Sale ends on March 21

A bunch of classic EA games just got added to Steam. I literally just bought Sim City 3K on GoG...

No thanks.  Can't play a lot of retro games on Windows 10 anyway, and Steam only works on Windows 10 and newer.  I'll stick to GoG copies.  You guys are more than welcome to be guinea pigs though.

If it's being listed on Steam today, it supports Windows 10. I understand the sentiment but there's no guinea pig. Its just a trade off storefront vs. drm free version.

Thought I'd share one of my biggest treasures, Detana!! Twinbee for PC Engine (aka Turbografx 16) it is a vertical shoot em up but aka "cute em up" as it's very lighthearted and cutesy in style. There's a 9 lives code too and my fiancee and I have cleared it on the PC Engine Core Grafx a couple times. 🙂

Still has the plastic covering it came with from the store.

There's one like mine. About $115.

I ordered a Raspberry Pi composite cable that plugs into the headphone jack, for the purpose of hooking it up to my CRT tv for arcade games (because they look terrible on a 77" OLED).

It took some manual editing of config files. note to anyone doing this: use an adapter and plug in your SD card to your PC and edit /boot/config.txt. I'm using retropie, and going to the command line with a keyboard on the actual Pi, even with "sudo su" the boot drive doesn't appear to be mounted. It took a while of banging my head against the wall with the CLI on the pi before editing it in my pc made it work.

Anyway, in addition to my consoles we can now do TMNT, X-Men, Windjammers (serious business that game) as well as Cave and Raizing/Eighting games like e.s.p.rade, Dodonpachi Daioujou, Ketsui, Espgaluda, Armed Police Batrider, Battle Garegga and more.

Video quality is not the best and kind of blurry, but it works and the cable was only $8.

Hey @UltraMegacan you please post a link for me to the controller thing you have for Smartphone gaming? I'm thinking of getting one for my brother for his birthday.

Also, considering I know virtually nothing about emulation on Smartphones, what's the best PSX emu and best SNES emu? Hopefully ones that are free and adless.

Thanks buddy.

Retroarch on Android is a pretty great starting point, it acts as kind of a mini front-end and manages a bunch of "Cores" for each system and has multiple options for each system.

It has a slightly weird layout and config so definitely might require some guides, but it does a lot of the config, video, controls and all that stuff for you.

Emulation Station Desktop Edition is also working on an Android Front-end that can interface with Retroarch that I'm playing with right now and has made managing all my games much easier with full controller support.

I am very familiar with retroarch as well as EmulationStation as they are both on my custom retropie. Did not know they were available for Android. Thanks.

My brother said he should finally have his room at the house he shares with other people. Currently he's in a small space, a very small room and has no room for his stuff, consoles, or PC which is all in storage.

As opposed to the Razer Kishi, he asked for a retropie and I can just write my backup of mine to an SD card for him. He also already has a Rock Candy wired Xbox 360 controller he can use with it. So that's what I am going to do instead.

For those following the community efforts to get more N64 ports on PC, there has been a big update to get games running better, with more features, with a fraction of the effort of the decompilation efforts.

neat. Now they just need to do that for PS1/PS2 games 🙃

I never really got hooked on the N64. I got a hand-me-down one after my older cousins got bored with theirs, but by then I had a PS2 and I was starting to get into PCs so I rarely played it.

Banjo Kazooie was dope tho

There are a lot of titles that will be worth checking out on PC as these projects go into high gear. Banjoe Kazooie is dope but so is Tooie 😛

Perfect Dark is one my all time favourites and it never made it's way to PC. If they can get that + Goldeneye going with split screen or LAN... that will be a great time. Lots of other games to check out. Mario Party (1-3), Paper Mario... WWF No Mercy XD

How are they porting N64 games to PC? Did the source code for all the games leak? Nintendo and its lawyers are probably going to have a field day with this.

Lawyers won’t be able to touch Decompilation. Essentially it’s not the same source code. Not sure how it works with recompilation.

There are a few good Ars Technia article on it from a few years back. I believe they mention it’s safe but I haven’t read them recently.

ARSTECHNICA.COM

Decompilation project adds mouse-and-keyboard controls, upscaled graphics and more.

ARSTECHNICA.COM

Unspooled C code could eventually lead to PC ports, new mods, and more.

not for that, sure, but with Nintendo being Nintendo they could come at it from a difference angle.

ie, you're still using their intellectual property (characters, music, storylines...) without permission and it could be (weakly) argued that it cuts into their profits by existing.

I believe that’s only applicable for the distribution of the ROMs.

Per the article:

As with previous N64 decompilation projects like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time, the reverse-engineered PC code doesn’t include any copyrighted image visual or audio files. Players will have to provide their own valid ROM file containing those assets for the port to work.”

@speed_demonyou've been added.

The SNES is my favorite console of all time because it has all the RPGs I had growing up like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Lufia, and FF.

What games do you have for it, and what games did you play on it back in the day that you wish you had?

Also, the modded DSi thing. What games are you playing when you play the DSi? I have a 3DS and the ability to play DS games too, I usually stick to RPGs, the DS has a lot of good ones. I would highly recommend checking out a game for DS called Soma Bringer, it has an English translation patch so make sure you get a version with the patch applied. It is basically Diablo for the DS, and was made by Monolith Soft who now makes the Xenoblade series for Switch.
