How cold outside/Room Temp before condensation?

bonami2

Recommended Posts

Not exactly a Exotic Cooling question but kinda extreme!

Am looking to see how cold i can run my laptop and desktop safely.

Lowest i got my bedroom once was 8 Celsius and i did not have any issue.

Looking to reach 4-5c by maybe going outdoor instead!

Open the window and bench away my friend. 馃憤

It has to do with being below AMBIENT temperature and condensation amount in the air.聽 If your ambient temp is 8C, and your CPU / GPU is say 10C (idle), that's fine.聽 You can drop down to 0C ambient, or below 0 even, and still be fine.

Condensation starts happening when you use ice buckets on radiators, dry ice, LN2, phase change, TEC, etc.聽 And that's because you're making the component colder than the air around it.聽 Think about it like when you pull a tub of ice cream out of the freezer.聽 Inside the freezer (most of the time anyway), things are fine.聽 Once you bring that tub outside of the freezer, you start getting little water droplets falling off the tub onto the counter tops.聽 That's because the ice cream bucket is colder than ambient temperature.

Yea as pio said, condensation only happens when an object is much colder than the air around it. That would pretty much never happen with a computer, except LN2 extreme OCing and such.聽

staying above ambient keeps a safety margin but you聽can go lower without condensation. you just need to stay above the dewpoint.

Yeah see I misunderstood you when you asked in Discord the other day. I had thought you were trying a chiller or LN2 or something. Yeah make your room as cold as you want, you won't have any condensation issues as you are not using below ambient cooling.
