(RANT) I think now signifies a reason we can all start to avoid ebay like the plague.

As i was going through my email this morning, i noticed one from ebay. now this isnt out of the ordinary when its bid notifications or something but it wasn't. it was something MUCH worse.

as of july 1st 2022 the following will be implemented on ebay according to thier email:

Canadian and American sellers selling items to others  will pay thier usual fees to ebay.

Canadian and American BUYERS will pay all PROVINCIAL/STATE/GOVERMENT SALES TAX ON PURCHASED ITEMS. ontop of the fee ebay already collects from the seller.

i find it absolutely obsurd that ebay cant take that hit out of thier own cut of the profit margins they get from people selling.

buy what you need off ebay now folks, we have a month to gather anything we may need before the taxing is enforced.

I don't get it. You're mad at ebay because they are going to charge sales tax?

Most eBay sales are already taxed. I don't get why this would be an issue. Lot of states allowed for tax free online sales in the past but have cracked down on it over the years as more and more sales have shifted to online. Ebay is probably just trying to make it clear to buyers that they should expect to pay sales tax. Seems pretty normal.

Ebay fees to the seller are only 10%. Sales tax is usually 8%. You want them to take the 8% out of the 10% they charge for service fees and be left with 2%? Seems pretty unreasonable.

I have always been charged sales tax when buying on ebay. Like Ultramega said, it's not new. Have you been buying without sales tax so far Kyle?

depended where I bought from, if the person lived in a state with slack enforcement of tax rule, ebay let it slide,if not I was charged. Now they seem to be letting everyone know the "free ride" is over. It's been that way on amazon, and newegg, so no surprise that ebay finally caved.

Never paid tax on both ebay and aliexpress.

Only amazon charge tax from usa.

Order are supposed to be taxed at the importation center if the seller did not charge you for them already. And those center seem to be overloaded in canada. Got order of 500$ with 0$ tax 😆

I don't really buy off eBay very often, but it really is more that states are enforcing sales tax on online sales now vs anything else really. Here in CO, they started enforcing that in 2018 where as prior to that year all online sales were not taxed.

This isn't really eBay's fault, or on them to absorb. One could make the argument that if you are buying something used that its already been taxed and this is a double-dip. Sadly that is true of many types of taxes.

I might be wrong but I don't think used stuff is taxed.

Nvm, used items are taxed. Kinda lame but probably not ebays fault.

I've been paying sales tax on ebay purchases for a while now mate.  Honk honk, absolutely ridiculous to be paying taxes on goods that have already been taxed at LEAST twice that we know of (seller has to pay tax on sales, and the original purchaser paid sales tax).  Makes me incredibly pissed how far into our pockets the tax man is trying to reach now. -_-

There aren't many sites left that don't charge sales tax.

American Raspberry Pi Shop. One stop shop for all your Pi needs. Raspberry Pi add-ons, HATs, accessories, Starter Kit, Media Center...

Pishop doesn't charge sales tax, so that's where I buy my Pi's.  It's in Delaware.  Delaware has no sales tax so I guess that's why they don't collect any.

And if anyone does any 3D Printing

Exotic and premium filaments. High end 3D printers. Quality upgrades and parts for all of your 3D printing needs.

Printed Solid, another Delaware company doesn't charge sales tax.
