Released: Rig Creator

Hello all,

 

I am happy to announce that we have released our Rig Creator. This feature allows you to configure up to 5 rig profiles and spec out your machine for others to see. Not only does it allow for some typical "Hey look at my PC" behaviour but will also aid in problem diagnosis as others will be able to readily see your rig details. This is our first release, we have more features to add as time moves forward. We hope to have Rig Creator 2.0 released in the coming weeks or sooner. 

 

Rig Creator 1.0 Features 

 

* Build up to 5 rig profiles with the ability to repeat component types, we all know that some of us have multiple of one particular component ! 

* Select up to 3 rig profiles to show in tabbed format in your signature area.

* Select a single image to represent your rig, this will show in your signature area, as well as in the "Rigs" tab in your user profile area. 

* The ability to use our Rig Creator Search to search users to view all their rig profiles, or search via component which will show all the rigs sitewide with your component search criteria. E.G, you search for AMD 5950X, or 5950X and the search will return all current rig profiles on the site with that component.

 

Rig Creator 2.0 Features  **Coming Soon**

 

* Rig Of The Week. This will be a widget on the homepage and possibly other areas of the site that randomly chooses and showcases a rig for a week. 

* Rig Albums. Rather than being allowed only 1 image upload per rig profile, we will increase this to 10. The user also has the option for the images to be shared in the Rig Creator album in the site public gallery 

* Rig profile download. This will allow a user to download his their rig as input on the site (Components Fields, Overclock info field, Other info field and uploaded images)

* Rig sharing. We will incorporate sharing of your rig to Facebook and Twitter. 

 

Adjustments in 2.0

* Overclock & Other fields to adhere to line breaks

* Max Rig profiles to be increased to 30

* Decrease max image upload size

* Rig profiles as shown in Rig Creator section to show 8 components as per signature.

* Add a "Show in signature" checkbox to rig creation form.

* Make "Show all rigs"/"Hide all rigs" in signature on non dark theme more visible.

 

I hope that you really enjoy this feature, it has been a long time coming and is a must for any tech community that ultimately revolves around PC enthusiasts.  A formal guide on how to use this feature will be released upon Rig Creator 2.0 release.

Will version 2.0 allow more than 5 rigs to be created?  I'm totally cool with only showing 3 profiles in your sig, I mean, that alone is almost overkill there.  But some of us......have more than 5.  I've got 3 I'd like to input in my rack alone.  Rig builder is also neat in the sense that it helps you remember what all of your parts are too lol.  No big deal if no, I can just focus on the main rigs that are used daily.

That is the sort of feedback we are after. For 2.0 I do not see it being an issue to increase this limit. But as with everything, I would need to confirm this. Do not want to say yes, when it may be a no. However I do not foresee an issue.

I gave it a try, the result is below. The only things I'm missing is WC tubes and fancontrollers, not that it's an issue but I just noticed it.

So, its working great as is E.  Could I ask for a couple of additions that are missing for components?  We're missing a spot for other type of drives such as optical and other types of drives.  I can't input my 3.5" FDD either but....I mean I can find a spot for that.   Modern wise components listing, I'd like to think I'm not the only weirdo still having an optical drive.

Also, there was no OS choice either.  OS choice is definitely important for troubleshooting others based off sig rigs.

Other works fine for optical drives too.   Really, just putting an Other field in would fit most of the gripes, you've got 99.9% of what's needed in there it looks like.  OS probably should get a dedicated field I'd think though, OS is important to know for troubleshooting other's rigs.

As an update the following component types have been added

 

OPERATING SYSTEM

OPTICAL

WC TUBING 

FAN CONTROLLER

OTHER

 

I think the "OTHER" field will also suffice for things like Thermal Compound. Plus there is a section for you to enter in other details regarding your rigs too

A few hours later: I think I'm finished and I don't think anything else is missing (at least for my kinda builds).

Well at least it wasn't obvious at first, I created the rig before I went to sleep and after finishing it, I didn't even notice that there was an option to show it as a signature until this morning when I spent about 15minutes searching for it, might just be my barely functional sleep deprived head, but you should probably add a checkbox or something in rig creation phase

I think it is fairly obvious, though I did wonder in the beginning about adding a checkbox for this during the actual creation or a rig. I will add it to the list to look at.
