venue even closer to me ) but I feel really out of place in their discord.
  14. I live about an Hour and a half from Unicomp... Next time I'm down in Lexingon I'd like to swing by and see if they would give me a quick tour.
  15. I need to do an inventory of all the different switches I have at my disposal with a quick note on my thoughts of them. My preference is definitely heavy switches. I have both BOX Jade and Navy and love them both but prefer the Navy. For a quieter option I like BOX Royal. Still enjoy buckling springs. Not really a fan of any of the common Cherry switches anymore. A lot of the clone switches are IMO better and cheaper.
  16. Every time Performance PCs puts random cool stuff on their eBay store I throw out random low offers and they accept it... I kinda wish they wouldn't because I don't need more watercooling gear I also just bought a set of Klipsch R-41SA Atmos speakers... I haven't even upgraded my receiver to one with Atmos yet
  17. I have commitment issues Really I just need to slip a GPU I'm not using into a rig that stays on all the time. I don't leave my watercooled rigs on 24/7 (which is most of my rigs). When I get around to redoing my Plex server, I'll try and get a linux VM setup with PCIe passthrough so I can run a card all the time. That aside, I'll be getting more points up regardless now that it's getting cooler. I'll shut the vents to the office and heat this room with folding power
  18. That's weird I'd hit them up for a warranty replacement. I've had mine since they first came out because I wanted a cheap hot swap board to test switches. Never had an issue with it and it's been passed around as my loaner board to get friends into mechs for years now. Don't have any recommendations for off the shelf boards. I mostly use custom smaller boards with separate wrist rests.
  19. Hi, good to see you as well. Your custom GMMK turned out really nice. Makes me want to dig mine out and mod it lol I've tried an actual HHKB and didn't like it because it was too light. I also have mixed feelings on the HHKB layout. My Rama board uses that layout and Its fine when I mostly use that setup but jumping between builds is weird since the layout is fairly different. Also Topre is nice but with all the different boutique switches these days it's easy to get an equally nice tactical feel for way less. I still want to try bke heavy domes in my Realforce but I'm more likely to build another custom board
  20. a few years back I had surgery that required a catheter. I swear they found the burliest male nurse they could find going into it. When it was time to yank it out they brought out the hottest chick in the hospital. Happy endings aside, I hope everything goes smoothly for Jan
  21. Looking good! Love a big external rad I like to clean rads with Mayhems Blitz kits. At the very least flush it out. Fill with hot water, cap off the ports and shake the everliving hell out of it. Flush again. Repeat till nothing comes out. You can also add a cheap car fuel filter just after the rad and run it for a while then remove before final assembly.
  22. Yay now I can turn some of these rigs off. Hopefully by next time it will be cold outside so I can just open a window instead of running the AC which I was trying to avoid.
