bant for oops, this isn't the ban thread.

I'd like to see a section for technically inclined old people, one that only allows entry to those who are at least 65 years of age.

That way my peers could ask me things like who's that guy in the spoon, and why is he upside down?

So you want a room where you would be the only participant, talking to yourself?

Naw, I already got one of those that gets a lot of regular use. 🤪

I just wanted the infighting to stop (seems like it worked, at least temporarily) 👍

The first thing that comes to mind is the following:

I use the discover page as my home page, but if a topic is very active it fills the whole page with just that single topic.
Maybe it would be nice to have an option to show only the latest activity on that topic or something.
Here is an example:

image.thumb.png.83023102d36d7c22f9fb09af9de37207.png

More members is always better and I'll never like mobile browsing (so that's impossible to fix 🙂 )

Have you tried using the Create New Stream ? Enables you to be a little more particular about how the stream is managed however I am unsure that the scope of this feature would filter out multiple updates on the same topic. In reality that is why the "Latest" section in on the homepage.

Further from my last message, I have put together a new layout for the "Latest" section which I will soon put to my developer.  What do you guys think ?

FYI, I have also expanded the latest section to display 10 topics by default based on other feedback given.

Looks good but I wonder how it will scale on mobile. Putting the thread title and the "started by" on the same line could cause issues.

On mobile interface, it's likely the "Started By" would be set to the second line.

My dev is available from the new year, so I will be able to get this in soon for works which will mark off at least one 2022 improvement already haha. Thanks for the feedback guys !

100% agree. One of the things I really liked on OCN back in the day was just the volume of quality postings and threads each and every day that one could engage with.

Overall, I think EHW is great, just needs more activity.

Agreed. The light activity here is a bit of a downer. On the flip side, it's all quality activity. I've been reading for 20 minutes without coming across a bad post. Need to up the quantity but retain the quality.

There in lies the challenge for any forum. Back in the day it was much easier to retain a good ratio with quantity:quality

However as the internet is now far more accessible these days than it was before, as well as Tech/PC's becoming a larger part of the younger audience, I tend to find that there is an increasing chance that you will have less mature users. Now that in itself is not an issue necessarily, however you can sometimes see an uptick in less quality posts as a result. As always I prefer to go the route of education should something go wrong. It is better to build people than to ban them. wherever possible.

Ding ding ding! This is super important. I was a wee little lad (sort of) when I joined OCN back in 2013 and I'm sure I made plenty of dumb posts, but I learned an obscene amount about PCs and more during just my first year there. The teaching vs banning thing is huge.

Just as an update, we have the revised latest section completed with the reviews replacing the podcasts and slimming it a little. When expanded each section is not inline with each other at the moment BUT this will change overtime. This is caused by overly long thread titles, so I have limited thread titles by 10 characters to avoid this issue moving forward.

Looks good to me; you can also read the full title of a post by hovering your cursor over the link to the post (title attributes are being added to the links in each column). An example of that follows:

Another tweak I thought of today, and this may be better suited for another thread: reformatting the rig listings under posts to show more than 8 parts in less space. Just could be a little more space efficient, but that's a pretty nitpicky thing.
