Cardiac cath tomorrow if all fluid is out of my lungs--they've been making me pee like a thoroughbred when I'm probably really little more than a mustang sally.

Rhetorically speaking, that is 😁

Not the last time I was in the ER, but another time, they sure liked hooking me up to the IV's then making it difficult to access a nearby bathroom. 🤣

Yeah, been using the "jug" myself, on strict ins and outs because of the fluid buildup in my lungs. Anyway, they did do the cath this morning (sans sedation). The doc in charge  of  camera head contols also managed Alexa music choices and started with Going up to the spirit in the sky, followed in turn by the Doors The End, LA Woman, a few others I don't recall, and Screaming Jay Hawkins Constipation Blues. Alas, Alexa couldn't find D.O.A. by Bloodrock, nor They All Died.

Should be out of here in a couple of days (still have fluid in my lungs): and no interventions were required in my heart. More to come...

lol, I had the opposite situation with my mesh surgery.

#1 Nothing to eat or drink after Midnight.

#2 Surgery scheduled for 8:30 a.m. so got up at 7:15a.m., went bathroom, showered, got dressed and was at hospital by 8:10 a.m.

#3 Finally went to surgery between 9:30-10:00 a.m.

#4 11:00 a.m I'm asking when can I go home and I'm informed "Not until you pass fluids so the doctor knows everything's ok" SERIOUSLY? What am I supposed to pass?

#5 I explain this to the nurses, they give me multiple little containers of juice I chug, then try a catheter on me but the girl is holding the bag & tube ABOVE me so air goes in my bladder.

#6 I finally pee a mix of liquid bubbles and am allowed to leave. For 2 more weeks I keep passing bubbles until all the air works out of my bladder.

🙄

The joys of same day surgery... 🤣

Something IV-related actually happened to me last month...per earlier comment, I had a back operation, and in prep for that I drove up three days earlier for their lab to take blood. The lab is across the hall from the surgery area on the same floor - and both up an a mezzanine with open view to the main entrance / check-in area. As I was already hooked up to the IV, they realized that they couldn't find my blood test (from across the hallway, three days earlier...). So I had to '''march'' down to the lab again while already dressed in that weird gown (open back) along said mezzanine with the IV on a stand with wheels trucking along. To top it all off, this time, the nurse taking the blood was an absolute beginner, making multiple attempts - painful blue-black blotch on my arm for two weeks, unlike the first time in that lab.

I have hemochromatosis (a disorder in which extra iron builds up in the body to harmful levels) and it's treated by doing phlebotomys to draw off blood and let new blood be made to lower the lvl of total iron in it. It got where the hospitals would use me to train the newbie's how to stick because the veins get scarred from all the punctures and are harder to hit. Now some regular lab nurses have trouble, and 1 tech wanted to set me up with a port. I was like NO! I get these 2-3 times a year! not a week! lol. Either get a tech who can stick,or I'll find a place that can. Now my doctor has me going back to the Cancer treatment lab here where they do chemo and they have no problem. The girl hit's it first time pretty much every time. When there IS a problem, it's usually when I've drank coffee that morning or haven't drank fluids that morning.🙂

Yikes, yeah some of them really do not know how to properly take blood. Do you notice how many of them forget to also dry off the alcohol they swab you with before sticking you? There's a reason it stings.

Unfortunately there is a shortage of people with good venipuncture skills. Stinging, yes. They should not wipe away the alcohol after swabbing, but allow for air dry. Wiping it clean with another gauze can actually re-introduce bacteria, especially when under clean, not sterile conditions.

So I had the opportunity to be discharged today from the hospital, but they needed approval from the VA for the O2 I need while sleeping; they tell me though that the VA is typically slow in responding (especially on Veterans' Day, eh?). So I drew a pic of a middle finger with an arrow pointing to "VA," accompanied by "Thank You For Your Service." 🤪

My Brother was still living in MA back when this happened,it's why I'm glad he went to live with my niece now.

Timothy White, who had recently been homeless, started living at the privately operated, VA-owned building in January 2020.

Yeah. Over the years and depending on the facility/location, the VA certainly had its share of serious problems; but the same sorts of things (if not worse) have happened in non-VA hospitals as well. Once can only hope that if they do have to go into the hospital, they're properly taken care of (which isn't necessarily always the case, VA or not).

Anyway, I'm home now. I would like to thank everyone who kept me in mind while I was in the hospital, you guys helped me grin and bear it during all the finger prodding, poking , and puncturing; and a special thanks to @Avacadofor the extra mile he went along the way 🙂
