Ok, I'll admit it. What is going on here is mindblowingly cool. It also makes me feel quite stoopid. This is about 5 levels above my knowledge base.

I 100% agree with this!

Thanks @emci, @neko10082 and everyone else contributing to this project! It's so cool to see this growing 😄

@emci Stay safe out there..

I have 6 dead Tesla M40's that I would be willing to ship to any of you guys to practice on if that would help. @emci @neko10082

My country might not be supporting you with enough troops, but I can drown you in practice GPUs, blower fans and a waterblock.

I was happy to see the electrical schematic, but my soldering days are way behind me. I don't have the steady hands I used to as a teenager and my 20s.

I found info about changing DeviceID in Windows until the next system boot. It really change DeviceID but I didn't have time to test it with non-modified drivers. If it works fine we could do an automatic replacement of registry keys at system boot.

English: I tried this method last night. It does change the Device ID information that is recognized by the system. It can cheat the installation of unmodified driver software directly, but the system will not load into M40 correctly after installing the driver, because the registry modified information will be restored after installing the driver, and it will not load into the graphics card correctly when I modify it again. No GPU is also prompted in the nvida control panel.

Although I can't fully understand what you mean, can I explain it to "吃瓜群众" in Chinese? " "吃瓜群众" meant "give me tea" or "watch the fun"

Either is a reasonable approximation.  🍿= popcorn.  Many Americans, myself included, associate the eating the eating of popcorn with watching a movie, or more generally with being entertained.  While the finer points of this discussion exceed my technical prowess, I have found it highly enjoyable and entertaining to observe from the shadows, to which I will now return 😉.

English: Haha, I thought this Emoji meant French fries at first, and now I fully understand it. In China, popcorn is also associated with entertainment or watching movies, but our tradition is to eat watermelon and peanuts, so you will see that the expression in my last reply is that a person or a group of people are eating watermelon

English: Thank you very much for your help. At present, I live in China. If you ship the graphics card to me, it may cost a high freight, which may cost $50 or more? Probably. However, I'd be happy to try to help you repair them. I now have two m40, one of which is helping me with the game and the other is used for project research. In China, due to mining(ETH), the price of graphics card is very high, and the 3060ti with the highest cost performance has increased from the recommended retail price of 2499RMB (395USD) to 5699RMB (900USD)

Thank you, but I don't have any solder station or repair capability yet. I can't believe the cost of a 3060Ti there. Could still see what the costs to ship would be anyway.

ok i just came back few days, first i did soldered the wire to the gpu unfortunately i broke the SMD while doing it, however i got warranty covered for so they replaced it for me.

so i decided to overrided it with nvflash:

after few attempts i managed to use 24GB variant on M40

image.png.2a61d810f0a911590fbe592d98eadfad.png

^ it's still showing mem size of original M40

however the the control panel detects it as 24GB.

Davinchi Resolve / Premier Pro / C4D etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, there are live ones here

I am a Director & DIT/Colorist from Ukraine
I work with a lot of professional software like Davinchi Resolve / Premier Pro / C4D etc.
After the news about the mobilization of young people aged 20+ for war, I assembled a PC on Intel QTJ1 (i9-9900K) and RX470 4gb + Tesla M40 24gb to work with 3D and color as a freelancer

I really like everything that concerns homemade problem solving and creating something of my own
Now I started studying the topic of Nvidia Tesla graphic adapters and realized that there are several problems for professionals:

1) Davinci Resolve 19 does not recognize the video memory of Nvidia Tesla M40 24gb and gives an error "Overflowing video memory"

2) Working with Intel processor graphics for image output

Nvidia Studio Driver 566.03

Nvidia Tesla M40

I use Tesla M40 24gb card with manually installed driver from Nvidia Quadro M6000 24gb from Nvidia Studio Driver 566.03 package

The card is detected as Nvidia Quadro M6000, but in most programs as Nvidia Tesla M40
Now I want to flash the BIOS from the Nvidia Quadro M6000 24gb video card, so that I have a signature like Quadro and Davinci Resolve does not give a video memory error

I wanted to ask @emci directly about flashing the BIOS using the CH341 programmer and the included clip

If everything goes well and I can reveal all the capabilities of this card, then I plan to launch a YouTube project about everything from enthusiasts and for enthusiasts
At least make the first correct video about cooling systems for TESLA cards on the whole YouTube with temperature tests and so on more

If you saw off a small piece on the left side of the casing, the card mount fits like a native one! (photo #2)
