Welcome back bud. Sounds like you have had a busy time of it. I need to get one of these headphone stands from you sometime too haha.

Well, ya, that's been a bit of an understatement lol  Wish it was quicker, but only so much you can do in a day.

  • 5 weeks later...

Okay, my move cross country has been severely bumped.  Was offered a lucrative position and frantically packing to get there.  So the workshop is closed, everything on hold as I've already stripped it down.  Sold two 56" snap on tool boxes and am condensing it all down to one 73 inch box.  In the mean time, I've finished these two stands.  They were spoken for, but backed out last minute.  So they have to go, since I'd rather not pack/haul them.  $15 covers shipping and I'll take best offer.

It'll be a couple months before the fabrication shop is back up and running.  Hopefully I'll finally get the CNC router setup to do some reservoir work.  Have a few cad models I've been working on that really need to be cut.

I don't get paid for another week though.  So definitely don't hold for me, sounds like you're in kind of a hurry.  I wouldn't even really know what a fair offer on something like that would be either, my Amazon stand was $10 lol.  But its nothing at all like that, mine weighs like 1/2 a pound and gets knocked over if you look at it wrong.  Good luck on your move mate, looking forward to seeing more neat stuff from you in the future!

Actually, I've done a couple of them already.  Have the components (an old harley engine I've taken apart) for some new designs, but as I said, right now the shop is closed.  But once it's back open, have 2 "bone" style hands and of course a couple more piston style to do, on top of 3 more chain requests.  Been a chaotic month....

I'm not expecting them to go right away.  My move has to be completed by march, so they don't need to go in a day or two.  As for a fair offer, that depends on perspective.  If you new my engineering/fabrication background, you'd think "I couldn't afford one of them", but at the same time, I've had guys offer $15 "because they can buy one on amazon for $10" rofl.  Of course there are the entitled idiots who think everything should be free (just to advertise).  But ultimately it's whatever you think would be fair if you were to make it.  Materials, i've got about $25 into the second one.  The "snake" is a bit cheaper...$10 worth of chain/steel plate and the gear came out of my 2013 Ultra classic when I rebuilt the primary/trans.  So if it's still available, and you want it, just shoot me a message.  I'll be on from time to time, still surfing through the forums gleaning bits here and there.

ALRIGHT!!!  The move is over, but still currently unpacking, setting stuff up etc.  We are officially located in Kansas City, MO.  Currently working on a huge home theater project and waiting on some klipsch R-820f's to get here.  But otherwise things are going according to schedule.  New tool box gets here on thursday and will start setting up shop again once some of the bigger house projects are done.  BUT, did manage to squeak out some time to complete the new desk using a solid core door and black pipe.  Kept the upper level, but wanted something a bit bigger since I was also adding an old 32" LED to use as a TV for movies, sports, anime, whatever.  Pivot arm so it can swing from the position it's in over to the far left wall and can put the feet up for 5 minutes of relaxing before the son or wife starts yelling for me lol  But at least it's all setup for now.  Still have much to do so will be in sporadically here and there to catch up.  Hopefully have the shop up and running soon.  Have some pretty creative ideas for new equipment, cases and may finally buy that CNC router to start cutting acrylic.

My desk is from 4x not solid oak doors (I wanted "fake walls" behind it).  Nice choice!  I definitely wish mine was solid now though lol, already punctured in one spot.  Too many people sleep on the idea of using doors.

I grew up just North of Topeka and used to love going over to KC. Power and Light district is pretty cool and they have a Micro Center down in Overland Park. Hopefully once you get unpacked the wife and kid will let you relax for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Solid core are SERIOUSLY heavy.  Great to use and will take the weight/abuse over time without starting to sag like some of the particle board based desks.  This one is 32" deep and 80" long.  But they make them as deep as 36".  Wanted to definitely build something to last so that it's not a rebuild a year or two from now.  A lot of work to build the frame, heights, leveling, punching holes....but a couple hours into it and it'll be a desk to last for years.  Worth it in the long run.

Oh ya, he's definitely a PIA at times.  Lately his favorite time is when I'm trying to get work done and he's insistent on his cuddle time.  After about 3 times of putting him down (and cleaning the cat hair out of my face, he gets the hint and curls up on my lap instead.  If I happen to get up for any reason, apparently the seat is forfeit.  We've been doing some exploring in the city, of course stopped at Grinders for lunch.  Checked out the art district a bit, but other than that, it's mostly been exploring around the northern area.  We're off of North Oak, and my son is in school at Fox Hills, so that's the stomping grounds now.  Have to admit it's far better being back in 4 seasons and a friendly atmosphere.  The south was just too damn hot/humid and the people were apparently miserable/angry at anybody from the outside...let alone a yankee.  I've made more potential friends in the 2 weeks here, than I had in 5 years in the south.  Interesting going to the DMV though...found out about the personal property tax and just about had a heart attack lol  Was NOT expecting something like that.  But fortunately we're exempt this year and the next due to our move date.  Big bonus and definitely dodged an expensive bullet.  Figured there is also quite a bit more to do here as well.  Wife has already snagged some royals tickets and took the bike out to explore weston and some of the countryside.  Never knew this area had such a huge population of irish...but it's a big bonus.  Can actually wear the clan's kilt without having to punch somebody in the face for calling it a "skirt".

Sounds like you're off to a good start out there which is good to hear. When I left Kansas I moved to Georgia for a couple years. Spending less at the DMV was about the only good part lol.

Well, the DMV here moves quick...but you spend A LOT of time running around.  We had a good six hours into getting new licenses/plates.  By the time we did the ID/OD, go to the assessment office (twice).  Once for the assessment, second for the waiver.  Which btw about gave me a heart attack.  I did not know that missouri has a personal property tax on vehicles.  So I'll be getting hit next year on car, truck and bike to the tune of about 3k.  On the upside, being classified as a 100% disabled vet I get some money off of that.  PLUS they throw in a free ($15) personalized plate lol  Cheapest state I've EVER lived in for personalized plates...and it's free.  But I'll take what I can get.

Welcome to Dixie brother.  Here in NC 100% disabled gets you a portion of tax off your primary residence. I am sure MO has something to that effect. Iv'e also got DV plates.

At least you don't get hit with all that until next year so you can budget for it accordingly.

I've lived in 4 different states within the past decade and the process has been a bit different each time. Usually a fair bit of running around. When I moved to the Cincinnati area my coworkers told me I should register my cars in Ohio since they don't have vehicle property tax. If I had a new $80k truck I'd have borrowed one of their addresses. Since I drive older cars that are relatively worthless in the DMV's eyes, I just used my actual address which is right across the river in Kentucky.
