How many of us are exOCNers? Just wondering because there were a fair lot of us before the V-Bulletin migration and the sell-off of OCN.

History lesson time lol.

The initial V-bulletin migration honestly wasn't what damaged OCN. I mean sure, as with any change there was frustration and some losses. Huddler (the platform OCN moved to) was actually decent and the owners were community focused and were working with myself and the other management to bring back any lost functionality and fix bugs. They were actually exceptionally quick on fixing things and making adjustments. I cannot really find much fault with them. We were making some great progress.

Then came our troubles.

Huddler became EOL as a platform. It was a proprietary software that was no longer going to maintained. Bugger ! Huddler was then purchased and we became part of the Wikia group. This didn't mean a platform change....but we did see stagnation as dev work etc had come to a standstill.

Ironically it was only a short time after that Wikia re-shuffled their company portfolio and decided that tech forums such as ourselves were no longer a good fit....Sigh.

Here comes ANOTHER move.

OCN was the sold to Verticalscope which was running its portfolio on...get this, the same super old version of V-bulletin we initially migrated away from. This meant OCN was migrated back to V-bulletin, but with that meant we lost EVERYTHING. All the features we had managed to get back thus far with Huddler...poof gone.

This is were you would have started to see the mass exodus of users and slow down on OCN. To make matters worse, we couldn't get much work done to restore OCN after the move to Verticalscope as they were already planning to mass move their entire portfolio to a custom fork of Xenforo.

So we stagnated for ages, with nothing unique that made OCN what it was, that was the REAL damage. We eventually migrated to Xenforo which is the OCN of today. The rest you can figure out (I cannot go into details)

Yeah this makes sense. The initial migrations while annoying were fine. It was when OCN moved to Verticalscope ownership that I really noticed the drop.

That's bannable over there these days?  WOW!  Back when I was a mod over there, I'd just have laughed my butt off at your comment, sent you a PM saying, "Hey, I agree with you, but you probably shouldn't say that publicly LOL", and we'd have been on our way.  Where's the leniency at?  Where's the care for the members that I was told to have when I signed up as staff?  E!!!!????  You have some 'splainin to do! :lachen: (j/k, I know that wasn't your area).

On topic of bans, E can you ban me off OCN?  I've forgotten my password now, and I'm never going to be bothered to submit for a new one.  It's too reddit over there. 🙃

I think I got warned for calling people morons or stupid as well. I think it was back in the OCN migration thread which was a DUMPSTER fire initially after the VerticalScope acquisition.

ROTFL, when Vertical Scope took over and they had all the trouble at first they had an issue with passwords not being saved,I finally got PO'd and looked up a list of most commonly used passwords and the 1 I used was actually taken and saved. 🙄 It's ALMOST at the spaceballs luggage combo level. 🤣

I haven't looked back since I started posting here. The mention of Reddit reminded me of a time probably a couple of years ago post-acquisition and pre-migration when I replied to a news post, some moron who had all the traits of a Reddit troll from r/wallstreetbets flamed me via PM for what I said in the news post thread, and then I reported his PM.

All I remember thinking was that little chickenshit clearly has no idea how to communicate like a functioning adult since he was beefing with everyone in the thread. I think I made one more post in the thread calling out that clown and left it at that.

If I cared, I'd go back to OCN to look up the details again, but I don't. That site is dead to me especially when the spirit of the community found a new home (here). OCN is just following the typical lifecycle and member exodus of many VS-acquired forums.

I still check out OCN from time to time and not being able to comment has really helped me realized why I got banned. The amount of BS and people talking like experts but sprouting total nonsense is too much for me not to call it out. I just don't have the vocabulary to not resort to name calling.

I really feel like an old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn.

I'm reading a thread on there atm and can't help but yell at my screen. 🤬
