HWBOT Widget

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

It is my intention to create a HWBOT Stats widget.

Before I look into this, I wanted to see if anyone knew how to scrape the stats data from HWBOT, or another source to make this happen.

Thanks,

E

Now that the F@H Widget is now underway, my next task is looking into HWBOT.

So far as a HWBOT stats widget goes, what summary information would you guys like to see ?

I would say 2,5,6 and 8. Not sure I understand how the rest work and how relevant they are for a summary style widget.

I'll say that ANY widget is better than NO widget. Whatever you decide, I am fine with. Everything I listed is a measure of accomplishment and HWbot prowess. Knowing which league a person is in indicates both the length of time they have been a member of HWbot and what the highest level of cooling they use is.

Gold: 58 + 127 + 96 + 7 + 75 + 22 + 19+ 3 + 1 = 408, not 357

Silver: 25 + 43 + 63 + 19 + 26 + 10 + 7 + 1 = 194, not 179

Bronze: 28 + 19 + 29 + 15 + 19 + 7 + 3 + 4 + 2 = 126, not 117

Medal: 30 + 58 + 32 + 14 + 31 + 13 + 12 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 195, not 184

I barely understand HWBOT points beyond the basics though, I just submit scores ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Personally I think that the follwing numbers are the most relevant: 4 - 3 - 6 (but season points) - 1 - 7
4. Season ranking is what one works for with current hardware he owns, sort of shows the activity from that year.
3. Career ranking is a little less relevant, though it's a more long therm picture of what one has done.
6. Season points speaks for itself, the number means more to active users than outsiders though.
1. League is pretty important, if someone is fifth in the extreme league it's a way bigger acomplishment than being first in the enthusiast league.
7. And medals is kinda fun to show off with, though besides global medals it doesn't really matter that much to me.

Thanks for the explanation bud.

The leagues and Season achievements, are these values based on the Team, or the individual contributor?

Essentially the widget is only going to show overall Team stats, not individual user stats. So I want to make sure that things like League's and Season stats are overall Team achievements.

Hopefully that makes some sort of sense ...its 5am lol.

Aside from the Team Cup, there are no seasonal achievements/rankings for teams, only overall standings worldwide and nationally (Default UK). I am ok with a widget being team based, but that seriously downplays the effect some team members have on the HWbot community as a whole. @Bastiaan_NL for example is leading his league and represents us, this is a HUGE achievement that otherwise would be un-noticed if we were to only poll statics from the team page shown below.

image.png.a49db6597cc099b8584d5eafbc953947.png

Though this has no bearing on current members, it can have a drastic impact on potential new members wanting to submit benchmarks for EHW if they glance at the widget on the homepage when visiting. People may not want to join the 76th best HWbot team in the world, but they may want to join a team that has the #1 Enthusiast and #1 Novice (Not anymore, but was for a time) overclockers in the world.

I hear you bud.

Like how we will showcase a member on the Folding@Home Widget, For the member who outputs the most points over 3 days, I would love to do the same for a HWBOT widget.

However, my issue is how do I scrape that data. How does one quantify via data scraping who is "The number one EHW HWBOT contributor"

Can I quantify that criteria by adding up the total of an HWBOT contributors points and displaying the username on the widget ? Or does it not work via points and has to be some other form of lookup ?

I just have to understand how we would develop a widget with respects to what it would lookup to establish who is the number one contributor, otherwise we would have to stick to team only stats.

As far as the scraping of data, 🤷‍♂️. I do however see your dilemma quantifying points. I suppose the best indicator would be displaying whomever had the most career points, much like listing @firedfly and his 12 billion points for F@H. The question the team has to answer is do we want to see who has done the most work since starting their benching career or which member is crushing it RIGHT now? Again, I am fine either way. If we are to mirror the F@H widget's "Three day champion", then it would seem we should poll seasonal points, not career points.

I would like to see how everyone else feels about the matter.

Seasonal points may be the way to go. Happy to hear other opinions on this before putting together dev plan and hitting the trigger, might as well get it right 🙂

  • 2 weeks later...

So after conversation with the powers that be at HWBOT, the no longer maintain their API. So that route is a no go, however there is a way to scrape what is required via HTML directly from the site, but it is more complicated that the API route, so I have @A Zayedtaking a look into it to see what is possible.

Thanks guys,
